The Bible is a storybook, that's all. A conspiracy to me, is a cover up of a crime.

You've convinced yourself pretty well with your strange arguments. Just because the Bible cites historical architectural knowledge doesn't mean there's a God. It just means that the people who wrote it at the time obviously took inspiration from their time period and what existed. It doesn't mean EVERYTHING they wrote is now true, they just had a reliable backdrop to their story, why would they write about a places and gatherings and cities and nations and locations that didn't exist, when they are wanting to trick people at the time? Surely it's a requirement to portray the world correctly and then use your lies in preaching to trick people to believing it.

I don't know how you can be so misguided to think proving the bible's archaeological facts leads it to prove all the crazy beliefs of a God and Satan and a Virgin birth, etc.

I can write a book about WW2, citing all the battles, bombs dropped, people killed, gatherings etc, and then just add in a load of stuff about how Hitler was actually secretly taking orders from a magical Unicorn called George who hated everyone, and that the allies were being advised by a giant Elephant called Bob who was kind and benevolent. So apparently in 2000 years, people like you will believe it all because all the archaeological data was proved in my story.

Talking about Christian's persecutions means nothing, brainwashed people are brainwashed, they think they will go to heaven if they do good, and go to hell if they stop believing in God. So no matter what persecution there is, until they are actually allowed to see sense, they will continue to believe in God and teach their children to believe in God.

Also I'd look at the surveys the other way, 79% of the people in the survey didn't believe in God, and 90% don't pray weekly. Then in the other survey 80% of the scientists aren't spiritual. That's a good amount of people who are sane. There has to be at least some crazy scientists otherwise we might miss out of some discoveries.

The movie was a bit too much florid Herzog for my tastes, and I saw it in 2D and it was structured to be seen in 3D, but still. I learned something. The paintings look contemporary -- they are, well, stunning.

And I thought of you in the middle of this doc. Herzog went to a couple of museums to show other archeological works of the same time period.

One of the oldest artistic representations humans have is the Venus of Willendorf-type sculptures. You've seen them? The woman's fertile body, with tiny head, feet and hands, large belly, large thighs, large breasts, large labia. All about the fecundity. The first human image deemed important enough to sculpt.

The sculpture shown in the movie was apparently a pendant -- instead of a head, there was a ring on top for a cord or something to go through so it could be worn or held up.

There's a very simple reason for having the view of atheism, God has not been proven to exist, there is no empirical evidence, and there is a lot of logical reasoning behind why it is a lie and why religion only prospers from indoctrinating children and weak minded people, and can not prosper from trying to convert educated people into it.
Religion has only come so far because of human fear. Soon once our lifespans will increase much more and we will hopefully advance medicine far enough that people won't be as afraid of death any more and there'll be a massive shift away from religion, in the same way education shifted people away from it in the industrial era.

So the Bible is "historical evidence"? You do know that all the accounts of Jeebs' life were written decades after he allegedly lived, don't you? That at least one of the Gospels is simply a rewriting of another (i.e. Matthew of Mark)? That alot of them contain "cherry-picked" passages from the Jewish Prophets' texts in order to make prophecies "come true" (causing the NT to be even more incoherent)? etc...
Just because archeology says there was a town or fountain somewhere that's mentionned in the Bible, doesn't mean Jeebs did the zombie walk (nor that such a character even existed... even that is debatable). Not to mention how biased most of those "studies" are (i.e. trying to make the fact fit the fiction). I guess since castle ruins and crypts can be found in Romania (ex-Transylvania), Dracula the immortal vampire truly existed?

It is exceedingly rare that you find an atheist who actually understands the bible well enough to create a coherent theological argument, for or against, let alone understands the meaning and could apply it. I've never met one, personally. I'm willing to concede that its possible one may exist. I wouldn't say more than one though.

Most of the atheists I've met don't know anything about it, are just ignorantly and arrogantly railing against something they've never read and don't understand, accusing theists of being brainwashed when they themselves are merely getting all their information from the atheist group mind. I chose just one to attack, not because I don't have something to say about everything, but I'm on a time budget here. So what you're saying, is that the bible has a good source of knowledge about good archeological dig sites? Let me rephrase that, as this is a question that, when asked correctly, reveals how stupid the idea contained within really is:

So what you are saying is, a book written a long time ago—by people who lived a long time ago—about the world they lived in, has a lot of information about where to find things that existed during the time that they lived? No shit?

That archeologist was simply stating that the bible has good information about where cities used to be and where he can find artifacts...I like the optimistic spin on it though.

Also, don't get archeology confused with geology, because TONS of geological findings have "controverted" biblical things.

I wonder whether you religious nuts can see through eachothers claims, can you see for instance, whats wrong with that Quran-argument, or does that seem reasonable to you? Wow, thats almost 100% inaccurate. Israeli archiologists have, with great religious entusiasm and eagerness, for decades tried to document the 40-year travel through the desert from Egypt that the Jews are said to have done. One of the most famous bible stories, and, one would think, one of the best candidates to be proven true by archeology, yet they have all come up empty handed. It is, for all intends and purposes, as if it never happened.

Well written, but still factually biased. I don't dispute it takes a certain amount of faith to believe in something, but saying it takes more faith to believe in science over a religion is laughable, seeing as how most scientific processes can be duplicated in a lab, and the only time people see the immaculately concepted Jesus is in stale bread.

Calling them "errors" is an error, if you cant prove it so...

I don't even want to get started with your "#2" ...but I will touch on it:

You mean to tell me that it wasn't the sun he probably was referring to? It is a very vague statement, loosely translated. I mean, wasn't the voyage of Christopher Columbus nearly defunded by the Queen of Spain due to the fact most of the Catholics believed the earth was flat? How could they possibly misinterpret such a factual document as the Bible then but not now, or at any other time?

#3 is also a gross interpretation of the bibles factuality, the closest thing people had to a science was alchemy if I'm mistaken, and there is a reason we don't teach Alchemy 101 these days. It was full of holes where we as a species didn't have an understanding of our own surroundings. Take beer brewing for example, even the German purity laws had to be amended to allow yeast as a viable and lawful ingredient to beer because the humans of the past flat out didn't understand or fathom its use/need in the brewing process because it had been introduced naturally to the unaware brewers since beer has been around. <-Thank you science, not the all knowing bible. External sources are just as unreliable then as they are now, if not more so, smart people expect some credibility, and aren't the type to blindly accept.

Most people don't dispute the correlation of events in the bible to that of actual history, its just obvious that either initially or over the years, the truth was embellished to that of an Aesop fable. (wait, was that part real, or no?) Oh and Nelson Glueck wrote that quote? Impressive... unless you consider the thousands of other scientists that have a slightly different opinion on the matter...

The fact is there have been more than 25,000 discoveries within the region known as the "Bible Lands” that have confirmed the truthfulness of the Bible.

Interesting archeologically.

However, his ruminations to theorization are...wanting. All basis for credibility were dashed when he stated corn came from the geographical region.

What did they do to the cash register? I chuckled thinking that one person used a small brush to expedit an archeological investigation on it...or maybe to check for finger prints?!

What is he doing on this show? So incongruous.

It doesn't matter how hard they try, I'll never find archeology fun.

Well, you are exactly right. We are all atheists where it comes to gods such as Zeus, etc. The problem with the idea of the interconnection of everything in the universe is that it's unsubstantiated, mystical, wishy-washy nonsense. People like to feel like they are connected to everything because it makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but that doesn't make it real.

Personally, my problem with this kind of spirituality is that it keeps people from bothering to look into proper astronomy, geology, archeology and biology to learn for themselves how truly amazing and wondrous reality actually is. Of course we don't have ALL of the answers to life, the universe and everything, and no scientist will ever tell you that we do, but science strives to find real answers to real questions, while spirituality seems to make up questions that really don't need to be asked.
