Police "provo-cops" pester peaceful protesters

Steve the Redneck is Tased off His Lawn Mower

BoneRemake says...

That was a nice cop, But whats the deal now a days with tazing instead of just grabbing hold of em. I know cops have a tough dangerous job sometimes, I mean we all have seen the 1980s Canadian RCMP Knife training video; but if you cant take a drunk guy off a lawnmower who looks pretty wiry, you should re-evaluate what you do. Cant always rely on the tazer.

Police Brutality in Victoria, BC.

How to break into pretty much any hotel room.

Why Mounties Dress The Way They Do

Raigen says...

When I was wrapping up in High School, I trained for four months to physically hit the peaks necessary in order to apply to be a member of the RCMP. I wasn't going to let my diabetes keep me from it at all, and it was some hard, hard work.

Then the hammer came down when I went to apply and I was told that due to the cataract surgery I had when I was 10 years old I couldn't be a Mountie. It was a blow at the time, and to this day I still wish now and then that I could've become a Mountie.

Why Mounties Dress The Way They Do

5 year old forced off school bus miles from home

geo321 says...

Man. I hope that bus driver was fired. The driver, at the least, was doing the exact opposite of their job. It reminds me (I know this is a more extreme example) of the RCMP in northern Canada taking native people for being drunk out in the middle of nowhere and kicking them out of their cars. Needless to say in the winter in northern Canada that can be fatal.

Rising Folk Star Taylor Mitchell Killed By Coyotes!

Krupo says...

>> ^rich_magnet:
"One of the coyotes has been killed" says the news piece. Is there any evidence that it was one of the coyotes who attacked her? Doubtful, but law enforcement generally responds this way when someone is mauled: eliminate the animals that _might_ have been the attackers. Grizzly though this attack is, I would weep for the coyotes which are killed for being the same species as the ones that attacked her.

RCMP officers were near the scene and shot at it - you won't find a bunch of coyotes with bullet wounds in the park - they no doubt found the one that was wounded and initially wandered away.

Do your research before just gushing your random thought stream and wasting everyone's time.

Rough Police in British Columbia

Fair enough, but was stomping on his head really necessary?

Yes. He refused to obey directions to keep his head down. No cop with his gun out is going to reach down and do it. And a kick to the ribs is not uncalled for either, it means that again they're not doing what they're told to do. They're techniques to get compliance. There isn't anything excessive in the entire video, it's based on the suspects reactions and behavior.

>> ^kir_mokum:
skeeve: VPD (vancouver police) is know for using excessive for regularly and being, er, less than professional, so to speak. much like the abbotsford police in this video. just look at the Dziekanski case with is going on now.

You mean the RCMP? Yeah different police force too. Then again the VPD deals with some of Canada's worst shit heads on a regular basis due to BC's revolving door court system.

The Militarization of the Police Force

Mashiki says...

>> ^ant:
If these high tech stuff are needed, then just call in the military!

The military doesn't work well with people, even in Canada if you transfer from the MP's(Military Police) to RCMP you still have to go back to the RCMP college for 3mo to make sure you don't crack people in the head, and criminals have a tendency of using the same hollowpoint, or better yet AP rounds which seems to be their new favorite. The problem is, the average citizen has problems with APC's rolling down the street to deal with the average 'crime problem'. Let me explain a bit more. The military is slow to respond to 'criminal' activity, it's not their area of expertise. But on average up here, only about 1:10 calls for service are actually criminal related.

In Canada land, specifically out in BC, the cops aren't out like that unless oh they need to be. However, they do seem to be having problems with the gangs and other lowlifes, well...AP rounds? Check, armor plated cars? Check. Oh did I mention that it's not the police using them but the criminals? It'll be a bit before we see our own high profile shootout like you did down in the US but it'll happen.

It's not the police that get pressed into using higher firepower, it's a response to criminal action. And with that it becomes an ongoing escalation. But you can't kick it down without people helping you either, too bad most people would rather turn a blind eye to everything these days. And I can give so many examples of that, it's not even funny.

"Hello 911? I'm Being Arrested"

Texas police, creating crime where none existed!

I don't know about the laws there, but here, driving well below the speed limit is considered dangerous driving and is a citable offence.

What the old lady did at the beginning is perfectly reasonable though; it is recommended that if you are not confident that you were pulled over by a legitimate police officer then you dial 911 and the operator can confirm if they are actually police. I was personally given this warning by the RCMP.

Air India Flight 182 Goes Down

Sagemind says...

I will *beg for attention for this tragedy. Although this plane was filled with Indian passengers. Many people don't realize how many of them were Canadian. 270 of the 330 that died aboard this flight were Canadian.

Investigation and prosecution took almost 20 years and was the most expensive trial in Canadian history, costing nearly CAD $130 million. A special Commission found the accused perpetrators not guilty and they were released. The only person convicted of involvement in the bombing was Inderjit Singh Reyat, who pleaded guilty in 2003 to manslaughter in constructing the bomb used on Flight 182 and received a five-year sentence. He was refused parole in July 2007.

In September 2007, the Commission investigated reports, initially disclosed in the Indian investigative news magazine Tehelka that an hitherto unnamed person, Lakhbir Singh Brar Rode, had masterminded the explosions. This report appears to be inconsistent with other evidence known to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).[3]

Canada's Sikh community has put a great deal of pressure on successive Canadian governments to prevent a public enquiry from taking place. However, the Conservative Harper government, under less pressure from the Sikh community than the Liberal Party of Canada, launched a Commission of Enquiry in 2006. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_India_Flight_182

A very detailed report on this flight is recorded here: http://www.airdisaster.com/special/special-ai182.shtml

Oh, it's real. (to all those saying "this is so batship crazy it must be a parody"). Unless they fooled us all, which would just be odd.

>> ^Sagemind:
Actually the RCMP are the FEDERAL Police in Canada and operate in ALL provinces and in all cities. Larger cities in Canada require a City Police force to maintain basic policing but the RCMP are still there. In the larger cities, the RCMP take care of the larger chores such as as drug trafficking, gun laws, homicide, major investigations and more. They also take care of Security for the Prime Minister.

Not sure about the precise jurisdictional stuff, but local police generally do take care of homicides - I'm sure the Feds step in when it's a Federal matter though, but AFAIK in the larger cities the local police deal with almost everything, eh?

Interesting side-story.

I mentioned my Grandfather was an RCMP officer, back in WWII he tried out for the military and was turned away due to "Flat Feet" and joined the RCMP instead.

For one reason or another, Winston Churchill was in Canada, not 100% sure the reason, and my Grandad was the one who guarded his room.

Churchill saw my grandad standing outside his room, and struck up a conversation, eventually he said "Do you have to stand here all night to guard my room?" to which my Grandad obviously replied yes, so, Churchill turned to one of the servants and said "Get this man a chair".

And so, my Grandad sat at attention all night long

Fox News Declares War on Canada

On the flip side of the RCMP side of things, if you want to see our soldier's pride, just show up on Remembrance Day. Many of our soldiers are so decorated, you'd be surprised.

Fox thinks they engage in harmless banter, but what they have really done is insulted the many generations of an entire Country.

Us Canadians might be peace lovers but we're feisty, don't piss us off! (blood boils....)

Cheers, and have a great day, eh?
