Jesus Returns.

jmzero says...

I've heard all sorts of different interpretations and people trying to "translate out" their own beliefs in Matthew 19:24, but I just can't see it in any other way than: "If you have it, give it all away. You can't take it with you and we certainly aren't taking it into account when you get here."

I'm not sure what other interpretations you're referring to... but there's a very credible interpretation wherein the "eye of a needle" is one of the small, short gates into the city - mostly intended for people. In order for a camel carrying goods to enter in by this kind of gate, they'd have to kind of kneel and shuffle. Thus rich people have to either unload their goods, or be very penitent to get in (and the more goods they're importing into heaven, the lower they have to prostrate themselves).

Makes sense, would have made sense to people at the time, and otherwise the choice of camels and "eyes of needles" seems pretty arbitrary/nonsensical.

Maybe he's a construct as well. Just because we hear keystrokes and a bit of surprise in his voice doesn't mean he's human.

as an emotional story, it's pretty good.

Funny, i was thinking the exact opposite. As a tech demo it's showcasing some very impressive facial animation. As a short story, it was poor. Cliched, convenient and rushed.
"You're defective, I have no choice but to disassemble you."
"Pretty please with sugar on top?"
"Oh, alright."
His reaction to her being sentient is as if this sort of thing happens a lot, not "Oh my god, how is this possible? Maybe we should study this" astonishment. If it does happen a lot, why let her free this one time? We don't get any feeling from him as this being the straw that broke the camel's back (could just be bad acting/direction on the male character's part). It's just "Oh, you're sentient. Ok, just this once I'll let it slide... Wow, what a weird occurrence. Ooo, it's lunch time!"

A respectable position, only because you aren't against renewable energy. However, I do think it's anthropogenic, and I do think we are in for a hell of an interesting next 10-20 years (as far as who was right who was wrong goes). The next century is when we'll really see the effects of delaying action for 20-30 years...

I again agree with you for yet again entirely different reasons. I see the next 20-30 years being terribly interesting not for the indirect consequences of human activity, but from the direct threats of humans against one another. We're too many generations away from the last major war and we are overdue for reminding ourselves again first hand how and why to avoid that dread mistake. Not to beat a dead horse, but massive international pressure to gcut back the global economy to fight CO2 emissions is just one more straw on that camel's back.

Mitt Romney caught with millions stashed in offshore banks

shinyblurry says...

Did you even read what I said? I said people should use their wealth to do the Lords work and help the poor. God gives people material blessings to do those things, but many are enslaved to their love of money and don't do them. I know exactly what the word says about money, and my statement matches it precisely. I am not a republican nor am I a gung-ho capitalist. The early church was very socialist, in that the members all sold what they had and shared the proceeds with eachother as they needed. I support that, but I also recognize that in a fallen world, without the hand of God directly involved, socialism can very easily become totalitarian.

That isn't an indictment against money, it is an indictment against greed. God doesn't care if you have money, but He does care what you use it for. He made Solomon the richest person on the planet. I think those who are rich should be using their money for the Lords work and giving heartily to the poor, so I do not support the aquisition of wealth for wealths sake. I think that is sinful. However, that is their choice, and it is not up to me, but it is between them and God.

Typical christian, thinks he knows what his god wants but ignores what he says... Just think about how much good works those stashed millions could be doing for the poor. Dare I say it, the 'God' conservatives put so much stock in is a gasp socialist...

Titus 2:14
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
As a stranger and pilgrim in this fallen world, I take that as a compliment.

Hey Shiny, your god disagrees with you on Romney's wealth (and capitalism in general)
"Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.'"

TYT - Ron Paul's Worst Newsletters - Cenk Gives Verdict

ChaosEngine says...

My feeling on the matter is that under the presumption of innocence, we should give Paul the benefit of the doubt and attribute the publication of such idiocy to incompetence rather than malice on his part. Now, that's still not a great attribute for a presidential candidate ("Hello, Mr Putin? Hi, I just wanted to say that it wasn't me who sent you that letter declaring war, it was an aide. Hope that clears things up, sorry about the mishap"), but hey, we've all made mistakes, and fair enough Ron Paul's a busy man.

Unfortunately there's still a whole host of other damn good reasons not to vote for him and this is just the straw that broke the camels back.

I very much doubt he'll get the nomination anyway.
