8 Mind-Blowing Connections Between the Works of Joss Whedon

I'd enjoy these if they weren't stuck in the authors narcissistic presentation of unnecessary dialogue.
This is the internet. Get rid of the talking heads and give us the content. Anyone else remember hyperlinks? They were those magical things that said "subject" -click!- "information" Grah.

A few years ago this guy was a nobody insofar as the media was concerned. Then he started playing the 'baddie' on Shark Tank and the Canadian version of Dragons' Den.
I think this guy is borrowing a page from the likes of Ann Coulter and other right-wing talking heads. Essentially, they are media whores who know that controversy helps to sell their books, programs, lecture circuit, investments... their 'celebrity-ness'. So they say outrageous stuff because they know it gets them face time in our dumbed down media. How do you think it ended up here on Videosift?
Whether they actually believe their own shit... who knows?

Oh I am highly interested in this stuff. I watched most of the Tor vid the other day on YouTube and was going to post it but you beat me to it. To me this is more important than any other issue out there(besides "The War on Terror" and the drones). The masses should turn off their idiot boxes and their talking heads on the radio and be more concerned about this. Thanks for the info sir!

Yay, someone liked it.

If you're interested, all the talks that were held at the 30C3 were streamed/recorded and will be made available for download on a host of different mirrors, eg here.

I can only comment on the ones I've been present at, but I suppose "The Four Wars", "To Protect and Infect" and "Seeing the Secret State" might be of interest to you if you liked Jacob's talks.

It's OK, You Can Admit It!

I started out thinking the same thing but about half way through I started paying attention to the little ways each talking head tried to personalize their delivery with different inflections and slight word changes. After that it became train wreck fascinating.

Agreed, TV news is awful, but it was presented here as comedy, and for me, it just went on long after it stopped being funny.

Right Wing Media Needs a Science Class

poolcleaner says...

^ This idea that people involved in politics, religion and science CANNOT profit is dumb and is perpetuated by DUMB PEOPLE. They all do and must profit to survive in the civilization that our politicians over the centuries created(warped?!). "Follow the money trail" is a dumb red herring. The money trail leads to ALL PEOPLE.

I personally know a good number of pastors/ministers AND people involved in the sciences (both natural and social), as well as a couple people involved in local politics -- and you know what number 1 is?

Money.

Raising it so that they can live a life as a man of god/science, keep their church/research facility running, buy the things they need to do their job, and continue the time investment required for research.

IMHO it's the politicians and talking heads (in ALL political parties) who need it the LEAST -- because they're not trying to help people or increase our mental/spiritual intelligence as a species, they're funding a GODDAMN POPULARITY CONTEST; the cult of their political party and the cult of SELF. Oh look at me I'm Bill O'Reilly I say things that people agree with and I'm a freaking drama queen about it.

Television and radio asshats. Look at the pattern. Does popular opinion lead to proper behavior? No it leads to popular behavior. That's why we have reality television and that's why we have dumb asses running our media and our cuntry. I'm certainly not qualified to say shit but WTF, it's fairly obvious logic that almost all people ignore or just accept because IT IS DIFFICULT TO THINK CRITICALLY.

Instead of thinking critically and correctly, we concern ourselves with the social spectrum of our society, which is really just the art and pattern detection of social manipulation. You trick people. It's trickery and data manipulation. How can I raise money? Well, I know the people that watch my television channel believe this, so let's TRICK THEM BY MAKING INTELLIGENT PEOPLE THAT COME ONTO OUR PROGRAM LOOK LIKE THEY'RE THE STUPID ONES.

And here's the footage. Here it is. Learn. I learn. I say dumb things and I learn. Now YOU must learn. Science, bitches. Science. It isn't just a bunch of things made up to make money. All things require money, but the truth can be articulated without passion, whereas manipulators require it to push their ideas forward and when analyzed it becomes very apparent that that is all it is.

How the Apollo Computers were made

This is wonderful stuff. I love the presentation too. Long steady shots of the subject, with a steady stream of information and no fluff. No rapid fire editing. No stupid music. No cutting away to a talking head who will preview/sum-up the video every 60 seconds.

It's pretty clear there is some hate here and the judgement of charisma and charm of a person by someone who hates them is useless to any rational person. There are tons of talking heads I dislike, but they all have charisma - that's why they have jobs.

Catching Criminals with Radio Commercials

bareboards2 says...

It's worse than that -- the show "Right This Minute" is an entire THIRTY MINUTES of talking heads watching popular videos and commenting on them.

It makes one video at the end of a newscast seem okay, in comparison.

But only in comparison.

I was actually just going to post to recommend skipping just past the end to see the only newsworthy portion.

I hate this kind of format. No one cares what the talking heads think. Just give us the news and get your face off camera you narcissistic whores.

I know. It was the only thing that could get me to watch even 132 seconds of this "program".

Did this show bother you, too, as presumably someone who didn't know it existed until you were google searching an answer to the Giles question? (Dear God, please tell me this show isn't exported downunder!!!!)

Elysium Trailer HD

It almost looks like it was adapted from a videogame. And Deus Ex springs to mind though someone is making that one as well.

I wasn't that impressed by District 9, though the aliens were cool. The near vérité style was irksome and the documentary talking heads replaced much needed time for characterisation.
