How to Tie the 'Double Windsor' knot

I watch this video every occasion I need to put on a tie
Please don't. This is the worst double windsor i've seen in a long time (including my own first tries). Videojug has a pretty good clip. And if you aren't a short guy try using less tie for the "narrow" end, because otherwise your tie will likely end up too short (which looks even worse than too long).

Got a specific video in mind?

I'd recommend this one :-)

For the old-timers: Should Choggie be allowed back in the sift? (User Poll by gwiz665)

Talk about hyperbole.

OK, hyperbole is the act of taking a statement and exaggerating it to a ridiculous degree. Stuff like: "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse." Or, ""Saskatchewan is so flat, you can see your dog run away for 3 days!" Or, "I could time your hundred-yard-dash with a sundial."

Hyperbole has been defined as, "deliberate exaggeration of a person, thing, quality, event to emphasize a point external to the object of exaggeration; intentional exaggeration for rhetorical effect."

Brian Regan speaks well of the epitome of hyperbole and I believe it is worth seeking out.

VideoSift 4.0 Roundtable (Sift Talk Post)

kronosposeidon says...

As edeot already mentioned, I also believe nested comments would be great. The threads would be more interesting and/or entertaining if this were available. Other ideas:

1. I've said it a hundred times before, but it bears repeating: More video hosts. Here are some solid hosts that have had a presence on the internet for over a couple of years already:

- FunnyOrDie
- 5MinLife
- blip.tv
- MyVideo.de - Sure, it's a German-language host, but they already have many videos here.
- Current TV
- Reuters - hopefully that will encourage more world news videos

BTW, none of those are region-blocked

2. Fix Vimeo and CollegeHumor so that sub-Gold members can post videos. It's my understanding that they're unable to post videos from them right now.

3. Replace the iFilm logo with Spike TV, because that's what iFilm became well over a year ago. Go ahead and type in 'www.ifilm.com' and see what happens. iFilm is no más. And then fix it so that sub-Gold members can embed their videos.

4. Thumbnails, thumbnails, thumbnails! I'm not talking about thumbnails for every video site under the sun; just give us thumbnail pictures for all of our approved hosts. Right now none of these approved hosts have thumbnail pictures:

- Google
- The Onion
- VideoJug
- Spike TV (formerly iFilm)
- MySpace
- Yahoo!
- DailyMotion
- NBC
- MTV Music
- Comedy Central
- Hulu
- Game Trailers
- Veoh

In fact we only have seven out of the 20 approved hosts that have thumbnail pics. Those are CollegeHumor, YouTube, Metacafe, Vimeo, Break, Revver, and LiveLeak. If you want people to post from more approved sites, I think you need to give us more thumbnail pics. They usually boost vote tallies, as most experienced members already know.

BTW, both Atom Films and Comedy Central use the MTV Music player, so if you can get thumbnail pics for MTV Music videos then you should be able to do the same for Atom Films and Comedy Central, which are both owned by Viacom. Viacom also owns Spike TV, but they still use a different player than the others I just mentioned.

5. Get rid of both the hobbling and Siftquisition features. Like I said before, they're good ideas in theory, but in practice they've done more harm than good.

6. Give us the option to block any user from commenting on our profile pages. This should hopefully lead to less squabbling.

7. Put up all the unassigned channels for bid, going to the members with the most star points. We have too many unassigned channels, and many of those get misused because of this.

8. Provided it doesn't significantly increase bandwidth or other operational costs, give us a game room. The membership was in favor of it, so make it so, but ONLY if it doesn't increase your costs significantly.

9. Crown members get the privilege of prima noctis with probationary members, as God has ordained it our right.

How Do You Deal With "Trolls"? (Geek Talk Post)

kronosposeidon says...

Seriously joe, aren't you too young a man to be nostalgic about the 'good old days?' Listen to yourself:

"They were different times back then...better times with better people."

What does that have to do with the price of tomatoes? You don't like the new crop of members, so you mock cat videos that you would have posted yourself only a year and a half ago? Again, please explain your algorithm.

I've been here slightly over a year now, so here is a list of things I COULD complain about, if they really bothered me:

When I joined you could:

1. Crack the Top 15 if your video had a vote tally in the high 20's
2. Requeue videos for as long as you wanted
3. Give *quality points for Sift Talk posts, and they cost you nothing
4. ALWAYS edit your comments
5. And Dailymotion, MySpace, Yahoo, and VideoJug all had thumbnail images.

I could complain about those things every day if I wanted, but I don't care enough to even think about them. Plus many new, cool features have been introduced.

However there is something I will complain about, but there ain't a damn thing any of us can do about it: Members who have left. I miss (in no particular order):

CaptWillard
raven
rickegee
critttter
mlx
thesnipe
snoozedoctor
uhohzombies
intangiblemeg
persephone

And the list goes on. Some may have left because they didn't like the direction the place was headed, but most left for other reasons. If you miss some of your old friends, I'm sorry. Obviously I miss a few people too, and the place isn't the same without them. However there have been many cool new people who have joined after I came on board, and here's a few of them, in no particular order:

ornthoron
alien_concept
Zonbie
evil_disco_man
burdturglar
rasch187
gourmetemu
Sarzy

And so on. Life goes on, so it's time to move on.

One more thing about "can we have behavior rules" talks: They happen because someone crosses a line. Take choggie, for example. We didn't have any hard and fast rules about indiscriminately discarding videos because it just never happened. Then choggie decided he could play God with other people's videos, and he kept on pushing it by doing it over and over until we HAD to do something. The Secret Order of Unnecessary Rules had nothing to do with the clarification and enforcement of the discard rules. HE did.

Just like many new laws, many new rules often have to be introduced to close loopholes and prevent willful, destructive behavior to the site. This isn't a perfect place; of course there are flaws. But any time we try to fix them someone complains that "We didn't need such-and-such back in MY day." Well they didn't have stoplights back when the first cars hit the roads either, but then there was growing number of traffic accidents at intersections, so something had to be done.

God, I can't believe I spent my time writing all that when I could have been drinking.
