Unique 1982 Intellivision Commercial Shown Only In Cinemas

deathcow says...

I had an aquaintance with an intellivision, that was close enough for me to the device. The controllers just sucked. (He also had the "Big Trak" truck which you could program with the keypad in its truck bed.) I was into Atari 2600.

What is your favorite genre of game to play? (Videogames Talk Post)

Crosswords says...

My favorite genre are probably murder simulators I mean FPSs. Nothing beats good ole multiplayer mayhem, be it team play or death match. My current favorite is TF2, not only is it great fun, but it doesn't bring my computer to its knees and make it beg for mercy. Q3 gets an honorable mention for all the countless hours of LAN games I played on it.

Other Games I've enjoyed greatly:
Final Fantasy 3 (US)
Secret of Mana
Chrono Trigger
Grim Fandango
Star Craft
Galactic Civilizations II (Known to cause highly localized time warps)
Half Life series

I've recently managed to kick a WoW addiction, I'm treating it with a plethora of other games to manage the cravings.

GOT GAMES? (Blog Entry by eric3579)

The economics are interesting. At the moment I guess all those N64 cartridges are depreciating inventory- but at some point, with the nostalgia factor does it start to appreciate again- like a mint Chevy Nova?

Atari 2600 cartridges have gone up in value, no?

TV still has no f*cking idea how games work

budzos says...

This is one of the mnost shit-tastic clips I've ever watched. Worst part is the crazy mashing way they manipulate the controller, like we're seeing an early 80s Atari 2600 commercial.

Oh, and 'berticus' is a buddy of mine. He's who told me about videosift. Great site y'all have here.

And, umm... I was the first kid on my block to own an Atari 2600, when it had one game. I'm hoping that carries some geek cred around here as well. You should see my glasses. Issued BCG's, that are 10 years old now. Seriously. Just a very slight astigmatism, though. So I only need them for fine print.

Commodore 64 Classics

H.E.R.O. omg I had it on Atari 2600!! Didn't know there was a C=64 version, nor I did now there was Bubble Bobble, though I should've suspected it.

what's the ninja game? I had it and I don't remember the name! (ok "Last Ninja 2", I've read)

GREAT Microprose Soccer, one of my favourite games ever! The other soccer game sucked.

I loved two games my cousin had, but I don't know the original name because they were pirated (back when it was legal).

In one (platform) you were a knight (Lancelot?) and wandered around a strange forest-like world, picked up some "things" and tried to avoid bad plants, or things like that. It was NOT the game called "Lancelot"

Another one, called "Production" but pirated games always changed the name, you were a yellow little bird, it had fixed screens, and you - IIRC - weren't required to complete a screen to move to the next one. There were many doors you could choose.

I would dearly love to play these games, anybody got an hint, please?

Intellivision TV Commercial: Henry Thomas

budzos says...

Yeah if you were a cynical jerk you could say this is more reminiscent of "day stalker" than "Night Stalker". Or you could admit that this is great, Night Stalker is a classic game, and Lock 'n Chase was about a hundred times better than the home version of Pac Man for Atari 2600, which at the time meant a lot.

Gold for Deathcow (Sift Talk Post)

About time. Some of you may have picked up that I have known DC since VideoSift ran on an Atari 2600.

DC got PitFall before me, and got a Colecovision instead of an Atari 5200 - violating the pre-Xmas agreement we had for cartridge swapping.

The Viral tag (Sift Talk Post)

Krupo says...

arrendek, you did make a *quality point, because technically everything on here is viral. We reserve it for marketing campaigns and videos which are notable for the fact that they ARE viral - i.e., they got news coverage because of how widespread they are, or are known throughout the 'internets' for their online rise to fame. We have a bit of latitude with all definitions but I think the nature of the channel as it stands is becoming fairly well defined. Also, there was talk of making an advertisement or commerce channel, but this is what the Sift Founders decided on. Not to mention not all advertisements qualify for this channel, actually. See the logic I share here -
http://www.videosift.com/video/Phil-Hartman-in-Atari-2600-Ice-Hockey-game-commerical

Wikipedia, you must remember, is not videosift (and vice versa, heh). Their definitions must suit their criteria - being broad enough to include whatever is the term that gets the broadest consensus, really.

<high horse>
At videosift, we are specialists of the art of sifting through videos, which a layperson would be unable to distinguish as being one type or another. It's a byproduct of the stars, the voting, the whole system.
</high horse>

So although you are correct that modern ads for modern products are generally all viral, older ads sifted out of nostalgia such as the Atari clip clearly aren't. You may argue, convincingly, that Atari's current company gets a PR boost even when you discuss their older products, and if it was clear that this was part of their campaign to remember their 'golden oldies' or whatever, then it would totally be appropriate to label it viral.

You'll probably see some contradictorily-labelled clips on the Sift, though, as siftbot went around doing some auto-tagging, but I say the system works as it stands.

Wii is HERE!!! (Sift Talk Post)

ant says...

Nooo, you must not let the new consoles distract you from VideoSift. J/K!

I haven't had a game console since Atari 2600! I don't need another one. PC gaming is enough and I barely have time for it.

If I get it for free, then I don't mind.
