I wasn't quite clear. I don't mean scrap the system. I mean replace the officers, and train the new ones how to behave PROPERLY, and insist on severe punishment for any infraction. When the rule enforcer breaks the rules, they should have to pay twice what non-enforcers pay for the same crime...with no coddling in "protective custody".
I also agree with reversing the militarization. People will use the tools you give them...if you give them tools of war, they'll commit acts of war with them. Seems obvious to me.
My issue is that the "good cops" NEVER go after the bad cops themselves....as I see it, that makes them accessories after the fact, and also bad cops for obstructing justice. I'm fine with keeping any cop that's testified AGAINST another cop, even one that has documentation proving they stopped another cop from taking things too far. The rest need to go, IMO. They have all been complacent in the face of their own being criminal, and I'm simply not OK with that.
I do agree, simply enacting a zero tolerance policy for ANY officer misconduct, and stricter punishment than normal citizens get for the same infraction would remove most "bad cops" right away...but only if their fellow officers no longer cover up for them. With what we have today, there's no prosecution because they can't make a case when most officer crime happens off camera and the only witnesses either lie or refuse to testify. That's why I say they ALL need to go, and be replaced with new people who take the job knowing it's not a power trip and abuse won't be tolerated a whit. I also think they should have to waive their right to not talk, even self incriminate, in order to wield the authority they wield. I know it won't happen, but a newt can dream.

True, but the charges rarely go UP in severity from cop to DA, they go down. The cops usually charge the worst they can, the DA charges what's possible to convict on. In this case as I read it, the cops charged him with the lesser crimes, indicating even they didn't think he was being violent in the previous crimes (excepting arson).

It depends on what they tried, when, and how. If they reasonably try to diffuse a situation rather than escalate it, I will always support them, no matter the outcome. I rarely see or hear of cops trying that anymore, today it's all about using force to gain absolute control at any cost, IMO.

Because they ALL seem to stand with the obvious criminals, I can reasonably paint them all with one color until that situation changes. The few exceptions to that rule are becoming fewer and farther between, with a quieter voice than previously, usually silent. In my mind, that makes them all accessories after the fact to whatever crime the cop they support committed, a charge they must defend themselves from with evidence they did their best to stop/arrest/charge the offending cops (not hyperbole, not baseless statements, not "if" (something untrue) "then they're justified" logic) showing that I'm wrong if they wish to change my mind.

It makes no sense whatsoever that those untrained trained thugs only manage to kill 1/10 the number of people the 'trained, not on drugs, non thug' cops. That makes the cops the trained ultra-violent thugs, how can you continue to be blind to that?

EDIT: If 'fear for your life' is excuse for deadly force for citizens too, blacks and non-professional whites could justifiably kill a cop any time they get pulled over, since it's a totally reasonable fear that they'll maybe be injured or killed if they don't strike first. Not a good criteria in my eyes.

It's not about saying cops should always be able to avoid violence, it's saying the cops should not be the instigators or escalators of violence, they should STOP violence. Sadly, all too many are the violent criminals themselves, and all too many more stand with them in a blue wall, or said another way are accessories after the fact.

You didn't address my comment about the Bechtal test and the irrationality of moviemakers. I have the evidence of an entire industry being irrational. We don't know if she is a reliable witness or if she did some edited camera pans to not show all the white dolls without accessories.

As for the price differential, I work in a retail store. It happens ALL THE TIME that someone wants to buy something and says that the shelf tag says something different. When you go to check, the tag had moved or someone had misshelved something. We don't know if she is deliberately lying about the price difference or if it is an honest error.

Bottom line -- Our Generation does NOT make a little girl doll of color, any color, with their own storybook.

All white dolls all get accessories - Wrong(some do some don't)
Black dolls dont get accessories - True as far as i can tell (but its not JUST the black dolls)
and the prices are the same - Wrong (price of deluxe dolls are more expensive)

Although there may be a deeper question regarding why a black doll isnt made with the deluxe option this women is still stating things that just aren't true.

Cops are trained on how to act. They ignore that training, or abuse it, to act improperly.

It depends on your definition of 'civilly'. Most police contact is legally proper, that doesn't mean the cop acts civilly. From experience, when they think you've been criminal or non-compliant, police civility goes right out the window and the inappropriate violent threats, name calling, and angry cursing starts instantly, before the 'suspect' has a chance to react at all. That's why I was pulled out of my car at gunpoint and thrown violently to the ground by a screaming cursing officer when he misread my license plate and thought my car was stolen.

Yes, the vast majority of police contact is done properly....just as the vast majority of contact with murderers, rapists, thieves, and child molesters is done with proper conduct. That does not excuse it when they act improperly, just as the previous good conduct doesn't excuse a murder/rape/theft/molestation later. Duh.
Yes, most people know that if you don't cow tow to cops, kiss their ass, and allow them to violate you in whatever way they like, they'll further abuse their power to fuck you hard and you'll pay the price. (I learned that lesson, 'respect authority even when it's wrong or you pay the price', at 4 years old when my dad closed fist punched me across the room for saying 'NO', but being a learning experience didn't make his actions acceptable by any means). Funny how you turn violent abuse of power and violation of civil rights into 'won't make you happy' and assign the blame to the victims of abuse for not being subservient enough. It's a bit more than 'won't make you happy', dude.
It's not a 'small number' of contacts that end up with abuse and/or murder, it may be a 'small' percentage, but once is once too many, thousands of times per year is unacceptable by any reckoning. How can you ignore that? It's unconscionable. It's also near 100% of the time that the 'blue wall' closes in around the offending cops and protects them, so that makes you ALL accessories after the fact. You also know this well.
This guy could easily have ended up dead, he did not instigate or even participate in the violence. He was incredibly lucky his buildings security system caught the incident or he would be in prison for years to come, based on cops lies and abuse.
'We people' expect cops to act according to the laws they swore to uphold. We expect them to follow procedure and work to de-escalate violence, not to go rogue and act violently as a first resort, especially true when there's been no crime committed.
This guys behavior, sitting unarmed, without contraband, calmly and quietly, led to his fate, beaten and arrested over nothing at all, (for asking why he was searched in the first place, or contempt of cop, neither being a crime) and charged with serious felonies based on cop's lies. You once again put the blame on the victim, because it can't possibly be the cops acting improperly in your myopic viewpoint, even when it's on video. Fortunately it's a tiny minority viewpoint not held by many.

I see cops who are tasked with upholding the law and trained and paid well to do so, being abusive criminal bullies and douchebags with authority and 'immunity', and others ignoring that duty to support/shield fellow officers in that criminal activity, time and time again. Because nearly 100% of police act that way, as accessories after the fact at best if not actual accessories and in direct opposition to their duties to protect the public, yes, I think they are nearly all 'evil' and criminal. There is the rare exception of the officer that sacrifices his/her own career to do the right thing and report other officers, but they don't stay cops after 'snitching'.

I have a friend who was a Deputy United States Marshall at that time. He wasn't involved with Ruby Ridge, but he knew 2 agents who were. He told me:

"I knew two of the guys in the woods that weaver's son engaged. It was a mess from the start. If the dog would not have smelled the surveillance team nothing would have happened that day. It all ended badly. Stupid ATF case was bad from the start. Weaver would have been acquitted if he would have just gone back to court. Travesty of bad decisions all around."

The fact remains that it wasn't Randy Weaver's fault he didn't make it to the court appearance. It was all due to an intended snafu on the part of the Feds. They set him up to murder him and his family with extreme prejudice!

At the Nuremberg trials: Principle IV states: "The fact that a person acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior does not relieve him from responsibility under international law, provided a moral choice was in fact possible to him". This principle could be paraphrased as follows: "It is not an acceptable excuse to say 'I was just following my superior's orders".

In my opinion, the officers involved should be charged with first degree murder, and those who assisted the operation should be charged and tried as accessories to first degree murder. Until this happens, we will never again be "One nation under God." This travesty screams for justice!
