We Completely Underestimate How Bad Things Are Going To Get
The problem is there is nothing we can do to save ourselves if we don’t prevent the current trends in climate change.
Becoming Morlocks, living underground and becoming C.H.U.D.S., is not a real option for the species. Living above ground with the hydrogen sulfide clouds after ocean death is not an option. Flying away to live in fragile bubbles on the moon or mars is not a real option.
If we don’t stop climate change before natural feedback loops overpower our ability to intervene (I think we are past that point today) we will not survive as a species or civilization, and the event will eventually likely rival the Permian extinction event for the title of worst extinction in planetary history.
At some point, probably sooner than we expect, there will be a shift in what the researchers are talking about... a swap from what we need to do to prevent climate change to what we need to do to save ourselves from the results. The response will be the same, arguments against doing anything because of the cost.
New York Nuclear PSA what to do in case of an attack
Sad that the article and @StukaFox both forgot the emp, that kills all electronics, making your car your tomb if it was made after 1980.
A car is only a decent shelter if it’s at the bottom of an underground parking structure that doesn’t collapse in the blast.
Cars are not escape vehicles in this scenario. There won’t be many erratic drivers, like the article claimed, because any car with a computer chip will be dead.
Not so according this article

Ameca and the most realistic AI robots. Beyond Atlas.
Big dreams, but remember hyperloop, the amazing high speed public transportation Musk foresaw?
It was going to be autonomous pods driving hundreds of mph through multi tube vacuum tunnels, now it’s Tesla cars manually driven maybe 40mph through small one lane tunnels, with traffic jams already on the tiny test track ride in Vegas during the pandemic with riders limited to well under 1000 per hour (<1/4projected capacity) costing $52.5 million for 1.7 miles of inescapable death tube…. so underground death trap roads at only 8800 times the cost of above ground roads.
Remember the Tesla semi truck? Sounded great. Turned out it had less than 1/6 the cargo capacity of similarly size trucks because of battery weight and a 300 mile maximum range new (quickly dropping as batteries age) for the regular version, and unless you charge at Tesla with guaranteed discount electricity it’s not even cost effective against regular trucks per mile, much less per ton of freight….and still not any on the road, now estimated to start next year…maybe.
Notice the teslabot doesn’t list expected battery life, which is the big limitation on self powered robots. All the ability in the world is useless if they need to recharge every 10 minutes.
Elon’s ideas sound amazing until you look at them practically, and find that his projections are insanely unrealistic.
Edit: in his genius, Musk lobbied hard against the infrastructure bill that includes money to build the American chip manufacturing capacity…and now his plants are losing billions per year because they can’t get chips.
Lake Oroville Drought, California
More good news. So much is being pulled from aquifers to make up for and combined with the loss of surface water that the water table is dropping (along with the entire central valley). This means that, as they draw down reservoirs to empty to supply downstream communities with water, much of that water goes underground because the water tables have dropped below river beds, so the rivers cannot retain and transport the water. This is just starting to happen, but is definitely going to have major impacts in the future, causing the majority of California's water transportation system to be unusable.
Time to invest in desalination.
Miami Beach condo collapse
My initial suspicion would be underground sinkholes instead. These massive sinkholes happen so often that I imagined one day it'd occure underneath a building instead of a road/parking lot. If so, the responsibility is mostly on the local government's lack of infrastructure maintenance funding.
Car makers sue to UNDO Right to Repair in Massachusetts
This is why I prefer M$ and Samsung over Apple.
Had fun replacing a Mercedes car key. Luckily the van is old so it only took a semi-underground repair shop that connects to a semi-underground server in Turkey (!) to get the key for an equivalent sum of 200$. The unprogrammed key sells for 10$ from China. Mercedes sells a new key for 600$. The programming itself takes minutes.
Now obviously someone in Turkey has the code to get into the van. So my security is compromised. But my anger at corporate bullshit is quelled slightly. If I ever get raped in a dark parking lot at least I will know it saved me 400$.

Banksys Pandemic Inspired Graffiti | London Underground
"Gettting up" means to paint your name places and get recognition. He "gets locked down but gets up again" means he was in quarantine but now he's back. That's why the work features an old school dirty drip tag. It's classic old school graffiti on a subway. - Reditor
I'm curious to see what happens to his work. Could be a nice little windfall for the London underground.
Here is the original London Underground video he seems to get inspiration from
STUNG by a GIANT HORNET!
Isn't that always true in any situation (like cowbell)? ;-)
You can buy mantis egg clusters for your garden from most nurseries, they hatch out by the hundreds. I buy a few every year, but rarely see full sized mantises (mantes) in my garden, and never new egg clusters. I did catch one a few Octobers back before it got cold and kept it alive until spring in my window plants, but I think they normally die before it freezes outside...hornet queens hibernate underground if I remember correctly. :-(
