BANNED TED Talks Graham Hancock on Consciousness Emergence

BicycleRepairMan says...

This TEDx talk was not "banned" . It was simply removed from TEDx's Youtube channel because TEDx found the content to be pseudoscientific and making unfounded claims. (After people had complained that they were) The TED brand prides itself on delivering inspiring talks by scientist and others, and the TEDx business is threatening to undermine that standard, as TEDx are events organized locally , so the quality assurance can be iffy.

TED/TEDx is in full right to decide whether it wants to be a platform for pseudoscientific gobbledygook or not. IMO, this was the right thing to do, and it should serve as a warning to TED against the woo-people who wants to spread their nonsense through TED. TED/TEDx should be stricter on who they let up on their stages next time around.

The Inequality Speech About The Rich, TED Won't Show You?

EMPIRE says...

on one hand his talk makes perfect sense.
on the other hand is so obvious, I stopped watching after 2 minutes because I was bored as fuck.

So, I just hope TED didn't do this for the wrong reasons. I'm attending my second TEDx next week.

The World's Best Recyclers Are Not Environmentalists

I think you're probably right—though the same could be said of any shitty job, couldn't it? (And there are *lots* of shitty jobs out there.)

It makes me wonder how long it'll be before companies start buying up landfills in America (on the cheap) to turn a profit on whatever they might salvage. I think it'll definitely happen at some point, probably when we realize we've been throwing away some commodity that's less renewable (and more valuable) than we'd thought.

And thank you!>> ^kymbos:

Interesting vid, but I think you'll find those people are willing to do those tasks because of a lack of alternatives. They weren't giving up jobs as doctors and lawyers to pick through garbage as a profession, for chrissakes.
And what's wrong with wanting to be saparated from our waste? Of course we don't want to be living in filth.
You've got some interesting vids, @aurens. Thanks.

A tour of Harlem’s gardens and history

"According to Worley, visitors are frequently amazed that places like the Wilson Community Garden exist in Harlem. Worley said she would expect that kind of reaction 20 years ago, but is more surprised by it today."

Yes they are not food gardens, but I think this attitude can be re-focused on badly needed fresh food gardens.

actually i don't agree w/ a thing this guy says
b/c nobody is gonna garden in harlem
but anyhow I love the attitude. promote best power point i spend today

Not the best TED.

That's because it's not really a TED talk. TEDx is an independently run event. She wouldn't get away with this at a real TED conference, because you aren't allowed to sell anything tangible in your talk, like a book.

People like Mel Robbins, Dr. Phil and their ilk mean well. The problem is that people rarely walk away from these self-help seminars, with anything they will able to use. You leave the talk with this fortune cookie wisdom, elevated adrenaline and a endorphin rush. However this wears off. You are then back to square one with the same problems and a wallet that is $200 lighter.

It's naive and simplistic to think that you can rid yourself of problems, with a slogan. Slogans that are ever so popular in western culture, that it's no wonder that these people have a cache of them, ready to disseminate at a seminar.

I have the impulse to down vote this video in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 .. damn I missed the 5 second rule. Sometimes practicing restraint and not acting on impulse, can be good.

Final thought: How she tried to distance herself from the other self-help charlatans (in the opening 3 minutes), was a touch of brilliance.

TYT: WikiLeaks To Expose Fox News?

GenjiKilpatrick says...

I'm fairly certain that would only make us feel much more frustrated about this whole deal.

It's not like the Quantumushfaces and Winston Picklefarmers of the world are gonna:
[even bother to] Read those documents..
Be astonished by all the lies and distortions..
Round up a bunch of fellow ex-"fox news loyalists"
Start a - "Take Back Our News" Political Action Committee

It would be business as usual for that ENORMOUS demographic.
They would lie and pretend and excuse it all away.
Wait for it to blow over and sweep the rest under the rug.

Can you even think of an independent, moderate group of people [with the wealth & time & power] that could exert enough political or economic pressure to back up Assange's threat?

CNN would jabber some about it for a segment then cut to the latest viral video.

Rachel Maddow and Ratigan and Cenk would ramble about it.

Tho they aren't organizing peaceful protests that stop traffic in an entire city..
or co-ordinating stadium sized TEDx talks about natural economics and politics and our we're developing as a species..

Or whatever it is we rational non-extremist human apes need to do to absolve ourselves of these assbackwards realities.

~~~
.. Maybe we could start a Videosift PAC.. ?
