Minecraft Is Just Awesome
It's like Second Life without all the furries and magical flying dildos. Whether that's a good thing or not is a matter of opinion, I suppose.
How long until Minecraft turns into low-poly Second Life, I wonder?
How (not) to make a fireplace in Minecraft
>> ^Sagemind:
Never heard of it before - is it similar to Second Life?
I was thinking the same. There's an earlier Java build here: http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp ... It's interesting.

Guild Wars 2 Shows Us How To Sell A Game
>> ^blankfist:
I'm still waiting for the MMO where you rape people.
Try second life...I'm pretty sure all sorts of crazy shit goes down on there.>> ^yellowc:
While it looks nice technically, I've always felt Guild Wars lacked the artistic touch, to me it's like "yeah those are great looking polygons but the world it self is kind of bland and typical". For as old as WoW is, its artistic style still carries those ancient graphics even today, which is an impressive feat. Though of course that's quite a subjective area.
Indeed it is, I've always thought that guild wars monster design and environment aesthetics have been pretty good - and that WoW has always looked (in general) fairly shit.
Real Hugs in Second Life!
This conceptualization of the baby-steps toward some form of efficiency prison of non-human makes one shudder to think of their children born into a future devoid of essence.
Second-life=no life.
Free Hugs on Second Life (Very NSFW)
Second Life seemed completely pointless until today
Patrick Davison and The Plight of the Digital Chicken
Upon first hearing about second-life, my initial response having never had (nor desired) anything to do with an online RPG community, was to file it in the lame/no-lifer category of the brain...Buuut I figured if the place was going to have any chance at all of having some actual life innit, I 'd have to create a character and see what was what. I had planned to be an agent of chaos, and see how long it took for the crowd of uber-dweeb, to run me outta town.....
I made a character, and he proceeded to walk into the ocean unable to climb out of the water....I left him there to grow gills, the shit was boring and pointless-Now I wish I'd have stayed around to join the chicken-killers.
Man marries a videogame
>> ^Sagemind:
Is the virtual world somehow tricking the brain beyond a reasonable doubt?
Is the human mind designed/evolved enough to withstand the brainwashing that takes place when bombarded with digital stimuli?
Online Gaming, Second life, Virtual worlds, Chat rooms and Communities all seem to be a form of digital crack that we all joke about but are we actually sending false signals to our brains that are becoming so real that we can no longer distinguish between real and virtual?
Like with actual Crack, our brains are being rewarded with Dopamine every time we succeed at a positive interaction withing this new world. The chemical reward gets recorded in our brain and somehow starts registering Real-world responses up against the Virtual-world experiences.
It looks like the virtual reactions and responses are starting to outweigh the real world interactions causing our brains to make a deformed choice.
... Just my ramblings!
You ever read Neuromancer? Eventually the wealthy (this technology will not be available to the middle-class or the poor) will have their consciousness stored in computers that are hooked up to cloning devices. Virtual worlds will then shift over to become the natural environment for these people, turning the real world into the unnatural.

Kool-Aid Man in Second Life
Graphically Second Life seems to have improved quite a bit since I last saw it. Though it is very inconsistent.
Kool-Aid Man in Second Life
wow, the porn has cum a long way since i last tried out Second Life several years ago
Kool-Aid Man in Second Life
See, this is why I don't play Second Life. I don't have a first one to begin with, I don't think a second one would help much.

The infinite mind with Kurt Vonnegut
Good talk, but god that second life is off putting.

Best Vonnegut? Haven't read enough of him. Not sorry for that. Means I have something to look forward to.
I've always been impressed with his ability to tell the truth of the matter. He made me laugh and he made me think. I felt like I was on his side. Didn't everyone?
I really enjoyed that 'second life' find that you posted. I think that's probably one of the last interviews he ever gave.
I just started...listening to dogs barking.
Actually I'm writing again and it's so nice to pretend to be someone else. I have two or three characters now in this (bows and prays) Che Guevera polemic.
It helps to sell your work, you know? But it's even better to write it. I think that Kurt said that in the inteview that you posted. The joy is in the creation.
