KUNG FURY Official Trailer - AKA Best Movie Trailer Ever

Chairman_woo says...

I have played Blood Dragon.....3 times now.

@9547bis 's point still stands. 80's revivalism/nostalgia has been with us before either this or Blood dragon (I'm pretty mad into my "retro synthwave" at the moment)

Blood Dragon has
No Nazis
No Thor
No "Hacking through time"
No Bright red 80' sports cars
No Vakyrie warrior maidens

i.e. basically anything in common other than being inspired by the cheesiest elements of a particular decade.

Plus Blood dragon while also being very very silly had a somewhat more realistic edge to it than this and draws more on war and sci-fi films & games. Rather than the broader action & kung fu film strokes in this trailer.

I'm not saying there can't have been maybe a touch of inspiration/motivation from blood dragon, but the material they have produced so far bears no resemblance to me of a rip off in any way shape or form.

It's like saying The Last Starfighter was a rip off of Starwars.
Last Starfighter may have been motivated by the success of Starwars but the resulting film felt entirely original (well as original as any standard format hero epic).

I think you'd change your mind if you'd played Blood Dragon.

Yeah. The logo (an 80s cliché), and dinosaurs (another 80s cliché). "Everything" indeed.

Has it occurred to you that two works both based on 80s B-movies, and therefore not original material, will likely share many traits, without having to copy each other (the Kung Fury project was started around a year ago, according to its kickstarter page)?

80s revival did not start 8 months ago. A number of retro music projects, rebooted film franchises, and B-movie parodies have been popping up for the last few years, it was only a matter of time before a mid/maybe-full length movie happened. Who's late-blooming again?

I hadn't even noticed that the loathing of this band had become so ubiquitous as to become cliché.

I'm pretty happy about it, though.

Really, I'm just so tired of all these retro-fetishist, nature-romanticist hipsters with their beards and their work boots and their flannel shirts, treating masculinity as an accessory because they honestly just don't know any better. They're all just perpetual adolescents who for the life of them cannot seem to figure out what it means to become an adult. So they try to find shortcuts.

Dylan was pretentious, but he was also a genius lyricist. Seriously, no bandwagon here, and I don't know if I'd call him the greatest songwriter of all time, but... he was good. Dylan was also highly political, and could be fairly incisive, while these confused little boys, all these hipster douchebags who seem to think that honesty can be bought at a thrift store, only ever sing about flowers and trees and broken hearts.

And they're all the same. Always. As a group, they are so homogenous that it becomes offensive to me.

I sometimes look at new games, and wonder if the developers have forgotten what made the old games fun... but you only have to look at the retro gaming and the home brew games to see that not EVERY developer has forgotten.

This would have fitted right in to the 80s, C64, Atari, Speccy, NES... it would've just seemed right on all of them
