The confederate flag is being removed because it represents a deep seated division of the nation and culture and an exclusion of non-whites from humanity.
The LGTB/rainbow flag represents inclusion, and a rejection of divisive and exclusionary (and deeply held) "values" that, contrary to the most important teaching of their religion (the golden rule), allow some to force their narrow puritanical ideas about sexuality on others by force.
Total false equivalency.

How about at the end the athletes unfurl rainbow flags and they all get arrested and thrown in a gulag.

A friend of mine told me that she was at a Gay Rights March on Washington. She stood on the Capitol steps and waved a rainbow flag. She was told that she couldn't do that, that only American flags were allowed on Capitol grounds.

When I was 15, I sat down on a chunk of marble at JFK's grave site, off to the side. A soldier in full regalia came over and told me that I was "sitting on his grave" and that I should stand up to show respect.

I am beginning to see a theme to these stories.

Sometimes respect has to be legislated, if there are so many different understandings of what it means to show respect.

Certainly there is a conversation to be had about whether it is even appropriate to say "this space is sacred". But why turn it into "Adam versus The Man"? It is childish and in my opinion, is a kneejerk response from a guy who has authority issues.

There are real problems with police brutality -- take this energy and instead highlight the brutality that results from our misguided war on drugs. Now that is something worth fighting for. This just diminishes the whole concept of "police brutality."

And bottom line.... this is just silly.

I'm not sure this guy could be any more stupid. Here's the comment I tried to leave on his site, but it's "pending approval" and approval doesn't seem likely:
"Using YOUR numbers, the abuse rate of priests is STILL higher than that of teachers (.52% priests, .43% teachers) . Per hour, a kid is SEVEN TIMES more likely to be abused by a PRIEST than a TEACHER! This is assuming your own numbers are correct (with an average 23 hours per week with a teacher and 4 hours per week with a priest) Please tell me about school administrators covering up for and moving around their pedophile employees. Oh, that's right, that's a job for catholic bishops. Catholic FAIL!"
Also, I love the way he implies that priest abuse is all gay, which makes it the fault of the evil homos, even showing a little rainbow flag under a priest collar. I think the many girls abused by priests would beg to differ. I'm not even sure what point he's making with the abortion stuff: abuse is the fault of Planned Parenthood? Wha.....????? Is it okay to abuse and impregnate a girl as long as she has the baby??? Okay, I'll stop. GRRRRRR.

Bull. I hope some MORE (thanks Skeeve) serving military members speak up about the professionalism issue and show that what you're saying is just plain wrong. You think everyone is incapable of controlling theirselves not to stare at people of their sexual preference in the shower? That's even more bigoted than your homophobia - if i enjoy eating "Marmite", and you don't, are you going to tell me that i'm obviously wrong and DON'T enjoy it too?

@Lurch - i think that, assuming openly homosexual men would get beaten for being homosexual, then this is an issue of professionalism and discipline wherever you are serving. I've never been in the military, so i'm not gonna say "this is how it should be", because everyone knows what should be and what is are often far apart. However i do know 1 gay dude in the military and when asked about it he just says that it's never been a problem. This is the British army, and i don't proclaim that all gays in the British army have an easy ride either. All i'm saying is, it's possible for people to be bonded and taught in such a way that they don't beat a guy up for being gay.

It's not like he runs around in a tutu and carries his gun with a limp wrist, is it? Or his uniform has a rainbow flag on the arm. No one bothers pushing him on the issue, and just like someone who practised, say BDSM, he doesn't consider himself special or different, and he doesn't march around going "HELLO I'M GAY!!!" (or hello i like BDSM). He's just a guy among guys.

And he doesn't stare at people in the shower. If that's ok with MarinegunRock.

I can't belive somebody could think that something named "gay" could be interpreted in ANY way not related to homosexuality.

Still, now that dotdude pointed out, I remember seeing a channel with the rainbow flag as symbol, and it was definitly gay. Well, I guess it's the same revamped, as lucky and/or dag said, if I didn't misunderstand.
