Horrific Multi-Car Freeway Wreck - Los Angeles

BSR says...

Correctomundo, but I don't believe that many drivers were not paying attention. The person taking the video had a light on the very first car and also during the whole video. There were enough brake lights from cars approaching the wreckage but that didn't seem to slow down oncoming traffic too much. I'm thinking there must have been something distracting that many drivers before they could notice what was happening up ahead. Billboards, neon signs, other drivers can be a distraction that calls for your attention also and can be distracting no matter if you are a good driver or not. "Expect the unexpected."

Afterthought: The distraction may have even been the cars pulled over on the shoulder of the road too.

Drivers need to pay attention. There's no fog, rain, wetness, etc.

This is the exact location of the video. Shows the parking garage and also the green temple(?) behind the garage.

Street view available on Goggle Earth. The billboard must be new since GE car went through.

Somebody get that technology some acetaminophen because that's pretty sick.

I wondered how we were supposed to achieve the holographic building-sized billboards from such dystopian futures as presented in Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell, and this is an interesting start!

jesus christ some people have to much time on there hands.

I pretty much dissected each zone. It is actually not any feat of programming, but simply utilizing good video effects many people have forgotten about. Under the core of the setup, the lights are mapped in 2d space in a program and then a bit map image or video playing over it can control what the lights look like every second. This is the same software video billboards use (Translating a video or image to lights mapped in a 2d space).

All the person had to do was setup his video files. A very efficent way of doing complex video effects to a pixel based light project. What was great is I saw a lot of old Demoscene (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demoscene) stuff like plasma and color cycling. Brings back memories.

A Computer Vision System's Walk Through Times Square

That is a legit question. Ignoring that they used a segment of another video, the question is how quickly it used that video segment to render this. The keyword in the paper (https://arxiv.org/abs/1506.01497) is "Towards Real Time", which I guess means it may have been delayed a bit from the original video, but I didn't read past the abstract, and that paper is just the bases for the video.

To be of any real value, say in a car to help it self-drive, is how fast it can do it, and read street signs.

I'm going to guess the reason it doesn't do billboards is it is trained, for whatever reasons to only look so high. Then again, they took another video, then sent that video through the processor, so why ignore them? Also, can it recognize "storefront" "billboard" etc... reading those and translating in real time probably would be a bit advanced for now, but still...

This is awesome.
I wonder if the detection as it is shown in the video is actually real-time, or if some of the information was added later in post.

Interesting that it ignored people on billboards but recognised a wristwatch as a 'clock'.

Also that billboard at the start is a viral ad for a tv show.

The woman at 4:42 is the absolute billboard for about 1/3 of this country.

They despise President Obama, can't rationalize or speak intelligently as to why, but they loath him. (hmmmm i wonder what it could be). She would never accept that she is demonstrable wrong on almost all her assumptions, and she most certainly can't reconcile the very real possibility that she is alive because of a policy that came into effect when a black guy held the presidency. I'm sure that has nothing to do with this though.
