Bowling Ball and Feather dropped in largest vacuum chamber

Magicpants says...

He didn't, at least not according to "Einstein: His Life and Universe." where he is reported to have said that his happiest thought was that Gravity and Acceleration are equivalent. It was a breakthrough for him to realize that a man in a falling elevator wouldn't feel the force of gravity, because they are the same thing.

ChaosEngine said:

Wait, I want to know what happens!

Why did Einstein say the ball and feather weren't accelerating toward earth?

Brittany Maynard - Death with Dignity

Actually you said

Cannabis cures cancer. To HELL with western medicine.

Then you posted a bunch of anecdotes from a hemp oil salesman.

Then you talked about Dr Marcia Angell; I presume that's the same Marica Angell that said
It is time for the scientific community to stop giving alternative medicine a free ride... There cannot be two kinds of medicine — conventional and alternative. There is only medicine that has been adequately tested and medicine that has not, medicine that works and medicine that may or may not work. Once a treatment has been tested rigorously, it no longer matters whether it was considered alternative at the outset. If it is found to be reasonably safe and effective, it will be accepted.

and finally a bunch of studies that show that cannabis may affect cancer.

None of which implies that "cannabis cures cancer" (again, your own words).

Cannabinoids certainly have some interesting properties that might well lead to some breakthroughs, but right now, NOTHING cures cancer. As you said, it gets cut, burnt or poisoned (all of which is preferable to dying), or it just goes into remission.

As for your general distain for "western medicine" aka medicine, you continue on with your fairy dust and good wishes. Me, I'll be over here with the scientific method and the single most successful endeavour in the history of humanity.

TONS of things cure cancer. All day, every day. Doctors have no clue what cancer is. All they can do is cut, burn, or poison and cross their fingers.

I didn't say Cannabis was THE cure. It is A cure used by thousands with amazing efficacy. Everyone is different.

And to expend on it for a bit, in order for them to use the iconic Tiger, a scenario with plenty of entrenched infantry is much more appropriate than any mobility-based warfare. Great tool to force a breakthrough, even greater tool to prevent a breakthrough.

For instance, the handful of combat ready Tigers deployed with the 502nd during the battles around Lake Ladoga in '43 were used almost exlusively in two roles: either to strengthen entrenched friendly infantry against attacking armor or to throw Soviet infantry out of trenches seized in previous assaults.

The entire area of operations around Leningrad, including the supply lines around Lake Ladoga, was one big trench warfare, with massive use of artillery. Armoured spearheads only enabled the following infantry to advance from one line of trenches to the next. Extensive breakthroughs and large scale encirclements were only possible in the steppes further south. The marshes and dense forests up north reduced everything to a meat grinder.

While reading a rather depressing series of articles about the state of affairs in pretty much the entirety of Europe regarding un(der)employment, I felt an urge to look up an old quote by Bucky Fuller I had read some 15 years ago:

We must do away with the absolutely specious notion that everybody has to earn a living. It is a fact today that one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest. The youth of today are absolutely right in recognizing this nonsense of earning a living.

We keep inventing jobs because of this false idea that everybody has to be employed at some kind of drudgery because, according to Malthusian-Darwinian theory, he must justify his right to exist. So we have inspectors of inspectors and people making instruments for inspectors to inspect inspectors.

The true business of people should be to go back to school and think about whatever it was they were thinking about before somebody came along and told them they had to earn a living.

DMT Enigma

shagen454 says...

Yeah, I mean I've done it all sorts of different ways except IV'ing. I refuse to IV anything unless under medical supervision

Honestly, I think nasally just is not going to be beneficial which exactly like you said is the result of pinwheels & confusion. Plus, a burning nose.

Orally, you are going to want to make sure you are using a MAOI that you are comfortable with already so that the MAOI vs. DMT effect is somewhat understood.
Then obviously, dosage is everything. If you don't know how much you did, you may have only had a very sub experience. Which is when it seems like LSD... that is when you know you just need more because you are no where close yet.

These states I would say aren't really even "sub-breakthroughs" and approach a level similar to other psychedelics. I would NEVER recommend a breakthrough dose because it is not "confusing" as to what is going on. It's wildly real when you are "there".

How much did you smoke? And what kind of tool did you smoke it out of? There is definitely a "mystical" state in there you just have to do enough. I was apprehensive as well until I stopped saying it was bullshit and did it myself whilst taking heed to all of the information I had gathered over the years on the topic. I am flabbergasted to this day and anyone else who has "received the message" knows what I am talking about.

At the time, the fashion amongst people using it was smoking, nasal or sublingual. I suspect these people that used it may have had a different experience with better preparation, but exploding pinwheels and confusion was typical.

Munk Debate on State Surveillance

chingalera says...

Freedoms are what we say they are and what we are willing to claim for ourselves. Laws are for morons and apes...domesticated primates.

Here's one I heard second-hand about the other day as reported early today by:
http://austriantribune.com/informationen/143636-nsa-allegedly-planted-beacons-servers-routers-and-other-network-gear-prior

Intercepting orders for servers, taking them to the Grinch-warehouse and outfitting them with virtually undetectable routing hardware, restoring the packaging material as it was and then sending them on to their 'customers.'

As the general here alludes to in his opener, the shit Snowden blew his whistle about resides in iceberg tips-If they reveal anything regarding the technology in place to keep track of ALL of humanity, military capabilities, breakthroughs in science or medicine etc., chances are good once the information gets to the masses the shits been around for quite some time.

What you think you know about their capabilities and the information hidden from the masses is old fucking news. The only meaningful question left is who are, "THEY?"

Well, when you put it that way...
They should have a debate about, what are "our freedoms" anyway?

Colonel Sanders Explains Our Dire Overpopulation Problem

gorillaman says...

@RedSky

I'd like to know how you expect to quintuple the availability of every vital resource in the next 50-100 years while somehow reducing the environmental impact of that necessary increase to what you acknowledge needs to be less than the present level. This is supernatural thinking. Corporations don't pollute, incidentally, the fundamental structure of our global society pollutes; which would be no problem whatsoever if there were fewer of us.

It's fine if you'd prefer to just keep the majority of the world in mediaeval poverty, or alternatively impoverish everyone equally; colossally immoral, but by contrast actually physically possible.

Our success as an organism has been implicitly tied to energy availability for our entire history. The bubble of economic and technological advancement we've ridden since the industrial revolution is driven by unprecedented access to energy in the form of irreplaceable fossil fuels. It requires continual investment of energy to maintain. The practical exploitability of wind, solar, wave, geothermal and hydroelectric sources combined doesn't come close, not even close to the demand we'll place on them with population on the scale you're quite comfortable to allow. Fissile materials are limited and similarly irreplaceable; we've been steadily failing to develop fusion power for sixty years.

The innovation of new sources of energy is not guaranteed, unless you have some new breakthrough in physics you'd like to share? Efficiency gains are strictly limited.

If you think we'll have the ability to support billions of people on a sustainable basis at some time in the future, well great, LET'S WAIT UNTIL WE HAVE THAT ABILITY BEFORE WE BET EVERYTHING ON IT.

Amazon Prime Air Service - 30 minute Amazon Deliveries

aaronfr says...

In general, when it comes to new technology or scientific breakthroughs, anytime I hear that something will be ready in "just" 5 years, I know it is laughable. If we had actually achieved everything that was predicted to be ready in 5 years, the world would be radically different.

Secondly, this is very effective marketing, but in a subterfuge/propaganda sort of way. Everyone is talking about Amazon, its vision, its radical attempt to change the way things are delivered, etc. just in time for the holiday shopping season. What more could a brand want?

But what are we not talking about? Amazon's work conditions for and treatment of its seasonal workers (of which my aunt and uncle are two) and Amazon's business model being built upon a shell game of tax avoidance.

Amazon is waving some shiny new thing in your face that will never come to fruition so that you don't open your eyes to what they are really doing right now.

I really have to wonder if this isn't just marketing. The number of issues, logistic, financial and legal... makes it hard to see how this can be viable just yet. Course i know nothing about the tech so maybe it's better than i realized.
