US Pilot of IT Crowd

ctrlaltbleach says...

Whats the point of the wtf and terrible tags if were not going to use them? Also how many people knew they attempted a US version of the show? I didn't until now. Plus it's a great example how America likes to grab something from overseas that was already good to begin with and completely trash it. And I feel sorry for Richard Ayoade look at him he's now dead inside.

oh and wiki says this - "On 30 July 2010, Linehan confirmed that a US version of the show is back on, with possible changes due to negative reactions."

So if the point of the sift is to showcase the best of the internet, and you obviously think this is shit via the terrible wtf tags not to mention you have a decent head on your shoulders. Wtf is it doing here ?

Happy 6th Birthday VideoSift! (Sift Talk Post)

Deano says...

Just chipping into say this is the only site I have ever really felt any kind of connection with. Social networking has never clicked with me as I value some measure of anonymity. Videosift actually seems to have a raison d'etre and all good things flow from that. The best kind of internet for me was prior to people feeding the Facebook monster.
The sift was around then and I hope it continues evermore. Much kudos to the hard work Lucky and Dag put in and best wishes for the future.

Best Use of Internet-Funny Vid to Promote Literary Work

bareboards2 says...

I so wanted to surprise people for when Franco showed up, which is why I didn't mention him originally in the tags, but he was in the thumbnail so what the heck. He's tagged now.

If anyone knows how to change a thumbnail (I don't have a graphics program), I'd love one that hides the easter egg.

(Did I use the term easter egg correctly? Probably not....)

Also, James Franco.

A possible idea to make *beg work better (Sift Talk Post)

choggie says...

Beggar's canyon would work if it were treated as fulfilling others desires over their own or according to some ambiguous framework whose original intent was to offer the best of the internet video offerings. When I go there, I consider first that users used earned points to beg it......they used the invocation because the vid spoke to them in a profound way-

Similarly, if people would take the time to visit the dead pool and earn points by fixing embeds, the number of dead vids would decrease rapidly AND you get points for the fix.

Try changing your titles over and over again...I have conducted the same experiment time and again, with predictable results. The tone, title, and tags are what monkeys respond to, seldom facts or fancy.

I find it amusing that so many people here who would try to distinguish their politics or world view over that of others they deem or label "conservative" or "deluded", look exactly like those they accuse with those convenient, meaningless labels....you all look alike to me.

What made you join VideoSift? (Sift Talk Post)

Fjnbk says...

On December 27, 2006, I was looking up a Ray Bradbury short story which had a link to this video, which led me to this now defunct video. A few weeks later, I joined, probably so I could submit videos, I think. Also, so I could upvote. I completely ignored Sift Talk for quite some time, until after I got my gold star.

So, I'm saying thank you right now to everyone who congratulated me in this post, and sorry for the lateness of my reply.

Also, big thank you to whomever linked to here from that Wikipedia page, even if they're not actually a sifter. This website is the best on the Internet.

Gold 100 double upvote proposal (Sift Talk Post)

MINK says...

my proposal would only give a little bit of power to senior members to help videos out of the queue a little bit. the worst that can happen is more videos make it out of the queue. they might only get 11 votes total but at least they are on the Sift and searchable.
giving people double downvotes would be very different, then i would agree with you.

About the top 15, yes it is not bad, it's the best on the internet.
But that's the popularity contest side of things, don't you see the Sift also as a library (perhaps with a larger selection of long documentaries that aren't about iraq?)
if you attract the kind of person that wants more than lolcats, the whole Sift benefits.

Ok, yesterday this guy submitted a clear self-link. And instead of learning his lesson, now submits what I'm guess will turn out to be "his friends" video.

Clearly this is not the best of the internets..
