I highly recommend Gang Garrison 2. It's what you'd get if TF2 made sweet, sweet love to an Atari 2600, with some rocking online multiplayer thrown in for good measure. Pretty slick parody as well in some places. It's a tiny download; CTF, CP, Arena, and I want to say KOTH are all modes that are present.

Speaking of 2d multiplayer shooters, Soldat is another goody. An amazing 2d shooter with mechanics & weapons from Quake, Counterstrike, and Starsiege: Tribes all wrapped in a sexy 2d physics/particle engine with multiple modes.

I played AC & AC2 to the PC, not a console person either .. and all that DRM effort Ubisoft put in didnt do them any good, they've all been broken by hacker groups. AC2 took a while before it was cracked, but it fell just like any other title.

Looks nice, but will the game be fun? I heard the first game was repetitve, bloated, etc.

Correct .. the first one was more of a nice looking prototype then a game. However, Assasins Creed 2 perfected it. If you havent already played AC2, then I strongly reccommend that you pick it up. Well crafted through and through. You should be able to jump straight into it without having played the first one and still enjoy it immensly.

Haha, it reminds me old Action Quake2/AQ2's glitches/bugs (e.g., stuck bodies).

I was a hard core computer gamer (Windows/DOS/Apple //c) for years after Atari 2600. For the last few years, I haven't had time and I still have tons of games (Crysis, World in Conflict, C&C3:KW, demos, betas, etc.) to play.

8-bit Starcraft

4-bit colour is a maximum of 16 colours.

The C64 wasnt 4 bit color, its limit was just 16 colors, which is more then this game used. This game looks more like the atari 2600.

Sword & Sorcery: amazing new game for iPhone

"This looks like a must-buy for any gamers who are iPhone users... the style, interface, music, everything just looks amazing... according to Kotaku it will be out later this year."
What? This game looks incredibly boring. By style I guess it is refering to the Atari 2600 style graphics. Didn't see an interface. The music sounded like some cheap 64bit garbage, and there was not much as far as actual gameplay goes.
Definately going to need to see more from this game before it is a "must-buy."

I agree and disagree. I thought the music was good. I also feel the graphics were original and I'm fine with it being low-tech. I appreciate games that don't feel the need to focus on graphics but instead overall game play/storyline etc. BUT the game does look boring. I assume the game has more to offer than wandering around with no apparent purpose. The teaser should have shown that.

Angry Video Game Nerd: Pong Consoles

TheFreak says...

Woohoo! My 2 first consoles in that review. Sears Pong and the Fairchild Channel F.

Yeah, so all my friends had the Atari 2600 but we bet on the Fairchild. My first life lesson in market share. The Fairchild was a million times better than the Atari but the 2600 had better ads.

Atari "Little Boy" commercial from 1983 makes you squirm

garmachi says...

I remember that commercial vividly from back in the days when I was saving my paper route money to buy an Atari 2600. Sadly, I put all of my paper route money into Pac Man machines, one quarter at a time.
