The Fine Tuning of the Universe

newtboy says...

The platypus was the joke part. (I think you got that);-)
Please...first that's not proving a negative. That's about understanding the definition of a word....and second it is wrong...divorced men without children (but that had been married) are bachelors, married men with a bachelor's degree are bachelors, young married knights that follow another's banner are bachelors, as are married landless knights. D'OH! ;-)
I don't have to prove the universe isn't designed, nor do I say anything that definitive. (because one could say that the laws of physics are a form of design, so in that sense I do think the universe is 'designed', but not by a 'designer god'). If you feel the need for others like me to believe as you, it's up to you to prove it IS designed, and by who.
I do say there's no need for a 'designer', and it seems incredibly unlikely as well as completely unnecessary. I will also say all I've heard about 'god' only references stories told by men long ago (or anecdote), and trying to 'prove' some of those stories is not proving god. I can't say what might prove god...if he existed omnisciently he might know, but he's keeping quiet about it! ;-)
I also say incredible claims require incredible evidence, not anecdotal 'evidence'...conversely 'that which can be asserted without evidence can be discarded without evidence.' (Hitchens)

hehe, I think the platypus is a marvel of design. Only a creative genius could come up with a duck-beaver.

You can prove a negative. Here is one: there are no married bachelors

I think it is a valid question. If you know the Universe isn't designed, what criteria are you using? What is the difference between the Universe we are living in and one that would be designed. I am wondering how people rule that out, or why they seem to think it is a ridiculous question to begin with.

Pregnant Woman Blasts Antiabortion Protesters Outside Clinic

gorillaman says...

If abortion were actually wrong then if anything these protests would be unreasonably mild. If children were being murdered in that building then waving banners at the murderers would hardly be an appropriate reaction.

Their fault is in their beliefs, not their tactics.

It sure does:

The banners shown throughout the clip are rather hilarious. Most of them are spins on old NS slogans, just to really rub it in -- ridicule has proven to be the most effective way of dealing with these folks.

Was curious if something like this makes national news in Germany. http://videosift.com/video/German-Town-Turns-Neo-Nazi-March-into-Hilarious-Walkathon

Avengers 2: Age of Ultron - Official Teaser Trailer

RFlagg says...

Seriously! I mean we got Hulkbuster armor! The way everyone is in the room with Banner but looking away and he looks like he just did something bad... more and more hints of a possible Planet Hulk movie! Andy Serkis, in an unknown roll... (I've heard guesses as to him being Ulysses Klaw, but I don't know who that is at all but based on the pics from the comics and his back story it sounds likely). Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch... Thor grabbing Tony Stark, and Tony's statements about the path he himself started (creating Ultron rather than Hany Pym) which might hint at Civil War... so much geek going on in this trailer.

Also, Jame's Spader's voice acting was perfect.... The use of "I Got No Strings"... I'm pumped for a midnight showing myself.

It must really take a lot to get some of you folks aroused.

For me? Two words:

*Fuck. Yes.

Amazing rally car crash

mighty mites defeated by victory banner

oritteropo says...

None of them seemed that upset or hurt... although the kid on the right at 0:08 had a sore leg afterwards from the way he landed on it.

As for what went wrong, the poster writes:

Few people asked about the banner. Yes it's vinyl but it is actually two pieces held together by Velcro. What you can't see is the sign is backwards with the writing facing us on the field. Guess it's not made to break that way

At the age, I'm pretty sure I'd have rather had this awesome pile up rather than the actual game! Case in point, there was no real reason for the last few to pile on... except that they're kids.

lucky760 said:

I know that may be a bit of an overreaction, but maybe I'll stop feeling that way when my two young sons are older. Until then, I can't help that bad things that I see or hear about happening to kids really make me empathize.

Spider-Woman's Big Ass Is A Big Deal - Maddox

dannym3141 says...

Brilliantly constructed argument that the professionally offended would do well to listen to and understand. There is a clear context in which being offended makes sense and outside of that context you end up doing damage to the cause you were championing.

Under the banner of equality, the magazine writers created a problem where there wasn't one previously. If anything, the Spiderwoman drawing championed equality. And now people will think twice before drawing Spiderwoman doing the same things Spiderman does - what a great day for equality!

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Native Advertising

RFlagg says...

One of the companies I worked for, their whole advertising gimmick was basically Native Advertising. The ads were formatted to look like that publication's news stories. There was a small banner at the top that said "Paid advertisement" but if you missed that, the rest of the ad read like a newspaper or magazine entry. Complete with interviews with people in the company or former government officials and the like. There would be of course a special offer for the readers of this paper at the end, making it seem far more personalized than it was. One felt a bit dirty sending things to the people who were duped into paying $20 for a State $2 bill that had a static sticker over it to make it look like it was some sort of official thing, and of course that was a subscription, so they'd get taken to the cleaner many more times...

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Mission Statement

newtboy says...

*dead
come on, posting un-released videos so you can beat others to it? What's up with that?
I'll also give it a *blocked
Too bad sifty doesn't listen to me, someone else will have to take up the banner and fix this.

And what's up with those of you up-voting a video you haven't watched? Come on now.

Doom - Did You Know Gaming?

RFlagg says...

Yeah. Sort of how All Your History series on Machinima did it... though they seem to have lost it during season 5 when it seemed more like, here's the people who paid us to do a All Your History than anything truly insightful. I keep hoping somebody will take up the banner of All Your History and do it right. Did You Know Gaming and The Game Theorists come close, but lack the feel the original series did.

There are a lot of missed stuff. The video should have been longer or split to have more parts.
