Pentagon Computers Attacked By Foreign Country

CaBhaal says...

For the record, personal storage media like thumb drives, floppy disks and CD/DVD-ROMS brought from home have been banned on DOD computers for a quite a while. The rule has not been enforced very well, but that is changing.

The most difficult obstacle in this part of the war is changing the culture. 99% of the people using computers in DOD do not understand computer security or view the computer as a weapon system just like a tank or a plane. Systems put in place to protect the network also tend to make things slower and/or less efficient. That means the end user sees computer security as a pain in the ass. Hell, even the tech guys see it as a pain in the ass.

Tech support? I got some plugin issues. (Sift Talk Post)

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

1. Have you tried turning your computer off and back on again?
2. Are you still using your DVD-rom tray as a cup holder?

Seriously though - I'm not sure, your Flash version sounds recent- my guess is that it is a plug-in issue. Try updating to the very latest version of Flash though.

Tried Chrome?

Out Of This World Last Level and Ending

entr0py says...

This was one of my favorite games too when I was young, thanks for the nostalgia.

If you are looking to replay it, it seems the best version is the Another World 15Th Anniversary Edition CD-ROM. The resolution is greatly improved, but otherwise it's the same. If you miss the blockyness of the original, then play the DOS version. The Amiga version is shorter (by one level) and is missing the soundtrack, so you might not want to go that far back. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Another_World_(video_game)#Versions

Also here's a video of the 15th anniversary edition. Seems they really kept the style intact, despite the improved backgrounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvZYWhiyM8Y

Oh shit! I remember watching this in Windows 3.1! I used this video to show off my new CD-Rom. This was the first CD-Rom game I ever played. In fact, I think this came bundled (OMG bundled software) with our CD-Rom. Not long after I think we purchased Tex Murphy's Under a Killing Moon.

This is part of computer, video clip, and gaming history. I was sharing this video before the acronym P2P existed.

If you can, can you add "automatic mario" as a tag please, that is what this type of Mario gameplay is known as...

It is also sometimes known as dda (don't do anything)

Edit: some more info. It took him 6 months. He has a link to the ROM patch file (IPS) with the Mp3's.

http://www15.axfc.net/uploader/14/so/Si_12102.zip The password in the first box is niconico and in the second box you need to enter the confirmation code on the right. Good luck.

24: The unaired 1994 pilot

budzos says...

Haha this really cracked me up. For me, the "early days" are right around this time: 14.4 modems; BBS accounts for $40/mo to connect to two or three 500MB hard drives' worth of content; having to create special boot disks to free up enough memory to run the best DOS games; and right around this time computer and game magazines started including CD-ROMS with free software and game demos.

Hey man. Just wanted to fill you in on Conker's Bad Fur Day.

That's a real boss. Really, that part of the game was mainly done just for the sake of having a gigantic boss made out of shit that sang. And, well, the whole throwing toilet paper into its mouth to kill it thing as well.

The game came out way back when on the N64. The video here is from that version. It's also on the Xbox and is called CBFD: Reloaded or something like that.

It started out on the N64 as a project in development called Conker and the (insert random lame kid stuff here). The game wasn't doing too well though. People didn't like it.

Then they came out of nowhere with Conker's Bad Fur Day. The squirrel that was squeaky clean that everyone had read about all of a sudden developed a taste for blood, profanity, and alcohol.

Since you own the game already, of course, you should download the ROM for an N64/Xbox(?) emulator. It's too hard to actually pay any money for, but it's worth checking out for history's sake.

Both versions pushed the hardware to the max. I highly recommend using an emulator.

The First Video Game Easter Egg

blankfist says...

I remember that dot! Wow, and after nearly thirty years I finally understand what it was for. Not being credited is accepted practice with programmers. Though, once I coded and authored a CD-Rom for Nissan's SER (Master of the Sixth Speed - the QT from the CD, created by MTV Animation), and if you quite the CD you're met with a closing screen. If you CTRL+Click the copyright symbol I believe (and maybe hold C down or something as well - it's been so long since I coded it), then you get a credits screen I put in there!

Otherwise I'd get no credit for all my sleepless nights!

Nah, I want to play a game where if I get my re-entry angle wrong my vessel burns up.
>> ^Farhad2000:
The reason for transition is game mechanics, who wants to play a game where it takes exceedingly long to land from space to terra firma?
Or it could be a high gravity planet that resulted in a lower altitude atmosphere.

Actually the re-entry game exists.
