Now that I have had a chance to compare the Arrows F1 vid to the other ones from 2012 (and it does say at the start that the one I posted is from 2012... oops) there are other 2001 Arrows A22 out there, I found one of several owned by the Woodcock Brothers and driven by Michael Woodcock at Monza (http://youtu.be/VVBuTMCpIeE). It does have different liverie to this one though, with Woodcock on the side. They did once manage to get two cars going and had two Woodcock brothers in a Boss event at Hockenheim.

Even better though, I found another vid of this car at Zolder, and the info on that vid says:

model: Arrows A22
production year: 2001
driver: Arnold Wagner (GER)
engine: Asiatech 3.0l V10
chassis: A22 - 07
track: Circuit Zolder
date: 2012-08-16

It doesn't say, but you can tell from the helmet that it's Arnold Wagner of Germany. The video is from 2012, and there are some other vids from around the same time.

Rennwerk GMBH use this car as a mule for their tyre temperature sensor testing, and have pictures of it all over their web site, and some other videos.

Any idea who was driving the car on this occasion? Takes a strong stomach to race such a fast car against all those slowmobiles!

I can't believe I've never seen this movie.

I've heard it referenced many times, but every time I do, I think they're talking about True Lies (with Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis).

And it was written by Tarantino?

Downloaded it and am watching it now. Just got to the scene in this video. Can't wait to love the rest of this movie.

Thanks for posting this.

P.S. Gary Oldman is a pimp. (No pun intended.)

It's Illegal To Feed The Homeless In Florida

speechless says...

Well it takes about 10 fucking seconds with google to find out the truth here. Arnold Abbott (whose name should be in the title/tags/description/somewhere imo) was cited for violating the new city ordinance against feeding the homeless in a public space. There was NO "food safety" violation whatsoever. And the last time this happened he sued Ft. Lauderdale and won. But they changed the law now to make it worse. They don't want the homeless people there. That's all there is to it. This is why you see other heartless cunt towns giving homeless people free bus tickets. They just want the homeless out. Don't feed them. Just get them the fuck out of there. To hell with solving the problem or treating them like human beings.

Here's an update (because he's done it again) with includes all the parties involved (police, the accused and the cunt mayor):

And it wasn't "apparently catered". Where do you get that and why would it even matter? I don't even know what it means. Any food hot on a table with some sternos is a catered event?

Honestly, they should just give all the homeless they are trying to serve a penny. Then set up their "catered" event and charge the homeless one penny to eat. Now they're not giving it away.

I couldn't even bear to watch the video to listen for the audio, but I think it's likely you are correct. This is yet another context-less internet video which someone has placed in an inflammatory context. Obviously they're not being cited for giving away food. That's not illegal. Everyone's flailing about "LET THEM FEED THE HOMELESS" (including the post title) but if there's a food safety violation going on here, well, it's the job of the police to make sure they don't get a bunch of people sick, especially some homeless folk who probably don't have a good way to get to the ER if they get really bad food poisoning.

A responsible news crew (or anyone interested in providing context) would have followed up with a word from the guys being cited, and with a police spokesperson to get the real story from both sides.

With all of that said, the cynic in me is still here. He says "it can't be that hard to give safe (apparently catered) food away on the street for free, with or without a permit".

Dangerous Conformity

ChaosEngine says...

@poolcleaner, maybe no-one reacted because they had experience that told them they weren't in danger? The last few earthquakes in California were pretty small (5.1, 4.4) or pretty far away (6.8 50 miles out to sea) and none of them rated above moderate on the MMI. Sorry, but if you run around yelling at people that they should panic, when the danger isn't that great, then yeah, you kinda look like a crazy person.

I certainly won't react to anything under a 5.5 these days.

As for the video, it's kinda bullshit.

It's a completely artificial scenario. If there was a real fire, people would have gotten up, at least a few would be panicking, etc.

People love this kinda thing because they can point and laugh at all the sheep who blindly follow the herd. In reality, this behaviour is an evolved response, because 9 times out of 10, it's the correct behaviour.

There's a phenomenon known as "the wisdom of crowds", where a group of people who make advocate wildly differing solutions to a problem will actually average out to the correct solution. Everyone hates this, because everyone likes to think they're smarter than average, and they want to believe that a single individual is the pinnacle of everything.

This is prevalent in our culture. Look how many stories involve "one man against the odds", etc. Reality tends not to conform to this. Even if you're Arnold Schwarzenegger, when you storm the compound, you get killed by a random guard. Most scientific discoveries are not one lone genius against the establishment, but a whole bunch of people working simultaneously toward the same goal and arriving at the same answer around the same time.

Of course this is not always true, but those are the exceptions rather than the rule.

The sad fact is that a consensus among informed people generally tends toward the correct answer. It makes for a lousy story, but it's generally true.

Still, if you see flames, get the hell out of the building
