Gary Chambers - Scars and Bars

newtboy says...

So…the Louisiana Democratic Party just changed their rules on the spot with a fake vote (ending with 80-40 with under 100 people present) specifically to deny Chambers the party nomination he had won in the primary and instead endorsed every candidate….in the name of “unity”.

Not sure why top Democrats work so hard to ensure they lose, but they do. Reminds me of the DNC changing and breaking their rules to endorse Hillary despite her being the worst possible candidate with so much baggage she needed an army of porters, the only person who could get Trump the votes he needed.

Sabotaging progressives shouldn’t be a feature of the Democratic Party.

Sen. Whitehouse Questions FBI on Kavanaugh Background

newtboy says...

Come on, people. I know it’s dry politics, but only 2 votes including my own!?

The FBI director admitting under oath that they did not investigate any accusations against Kavanaugh (and yet claimed publicly that they had for years while stonewalling congress), but instead of investigating tips like they claimed repeatedly they had done thoroughly, they in fact just forwarded them directly to the whitehouse and awaited instructions on who to talk to and exactly what to ask them should enrage every American. They are not supposed to just be a propaganda department for the whitehouse.

Another institution totally disgraced and now untrustworthy after being infiltrated by dishonest Trumpists willing to break every rule and law to gain power. Add them to the DOD, secret service, DOJ, etc. All untrustworthy now thanks to Trump’s deep state people.

Guaranteed the same went for unqualified Barrett and Gorsuch…no investigation or vetting at all and every accusation just forwarded to Trump and forgotten.

Not caring about this kind of thing is why the tiny minority of the far right controls so much of this country now. It’s why Republicans have held the presidency for 3/5 terms this millennium despite only getting the most votes once.

You need to care about the degradation and politicization of national institutions or this country is doomed.

I am a huge Alien / Predator fan.
I've seen all the movies and read all the books, even the comics (Did you know there was a Batman Vs Predator comic?)

BUT I won't watch this one. - It breaks every rule of what makes the originals what they are - Not even going to rant, just going to move on...

45 votes and counting...

The problem you have is that you cannot look any further than the last post you disagreed with. There are dozens of videos showing good police officers doing their job, ie. helping the community. Negative commentary goes hand in hand with cops abusing their power or breaking the rules because they think they are above the law.

If you believe cops can do no wrong, you're as fucking moronic as a person who believes cops can do no right. Fortunately, both groups are an absolute minority around here.

Ending Free Speech-Elizabeth Warren Silenced In Senate

newtboy says...

Rule 19 of the U.S. Senate states, “No Senator in debate shall, directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator.”

The rule goes on to state that if any Senator breaks the rules of the Senate, in the opinion of the Presiding Officer, they will be called to order and take their seat.

So it can only be abused by the majority party.

MilkmanDan said:

What exactly does "Rule 19" say?

@newtboy 's description:
"This means that now republicans have ended free speech in the senate, and any time they feel they have been insulted, they'll end the debate and silence the offenders. I find that treasonous, as it directly and horrendously effects how the senate works (or doesn't) and means the party in power can now enforce their un-American idea that they are the only one's allowed to speak."

I agree that it seems to have been used to stifle free speech in this instance. But it doesn't seem like it could be used that way "any time" -- only when the the content being read/spoken is a quote from previous senate sessions?

The reason that I think the full story is important is that the best way to put the kibosh on this would be to turn the tables and have Warren et al. use it on Republicans to demonstrate that it is a bullshit "rule". That sort of violates the whole "they go low, we go high" thing, but a disfunctional, ineffective legislature might be preferable to an actively evil/corrupt legislature. And more importantly, (ab)using the rule is likely the best way to get it removed ASAP so this shit can't happen again.

Good point he makes and it applies to much more than Hilary - today's "We didn't actually break any rules," is yesterday's "I was only obeying orders."

Why you shouldn’t drive slowly in the left lane

MilkmanDan says...

Being from Kansas, I was taught that this (right lane except to pass) was the law so I have always done it that way. As backwards as Brownbackistan can be, I guess we got that one thing right -- and it seemed to work, I rarely had any issues with having to weave around slow traffic in the left lane.

I did notice that it was a more common problem driving elsewhere in the country, but I didn't know that it isn't actually a legal requirement elsewhere.

Now, living in Thailand, I break the rule all the time (although it isn't a rule here, or at least it is *never* enforced if it is). The slow lane (left lane because they drive on the left over here) is the de-facto "motorbike lane", so 90% of car traffic stays in the right lane all the time. I drive faster than most locals, which ends up meaning that I stick in the fast lane all the time *except* when I want to pass a slowpoke by switching to the slow/motorbike lane.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz Resigns, Sanders Fans React

newtboy says...

That's why I said IF they go along with any stupid thing HE does....also....I was clearly talking about Republicans, who are much better at being united and playing follow the leader.

Because she hired Shultz as quid quo pro for clearly "cheating" (flagrantly being biased, contrary to the conditions of the job and repeated statements to the contrary) to steal the nomination for Clinton, she's corrupt. Beyond that, you've gone into ridiculousness with your basketball analogy. There aren't ethics rules in basketball, or a duty to serve your fans ethically, or a duty to be nice to your opponent, or a way to fight over a ruling that he fouled another player....and there's instant redress for a foul.
This is just one more instance, the latest in a never ending string, showing her contempt for the rules and laws, and showing that she rewards breaking the rules if done for her benefit. That's reason for disqualification in my eyes.
You are welcome to your opinion. I strongly disagree, and your insistence that she's the best candidate, contrary to all evidence and strong public opinion, is why Trump will win. Thanks a bunch.

We wouldn't know if Bush was worse than Clinton until after her presidency. I contend you can't have a whit of an idea how she would operate, as her positions change with the wind and she'll do whatever suits her on the day she makes a decision, not the right thing, not what she said she would do yesterday.

heropsycho said:

The Democratic Party having control of both the executive and legislative branches does not mean Congress will go along with whatever the president says. Do you remember Obamacare at all? Was Obamacare what Obama wanted? No. It was a center left compromise to keep Democrats in the fold to vote for it. The Democratic Party still has a significant number of moderates within it.

Do you honestly think Obama got whatever he wanted his first two years in office with control of the house and a supermajority in the Senate? Absolutely not.

In fact, because of filibusters and polarization of the electorate, you can't get much of anything done anymore without control of the house and a supermajority in the Senate.

And the Shultz thing is hilarious to me. Clinton hired a high up skilled Democratic Party political operative for her campaign, and that means she's corrupt? Because Schultz favored a candidate who has always been a strong party candidate over another candidate who only caucused with the Democrats, and wasn't actually a Democrat himself? Yeah, she shouldn't have done what she did. Dennis Rodman shouldn't have done what he did to Scottie Pippen in the playoffs, too, when he was with Detroit. And who thought Rodman should have been brought in to help the Bulls? Pippen. Clinton is trying to win an election. If that's the kind of thing you consider as proof of actual corruption, I don't know what to tell you.

I am not voting against Trump. I am voting for the most competent, experienced candidate who I think will do the best job out of this lot of candidates. She is the only candidate who is extremely qualified.

Is she perfect? Hell, no. She isn't particularly inspiring. She's not very good as a politician at persuading people to her side. She panders too much. Sometimes she plays political games too much, like with the email fiasco.

But you can do a lot worse than Clinton. You don't have to go back far to find an inept president.

Mesmerizly pretty girl explains what not to do in Japan

SDGundamX says...

She forgot to mention you don't tip here. Ever. If you ever want to have some fun at a restaurant, try leaving a tip on the table and then wait in the parking lot for the staff to come sprinting out to return your money.

Other things to watching out for--blowing your nose loudly. You shouldn't blow your nose at all, really, if you're trying to be Mr./Miss Manners but if you absolutely must do it, you should blow as quietly as possible. I have no idea why this is a thing, but they actually prefer you to sniffle incessantly as you try to keep the mucus from dripping out of your nose to using a goddamned tissue--despite the fact that you will be handed packs of tissues at nearly every train station by people trying to advertise their services/products.

Also, at the end of the day, pretty much none of these rules apply to foreigners visiting Japan for tourism purposes. Tourism is way up here these days and Japanese people--especially in the Tokyo area--kinda expect tourists to be clueless about everything. The stuff she's mentioning really only applies if you're thinking of a longer-term stay where you might make some connections and actually have to give a fuck what other people here think because you're seeing the same faces every day.

Then again, I break almost all of these rules. I've been here long enough to see Japanese people break these rules and understand the times when it is acceptable. Or when I can get away with it due to "gaijin privilege." Gaijin privilege = not being expected to conform to Japanese societal rules since I'm not Japanese--and would never be considered Japanese even if I were to get Japanese citizenship.

Because you are clearly confused.....

Don't make personal attacks here. You may be as insulting to any idea as you like, but not the poster. Do not say things like;
"I am speaking to someone who doesn't even know the language he is speaking"
"I cant help it if your general ignorance seeps into every pore of your conscious existence"
and "someone of such an argy-bargy disposition" (whatever the hell that means, it's clearly personally insulting).

Stick to the topics, not the posters. If you disagree with a poster, disagree, don't attack the poster personally.

Don't fear, I'm not making any move to ban you over this...I was warning you that what you are doing is not allowed here, and IF YOU CONTINUE, it will rise to the level of banning eventually. Banning is not a first step...explaining that you're breaking the rules, which have clearly defined consequences, is a first step, and the only one I've taken.

EDIT: And the users you want to talk to about this are dag and lucky760, they are the 'moderators', eric3579 is more of a facilitator
