Who Saved thousands of jobs? Why, it was Obama!

longde says...

Did you know that Ford has also received HUGE help from the federal government? Why is it wrong for the government to help domestic industry. It's not like it's a new practice in the US, and it's not like other countries don't give their industries a similar advantage.>> ^quantumushroom:

I'd like to have a domestic auto industry IF it deserves to stay in business and meets expenses with profits from building cars consumers--not Chicago Jesus--want, not 50K rolling fireplaces like the chevy volt.
Ford didn't take any bailout money and they're doing fine. Plus how 'bout all those foreign car companies with domestic plants, sans greedy unions, building cars un-rich people can actually afford...

>> ^longde:
QM, would you rather have a domestic auto industry or not? >> ^quantumushroom:
Treasury Admits What Everybody Already Knew: Taxpayer Losses On GM Bailout Are Going to be Massive
Had Bush executed these erroneous bailouts (oh wait, he did!) the left would be howling about their obvious failure.
But let's say Obama did save "thousands" of jobs. The economic uncertainty created by obamacare has cost millions more.

Tough Mudder - A Run Like No Other

Stu says...

I just completed the TM in the Tristate this past november. I've never shook so violently from near hypothermia in my entire life. Run time Temp was 47 degrees. It was by far the most awesome thing I have ever done and it was the most organized thing I've seen. 18,000 racers going off without a hitch. The obstacles range from hard to easy. The 10k volt running field was a little rough with no shirt on but the race is definitely worth it.

It's also for a great cause. For anyone wanting or thinking about doing it, I recommend it 100%. The obstacles can look scary, but there was not one point in the entire race where if you needed help, anyone from a teammate to a random stranger would gladly help you under or over it. The camaraderie is amazing. Like it was said above, it isn't for the feint of heart. It is still at it's core a 12 mile run, so definitely get some cardio in before hand but you have alot of time to do it.

I can't praise this race enough. Do it! Do it now!

The capacitors aren't the problem as stated above. The CRT itself is a very large capacitor (stores charge) and can knock you on your ass for a long time after the tv is unplugged.
Also, she's weird.

Yeah, my old boss got shocked by the CRT discharge and his arm swung against the side of the wall and he got cut really bad. It has about the same effect has getting shocked by an ignition coil from a car. I had a similar situation while working on a tube amplifier (around 600V).
High voltage DC will basically burn you really bad (provided it has enough current), but unless you have heart condition it probably won't kill you. It will defibrillate you and wake you up though.
High voltage low frequency AC (between 30 and 1000hz) is deadly starting at around 45 volts. As you get into the higher frequency AC voltages it has less affect on your heart, and thus less likely to kill you.

I saw a chart once in physics class that showed the lethality vs. frequency of AC. The peak was at 50 Hz--right where Europe put their power supply.

I got bit by 277VAC 50Hz once--burned a 1/2 inch hole 1/4 inch deep in my arm.
(I wish we had the metric system in the old USA)

Police beat a man dead... again...

We just had a Teen tasered to death to Charlotte NC, again.

Last week was a rough one for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). They were deemed out of control by a federal jury who awarded the family of a taser-killing with a $10 million settlement. Then they went ahead and did it again. This time CMPD officer Michael Forbes pumped 50,000 volts of electricity into the frail body of 21-year old La'Reko Williams -- killing him.

These things are over used and leathel.
