I don't think anyone is calling them unstoppable. There is just, as you point out, an unwillingness to do so. Internally to each warlord's zone, there is the inability to do so. Across the African Union, well, the majority dislike the precedent of unseating dictators for war crimes, so they are unwilling to help. The rest of the world is sitting far away, and comfortable. Our war hawks out here refuse to go in because there is nothing in it for them. Our peacniks refuse to go in because war is bad, end of conversation.

The sad truth is there are very few people in the world who both care about the plight of such people AND are willing to endorse intervention.

Look no further than Somalia. The world powers decide to use military escorts to distribute aid to the country fairly. A few US marines get killed, and immediately EVERY world power pulls out and leaves things alone. To this day standard warlord manuals clearly state that in the case of UN peacekeepers or foreign intervention, shoot 2-3 of them and wait a week for them all to go home.

I think these so-called unstoppable warlords that siphon off our aid is an even bigger myth. The United States of America defeated the British Empire, invaded Nazi Europe, dropped a nuclear fucking bomb on Axis Japan, sacrificed thousands of lives in Vietnam, stood head to head against the USSR during the Cuban Missile Crisis, landed on the moon, funded Nicaraguan revolutionaries using money from arms sales to Iran, assassinated Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, lied about weapons of mass destruction and invaded Iraq, fight the Taliban in Afghanistan, and yet we can't deal with warlords and civil wars in Africa where (at least with Rwandan civil war) weaponry is in the form of crate after crate of machetes made in China?

If all of those things are possible for the biggest super power in the world, how is it not possible to stop these warlords from siphoning our aid?

We don't care so nothing of real consequence happens. All of those above events have one thing in common: our own goddamn self interest.

Anyone could defend humanity with super strength, invulnerability, unstoppable force...Coulson doesn't have these powers though. He walks into the fight armed with nothing less than his steel clad will and a pair of balls that must be hauled around in a semi-trailer.

I would love to see that. I think most writers/directors had no clue what the philosophical/ethical questions are that a character with the power of superman has to confront. It's basically not the bad guy/ Kryptonite / magic which could destroy superman, that makes superman interesting. What the hell, NO superhero movie should be interesting because of the part where the hero could get hurt. In the end there is one thing we all know when we go to a superhero movie, the hero survives in the end, maybe we're cheering for the bad guy or hope the world will get what it deserves but deep down we know that the hero will find a way to stop the crisis. It's just the way these movies work. On the other hand what I find interesting, is to see what the hero has to sacrifice in order to save the world. Sure Superman will still be super tomorrow, but what about the rest of the world?

Did you see Watchmen? Great movie (ok against what i said earlier, in the end one of the heroes dies) but besides that, it shows brilliantly how to work with a unstoppable superhuman being and how to create a crisis that doesn't need something like Kryptonite/Magic to work as a movie. You don't even know/see the bad guy until the last quarter of the movie. And one of the Heroes (Dr. Manhatten) is literally unstoppable, I mean he can change reality with his will as far as I know. But even he is of no help at all in the given circumstances. You can say the biggest enemy of Dr. Manhatten is himself, I would also say this applies to superman. And I think that is what makes it great.

On the other side you can make a movie like "The Avengers" which is great as a action movie but I don't think it's a good superhero movie. I mean when i watched this movie, all i did was waiting for the grand finale. The final super fight where the avengers fight together. And what was it? Just a group of super dudes/dudesses killing one exchangeable alien thingy after another... wow great tension you achieved there... I mean in the end what is the great crisis they fight? That their own Bosses try to nuke them, because everything else was under control at that moment.

It does make great action material, but what I want to see (and sadly that doesn't seem what "the people" want to see) is a superhero movie (especially speaking of superman) where the hero has to fight more than just interchangeable aliens in a big CGI fuckfest.

Usually I would agree but in the case of Superman, the coming of age story is the only interesting thing you can do with him. He's an alien orphan with enough power to do whatever he wants. Once you've told the story of how he came to terms with all that, he's just a giant unstoppable boyscout with all the powers; maybe the most boring character in all of comics.

I might like to see a reimagining of Superman. Dial back the powers. Give him something to struggle with besides green rocks and wedgies. He'd probably still be boring as hell, to be honest.

So he can moonwalk, and if there's an obstacle, he can backflip over it...

Amazing! For some reason I've always admired the Mongols, they seem like histories ultimate unstoppable force, so it gave me a warm fuzzy to see their colors fill half of Europe at one point.
