BBC Panorama - Secrets of Scientology

Yeah you know who I've had direct contact with. Genocide victims...rape victims...soldiers with PTSD. And with that context of War and hate and death, I'm suddenly not caring of a little cult that people choose to join, and choose to stay with. If they are not choosing it then call the cops...if they are then it's not an issue I'm interested in. I'm interested in the priest speaking out for the poor who is machine gunned in an alley. I'm interested in the company knowingly spreading deadly chemicals where our children play and not being allowed to prosecute them. I'm worried about those who cannot defend themselves. I'm completely unaware of Scientologists gunning people down in alleys and using the government to take over whatever they want. The day that happens let me know and I'll be beside you. Right now though...it just sounds like they're of less importance than what I'm lobbying the government for and spending my time studying and worrying about.

I don't think anyone is claiming that Scientology is the greatest threat to human existence. That isn't the point at all. Some people are just saying they think it is a serious problem that they care about. I applaud your work with people who have suffered genocide, rape, and PTSD. I really do. I, for one, can't claim anything nearly as noble as that. But consider your attitude here being applied to those victims you have worked with. "Oh, you have PTSD? Well, I don't care because this other person got raped so I can't be bothered with you." "Oh, you got raped? Well, I don't care because this other person was affected by a genocide so I can't be bothered with you." I think you would agree that these statements would be abhorrent and absurd. My only point is that even if something worse exists in the world, a lesser problem can still merit attention and discussion.

Like I said in the preview of this Documentary, what has Scientology done that we should care about? I see here some people not seeing their relatives through...choices of their own. And a woman committing suicide...again a choice of her own. Really I can't find any proof that Scientology is responsible for any deaths whatsoever. So why should I care? Let them worship whatever they want with their stupid "All psychiatrists are evil" nonsense, it doesn't matter. Now back to my Sammich.

It appears to all who are reading your post that you have not had any direct contact with someone who has been affected by any cult (let alone scientology), and therefore do not care in the slightest.

Modern Warfare - Drone Controllers At Work

How is this worse than normal aircraft pilots? How much "blood spray" do they see from the actual aircraft? None of the gore reaches the people who make the decisions, so the only effect of "being there" is giving our guys PTSD and possibly a few bullet holes to go with it.

You won't see me celebrating the death of anyone, but I'm not exactly in a hurry to go back to carpet bombing either. If I were to die in war I'd much rather have a smart bomb land on my car than take a bullet and slowly bleed to death. I'd rather not die at all, but that is a different argument from discussing the specific method.

Pretty soon we'll have tiny sparrow-sized explosive bots that can take out individual targets. I'm all for it! If we're killing people either way then I'm happier with fewer "unintentional" deaths. Requiring guys to watch the entrails stick to the walls wouldn't change anything because they aren't the ones choosing the targets.

You know that delightful red spray that shoots out of someones body when a projectile traveling at high speeds hits them? Or the wonderful mixture of shrapnel, shit, and intestines when someone blows up? What about the arterial splatter that is caused by severing the Carotid artery?

Well these guys don't get to witness that first hand, they see it through a CRT or LCD there's no direct threat to their lives; unlike an infantryman. Who's to say that the target is legit? The boss, well how about that Milgram_experiment? How do you know you made a righteous kill? Because someone told them so? I'm sure that will put a whole new spin on the Nuremberg Defense. The fact of the matter is this, it's fucking complicated. Made more complicated by the fact that they are pulling the trigger from the comfort of they're god damned arm chair.

It's a lot like lethal injection. Lethal injection makes it easier for a killer to kill. Make no mistake about it, if you take part in killing someone, even if it is lawful you are still a killer.

But, it is noted that even drone pilots get PTSD, and for good reason. They get to go home like nothing fucking happened. In my mind that makes it worse.

Footage of what a predator drone sees, caution I didn't watch it all but someone probably died. It's liveleak.com after all.

Germans in the Woods

The concept of war is both terrible and fascinating to me. There are thousands of ways to settle disputes, but certain things are so important to us as people and nations that we can only come to a resolution by taking and sacrificing life. To me it is a testament to the sanctity of life. It is the most precious thing we can offer. Ironically, it is also a testament to how cheaply we value life, especially if our causes aren't just.

One of my dear friends was in Afghanistan and was ordered to open fire in a home, reportedly full of hostile, armed civilians. When he entered the house, he saw that the people were children holding guns. They aimed their weapons at him, and he had no choice but to shoot them. He later found out that the children had been holding water guns, spray-painted black. If the man in this video is haunted by that one memory, I can't imagine what thousands of veterans and soldiers must go through every day. My friend has terrible PTSD and his life is falling apart because of it. It kind of pisses me off.

Making a prisoner uncomfortable, afraid, freaking them out, or causing them to panic is a form of torture. BUT such methods cause no lasting damage, and it gets at 'the beans'.

I suppose you wouldn't consider PTSD as "lasting damage" either? Ask some war vets if they would trade it for physical pain... I think you'd be surprised at some of the answers.

As far as "the beans", you'll definitely get something out of them. I don' know much about interior decorating, but if I were tortured for information about it then I'm sure I could make something up to get them to stop. It may not be accurate, but it will be something.

Female Circumcision from the POV of women...

Bidouleroux says...

>> ^peggedbea:
the turning point came when i had to do a bladder study on 2 boys 2 weeks in a row, both were under 7, both had not been circumsized and both had chronic bladder and kidney infections. when i went to cath both of them their foreskins were filthy and crusted on, i dont think their parents have EVER pulled that stuff back and cleaned it properly.

WTF, are you an idiot? This only shows the mental damage American society (or whatever society you're in) has had from years of unwarranted circumcision : bad genital hygiene. The Chinese/Japanese/Indian/Latino-American/European are for the majority uncircumcised and lo, they wash their foreskin and don't get any more infections than the circumcised. And why would what other parents can't do influence your choice? Because they're so dumb they can't wash their child's foreskin you're going to lower yourself to their level and not wash your child's foreskin too? What if they jumped off a bridge, would you jump off too?

The generalized correct reasoning here is this: don't wash foreskin = infection. Wash foreskin = no infection. Everything else is pure bullshit (because as we all know bovine feces is sterile).

i interviewed all my male friends both circumsized and uncircumsized, and one friend that had not been circumsized as a baby, but chose to be later on in life, everyone says circumsicion. so we did it.

And so you're a hypocrite and a sheeple. Not surprising coming from an idiot. Ask a Sunni if Shiites are bad, of course he'll say yes. Ask an evangelical church-goer if atheists are bad, of course he'll say yes. It still doesn't mean their opinion has any value outside of their little micro-society.

he was 6 hours old, they numbed him and gave him a chocolate sucker to suck on. nowadays they circumsize babies by putting this plastic bell over their penis, it cuts off circulation to the foreskin and it falls off in about a week. we had no problems and he doesnt seem to miss it and i dont feel bad about it now.

Glad the experience didn't give you PTSD.

foreskins have been shown to carry disease and a contributing factor the aids epidemic in africa, but still as nature intended.

False, false, false, and you're an idiot. The "study" that "proved" a "link" between foreskin and AIDS was a "study" that looked at the prevalence of AIDS vs the prevalence of circumcision, and ONLY in some regions of South Africa. More that 30% of South Africans have HIV. Correlation is NOT causation, not even link. Do some statistics: you'll be scared by how easy it is to find correlations between non random normally distributed sets, which includes nearly everything that has to do with human life.

its also interesting since ive grown up in a culture of male circumsicion, im intimidated by foreskins and prefer that stuff cut off if im gonna have sex with it, all my female friends feel the same way.

Yes it's interesting, but not the way you think it is. It's interesting in the same way the neurotic women Freud psychoanalyzed were interesting : they were mentally ill.

how do the men feel about their foreskins, or lack there of?

Coming from a now mostly circumcision free society, we do not feel much of anything about our foreskins unless they give us trouble, like any other part of our body.

also, to this day the smell of chocolate dumdums reminds me of the day my son was born.

Proof of your neurosis? You tell me.

Finally, I think the Ancient Greeks had it right : a man is not naked until his foreskin is fully retracted. Maybe circumcision is why so many Americans are still so prudish regarding nudity?
