Base Jumping Inside A Church!

Dude Takes a Mountain to His Crotch at 120 mph (no joke)

I saw a documentary on base jumpers a while back. It seems that for most of the base jumping community that when you decide to buy a wingsuit you're pretty much going to lose a lot of your basejumping friends because they now things are approaching an end for you...
Just like folks that buy motorcycles, that's the best time to become a great friend! ...And call dibs on their choice goods.

Its true that often times people live before they die.

No but srsly, I saw that documentary too. I'd love to wingsuit once but I fear I'd be trapped in the obsessive pursuit of lower and faster, a trend where altitude and velocity approach 0 and terminal. I wonder if this guy clips his wings after this...I bet against it. It wasn't good enough, if it had been he'd be dead.

Cat Base Jumps Without A Parachute

Good point. I say this calls for some controlled experimentation by Mythbusters.>> ^HaricotVert:

Although QI has a ton of fact checkers and are typically correct, there are some problems with the study they quoted. Radiolab discussed the findings of the "cat terminal velocity," and had Neil deGrasse Tyson on as a guest to dispute the study based on that it was working from a biased sample. That is to say, the study would have a disproportionately high number of cases where cats fell from heights of X feet, yet sustained non-life threatening injuries, and then were brought to vets by their panicked owners to get them checked out. The vets only have those cats that owners actually brought in to document the height from which they fell.
Cats that are obviously dead after falling from any height (whether 2nd story or 30th) are typically not brought in to vets. They're buried.

According to QI, any higher than 7 stories, and a cat's skin will spread out like a wingsuit and it will glide to the ground.

Good call. I have the same problem with people who talk about "Surges in violent crime". The instances of violent crime aren't surging, it's merely the reporting of them. A police department can show success against crime merely by making it harder to complain.

Also, while I don't think violent video games CAUSE violence, it is possible you will get fewer reports of violence from people inured of violence, hence the false idea of "violent video games reduce violent acts".

Oh, and I totally laughed out loud at the cat.

"He limped a bit after the grain truck incident,..." LOL Couldn't stop laughing at that point.

Ya I had a tom cat that slit it's belly open one time in a fight, I could see his intestines even, I bandaged him up gave him penicillin shot's a few days in a row and he was just fine for years didn't even stitch him up. Well that part was more his idea then mine but you get the picture here.

Uhh, That cat just died. Or it was badly hurt. Look at the view and things in the distance. This window is at least a second floor possibly 3rd

I grew up on a farm and can assure you that cats are tough. We had one that survived a fight with a muskrat, only to snag itself on a fish hook which was deep enough that some of it was left in him, and he then went on to be fully run over by a loaded grain truck. He limped a bit after the grain truck incident, but ultimately lived on to die of old age.

Dunno about what you see in the distance, but what i see is a corner wall and given the angle involved, i'd be forced to guess one up from ground floor. That's assuming the house isn't on a raised bit of land.

You also don't know whether there was a garage roof underneath, a pool, a pond, a little tree or bush, a kitchen extension... the list is endless.

I also feel like the reaction would be more significant if it had fallen a really huge distance. If they wanted the cat to die they'd want to film it, and if they wanted it to live they'd be desperate to see if it was ok.

no, i meant the guy right after that.. It looks like he's going way faster than just running to me

whoa, what happened at 3:49? is that guy going as fast as it looks like or am i imagining things?

Are you're talking about the skiing? He's (most likely) ski base jumping; it's one of the latest extreme skiing crazes, and how notable skier Shane McConkey died a couple years ago.
edit: you can tell when he pulls the chute, his skis kick forward suddenly

Looks like he was on a zip line. You can't see the actual line, but you can see the handle when he lets go.
