Justin Bieber gets nailed

Retroboy says...

I understand he's building a giant playground and is in the market for a pet chimpanzee...

Really, though, he's easy to hate (even though the emotion is misguided if it's aimed exclusively at him and not his manipulators). He has a "my memoirs" book-biography being released next year, and he's not even old enough to drive a car.

I think he handled the incident very well.

Throbbin says...

This looks awesome.

After I watched this I leaned over to my bookshelf and handed Jesseofthenorth my copy of J.B. McLachlan - A Biography. For anyone who likes to read about unions and how they began, this is an excellent read. It chronicles the life of McLachlan in Nova Scotia and his attempts to start a union.

An Addition to Profiles (Talks Talk Post)

Hybrid says...

Why not have some sort of biography/history page for each user that not only has these graphs, but things like key events in their VS career, starting from the date they joined? Things like:

First sifted video
Each Top 15 video
Each #1 video
When they got an achievement badge.

Essentially all those things that siftbot puts on your profile, but in a more concise, bullet point list.

Prokofiev's Tocatta (Op. 11) played perfectly (super hard)

ROBBIE ROBERTSON-unbound (original video)

Aniatario says...

Saw'em at the Aboriginal Achievement Awards awhile back. Gave one hell of a concert, Tho it's a shame when you look at his history. If you check around, online, Robertson isn't exactly the most popular guy in town. He apparently "stole" all the rights to The Band's songs and then quit entirely to focus on a solo career. As far as I know he and Levon Helm don't talk anymore. They both came out with biographies, "Across The Great Divide" from what I've read (haven't finished it yet) is quite heavily biased towards Robbie Robertson, tho I'd expect Levon Helm's "Story Of The Band" tells a different tale.

Regardless, remarkable man.

i almost bought that as a real film trailer.
the only thing missing was megan fox ripping off her clothes to reveal a leather combat suit underneath and whipping out her machine gun.
was also waiting for the "produced and directed by jerry bruckheimer and michael bay".
how can a mother theresa biography NOT have explosions?
"she has come to defend the honor of christ"
and then like a hail of bullets.
well..thats how they should have done it........

You know there is such a thing as aquaculture or fish farming.

Tell that to the massive fishing fleets driving species to extinction...

Regardless, that does not make your statement "We don't farm and cultivate the sea, we just hunt and poach the fish from it." any more true.
I speculate that before we drive the fish to extinction the massive fishing fleets will become uneconomical due to lack of fish. They will stop and species hopefully recover. This could be expedited by strict resolutions

A species could easily become extinct just by bringing the numbers down to a certain point. And other species could still become extinct in the process causing chain reactions. It seems like a pretty dangerous speculation.

If you're really interested in the subject. I'd suggest reading: "Cod, a Biography of the Fish That Changed the World" by Mark Kurlansky. It's a fascinating book in it's own right and definitely covers the dangers involved with this subject.

Harpo Marx's Harp Music - A Night in Casablanca

harpom says...

I have a special place in my heart for Harpo, as you can see by my user name.
He has been my hero for the last 40 years. "Thanks Dad for getting me to watch all the old Marx Brother's movies with you". If you really want to find out how special he was, read his biography, "Harpo Speaks".

Congressman Alan Grayson laughs in Ben Bernanke's face

chilaxe says...

Intro to his official biography:

Our Congressman, Alan Grayson, grew up in the tenements in the Bronx. It was a hard life. He had to be a fighter to survive.

His parents were teachers. They made great sacrifices, to make sure that Alan received the best education.

Alan was a sick child. His mother took him to the hospital four times a week, for treatment. Without health coverage, he would not be alive today. He remembers that.

Alan rode the subway to school each day, and he worked hard. He was the valedictorian of his junior high school. By passing a test, he was admitted to an exclusive public high school. In high school, he achieved the highest test score among almost 50,000 students who took the test. Harvard College saw something in him, and admitted him.

For Alan, life at Harvard wasn’t easy. Alan cleaned toilets, and worked as a night watchman. Yet he earned a bachelor’s degree in only three years, with high honors, and he was Phi Beta Kappa. Alan graduated from Harvard in the top two percent of his class.

i was impressed by this guy and assumed he was just another rep. i read a little about his biography and wow, he's really been around. highest score in high school on a test out of 50,000 people. worked his way through harvard in 3 years. refused a get-rich-quick job on wall street. went back to school and got a phd in law. started a multi-billion dollar company. he doesn't seem like that kind of guy in these videos but i'm amazed

Unsung Philosophers: Diogenes

HadouKen24 says...

Heh, awesome.

Though it does repeat one of the most common misconceptions about Diogenes. He didn't carry around the lamp saying "I'm looking for an honest man." How exactly this confusion came about, I'm not sure; none of the Greek sources have the word "honest" inserted. He just said "I'm looking for a man." (In the Greek, anthropos, or human being.) Which is to say that he thought the unnecessary institutions of civilization twisted humanity into an unrecognizable distortion of itself.

The cask he lived in was a cast off from the temple of Cybele. This is actually highly significant; Cybele was a goddess of the wilderness. The myths surrounding her implied that abandoning civilization was an entirely doable way to live.

One of my favorite quotes attributed to him is this: "When Lysias, the drug-seller, asked him whether he thought that there there any Gods: "How," said he, "can I help thinking so, when I consider you to be hated by them?"

Most of our knowledge of Dioegenes of Sinope comes from Diogenes Laertius, who wrote biographies of many major Greek philosophers in the 3rd century CE. An online English translation can be found here: http://classicpersuasion.org/pw/diogenes/

Disney buys Marvel for 4 Billion (Wtf Talk Post)

Sagemind says...

Wow, does that mean we can expect to see a whole new merchandise direction when we go to Disneyland?

They already control ABC Studios & ESPN,
Remember Disney also bought The Muppets, Club Penguin and Pixar.
They also have Power Rangers and Nightmare before Christmas.
Not to mention the theme park rights to both Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

That's just off the top of my head but I am sure there are more...

A bit more I just looked up:

Buena Vista International
Touchstone Pictures
Miramax Films
Hollywood Pictures
Dimension Films
DreamWorks
Hulu (27%)
BVS Entertainment - formerly Saban Entertainment (MapleTown, DragonBallZ, PowerRangers, Digimon, Beetleborgs & Much Much More http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saban_Entertainment)

37.5% Interest in
A&E
History Channel
Biography
Military Channel
Crime & Investigation Channel

So much more, I can't list them all... Go Here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assets_owned_by_Disney

Michael Jackson Dies at 50! - June 25 2009

dannym3141 says...

Scratch that. Probably varie is just a guy who wants to be seen as "the guy on the edge". Keep living according to that post-death biography you've already got written in your own head. Probably entitled "This Dead Guy Was Too Cool To Think Like You Do."
