Africans Don't Like African-Americans

chingalera says...

Indeed Yogi, the term African American should refer to anyone who can claim total or partial ancestry from any of the native populations of Sub-Saharan Africa. I believe there's already terminology which everybody can feel comfortable with, with which to refer to, 'everyone'.

If you wanna blame someone for for having to hear the term, blame Jesse Fucking Jackson. You wanna blame someone for the word nigger or negro, it's time to start pointing fingers at the fucking Spaniards, and we have only pussies and assholes to blame for political correctness.

Oakland CA Is So Scary Even Cops Want Nothing To Do With It

@longde
Out of politeness, I've removed the link.

But the article's chronicling of the urban decay data seems to be a useful companion to mainstream sources, which need to either spin data optimistically or not report it. That leaves behind a lot of victims who could have prevented the crimes against them.

The only mention of race in my comment was inclusive of all ancestries: "I'm speaking to the minority of people from all ancestries who are on the side of civilization."

The rest of the comment is about culture. Many people try to make them the same thing. They're not the same. That's why I included the clarification about all ancestries.

These types of considerations are far from the site you mentioned, which isn't a place I'd ever go. They'd consider me a hippy.

@bobknight33 @Trancecoach

Christians were once the majority in Lebanon, and they made Beruit "the Paris of the Middle East." But that era is over. They lost a battle of the cradle.

It's the same story with Oakland, Baltimore, and Detroit. Detroit was once "the Paris of the West," but the people who made it that way were forced out, and the culture, mismanagement, and corruption of the new caretakers couldn't maintain what had been built.

[edit: link removed]

We now live in a different world than our parents' 1960s, when most of our current ideas were invented. (I'm speaking to the minority of people from all ancestries who are on the side of civilization.)

Proud To Be -- The Best Super Bowl Ad you'll never see

GuyNumberOne says...

I think the reason "we do that", is because such a large proportion of our resident's roots in the United States go back no more than 100 years, and there are SO MANY different cultures and ethnicities you can encounter, especially in Urban areas. Oftentimes an ethnicity or culture will live in a specific town or part of a city and will preserve much of their culture and tradition. I guess we could pretend like everyone is the same, but there ARE differences in culture and tradition, and i think we only use those terms when we are acknowledging/talking about those things. I don't know how that differs from where you are from, but maybe the difference for us is the sheer size of the country and its diversity means we have much larger clusters of people with a shared or common foreign ancestry and so they get more attention?

However, I don't think "African American" or "Hispanic American" are used as commonly as you think, aside from the news where topics like racism and affirmative action get more exposure, and a way to delineate differences is necessary. Or when we want to figure what kind of food to eat for dinner

what seems weird about the usa as an outsider is how you are american if you are caucasian but if you are not then you are a hyphenated american. african-american, native american. Maybe its because I come from a country with the population of one of your states and the fact that we got rid of racist logos decades ago (see gollywogs) but sometimes you guys seem a little behind the times...not that I'm from a utopia or anything.

White supremacist discovers he's part black

Sylvester_Ink says...

If I recall correctly, according to mixed-ancestry laws in the old South, one had to be at minimum an "octaroon," ie. 1/8th black or less, in order to be identified as white and be given the accorded rights. 1/8th is 12.5%. So this fine gentleman would not be allowed the full rights of a white man, under racial law.

After Earth Trailer #2

And you don't think Prometheus's back story insulted your intelligence? With its complete disregard for evolution and the common ancestry of humans with all other animals on this planet? Not to mention all the other stupid, neglectful, lazy inconsistencies and absurdities? No doubt you're going to love this movie then.

Fletch said:

I'm not usually picky about stuff like this (I loved "Prometheus"), but the back-story can't insult my intelligence if you want me to suspend disbelief for two hours.

Native American Shuts Down Anti-Illegal Immigrant Protest

shatterdrose says...

Last time I brought up this issue to an anti-immigrant group, all I heard was crickets. Then I asked them how many of them were Native American descent . . . none? Oh, sorry, I guess being the only one with actual Native American ancestry I'm the only one who can complain. Europeans stole this land, and now they're upset it's being stolen from them. Oh, the irony. Only, irony doesn't apply when you're too stupid to read basic history.

Genome Mapping now $99

grinter says...

"Genome mapping" is misleading. That makes it sound like they are going to sequence your entire genome, when all they are doing is looking for a collection of alleles known to be associated with certain risks or ancestries. It's "genetic testing".

Democracy Distilled: a History of Our Nation's Voting Rights

The real question is when will we end the discrimination against people of corporate ancestry. When will they be allowed to vote? When will they be allowed to hold office? The hypocrisy of it all!

Kid Attacked by Pet Dog in Street

A10anis says...

Looked like a rottweiler cross. Just another example why dogs initially bred for their ferocity, tenacity, and fighting ability, should be totally banned. Chipping and/or licensing will not work, they will be ignored. And PLEASE don't drag out the old argument that it is the owners fault. Of course, any dog can be made vicious, but these dogs are not bought by owners who want a companion. They have owners who want them for protection, intimidation and status. These dogs are highly strung, impulsive, unpredictable, and give little, if any, warning that they are about to strike. How many adults, children, police, or other dogs, need to be maimed before action is taken? Look at the statistics on the breeds that attack. The latest one shows that guide dog attacks have gone up to 8 a month and the breeds, generally, responsible are fighting dogs. I own a Tamaskan (A big dog derived from sled dog ancestry). There are four bull terriers in my neighborhood and when we pass EVERY one of them strains, snarling and growling to get at him. I pray each time that their leads don't break.

Anti-Semite Politician Discovers He's Jewish, Gets Ousted

KnivesOut says...

The roots of antisemitism stem from the idea that because Jews were responsible for the death of christ, they should be purged from the world. Anti-semites don't persecute Jews because of their current religious beliefs, but because of their ancestry, their connection to the people "responsible" for the death of christ.

That explains why these morons would suddenly turn on their former leader. He's cursed, tainted by his blood, in their perverted minds. It has nothing to do with his current religious beliefs.

Again, we're talking about very dumb people; logic and reason were never required to be a member of this club.

Why Dave Chappelle Quit Illuminati

>> ^wraith:

A question that always bothered me and that has almost nothing to do with this video: Why do so many African Americans think they have to go to Africa to find their roots? In Europe, in all countries except France, 99% of African people are really first or second generation immigrants from one of the dozens of Nations in Africa.
They have relatives living there.
I understand that.
African Americans have their roots as much in "Africa", as I have my roots in....I don't even know...Germany? France? Russia? Hungary?
I don't even know where my ancestors lived three hundred years ago.
And I don't care.
I don't get it.

He went to South Africa. IIRC it wasn't anything to do with him being black or having African ancestry. It was just some place where he wasn't famous and could get away from a public that knew him. I figure Europe would have been similar to the US in that regard. Why not go to the east? Maybe not enough English speakers, who knows.

Crash Course: The Mongols!

Great video, but I have one quibble.
16 million people can trace their ancestry back to one person, but that person is not Genghis Khan. It is Genghis Khan's mother. His brothers (the ones he didn't kill) followed his leadership and were able to have many, many wives and concubines. Between them they have 16 million descendants.

I thought the Khan lineage was traced on the Y-chromosome. Wouldn't that require that "one person" to be male?

I thought about that after I posted.

If that's the case, change that to Genghis' father.
