The Danish School Where Children Play With Knives

Gratefulmom says...

It's really sad you should feel that way. I understand what you are saying and in words that sound cool, however, at such a young age, most kids today don't even play outside anymore. Sure, you can argue that you can make them do it but that is much easier said than done. Young kids shouldn't be concerned with so much learning academically. They have plenty of years to do just that. Learning nature and how to be comfortable in nature for such young hearts and minds is essential to being a natural part of our planet. When your older, finding time to do this becomes more difficult. As the video says, after this experience, these children are ready to learn all the things you mentioned and they are happy, (didn't see signs of bullying either) and it helps makes them better people and probably healthier, mentally, emotionally, and physically. It's great about your daughter, however, balance is so important. Glorified day camp, pedophile paradise, so much judgment. It's Denmark's way of thinking that makes them the happiest country

Yeeeeaaaah... this looks like more of a glorified daycamp than a kindergarten to me. My daughter is in a "traditional" bilingual kindergarten now and she's already learned her colors, shapes, letters, and numbers in both languages. They've just started learning to spell and do basic addition and subtraction. She also learned how to use the school computers to surf the Net--approved sites only of course, so don't expect her to be Sifting anything anytime soon! Oh, and she LOVES school. The "pedagogue" who says kids that young aren't ready to learn is full of shit. My daughter comes home from school wanting to practice counting and spelling every day.

I think I prefer that kind of education for her future than how to climb tall trees (though I guess that kind of skill might come in handy if we have a Walking Dead-style zombie apocalypse).

And no one formally checks on these kindergartens to make sure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing? Fuck that. Sounds like pedophile paradise to me.

If it were a public figure or an elected official, I wouldn't have a problem at all with them being fired.

I'm not sure if that TED talk example fits exactly. She was a PR manager right? For someone in the PR biz, that was just monumentally stupid thing to say and someone in PR should know better so I find it hard to have sympathy for someone in that case.

But yeah, it's a blurry line to be sure. For me it's a very potent example of why direct democracy isn't always great and why it's a good thing that we elect individuals to make decisions for us to counter the mob with pitchforks mentality that large groups of people tend to have.

Could you imagine if we put EVERYTHING to a popular vote? Sure some things might become more progressive, but then crap like this would happen. Imagine if the decision to use the nuclear bomb was up to direct popular vote. Our planet would be an irradiated wasteland many times over.

The next time I badly badly screw things up through my own stubborn completely self-directed act of utter idiocy, and doubly so if it's in front of my spouseI'm going to boot up this video and breathe easier knowing there's a dumbfuckinger creature on the surface of our planet than I am.

EPIC View of Moon Transiting the Earth

ELee says...

This spacecraft is about to start collecting regular data on the energy balance of the whole Earth - an important additional set of data on global warming. Of course the spacecraft was ready about 15 years ago - but Republicans did not want it to fly because (1) they hate Al Gore, and (2) they don't want us to know what they are doing to our planet. ("Close your eyes and vote Republican!")

man freaks out holding door open

speechless says...

I can imagine it:

Beneficent aliens on a survey mission (the Kritchans) crashed onto our planet due to an unpredictable burst of solar energy. Stranded and alone, their ship destroyed, they were rescued by a local farmer. In time they taught him of their Kritchan ways.

The farmer now knows that in their culture, not holding a door open for someone is considered the ultimate insult. But they were hungry and desperate and had a coupon for a value meal.

They tried to just come in and order a burger, but people were rude and slammed the door in their face.

Confronted with the judgmental reactionary stupidity of mankind, our alien ambassador farmer friend finally freaks out and wrecks some fake flora in a fast food joint, facilitating the flight and future fury of our foreign friends. Was it worth it?

It's just a theory.

Quite true poolcleaner, apples and oranges with regard to the herd, but can you discount the horrors wreaked upon mankind by the foul beast gravity? Haven't you let the acceleration of our planet relative to our downward, weighted force off too easily??

This is obviously the best way to spend the money. We need this kind of technology to get better, so we can have that one extra second of hope that we can defend ourselves from aliens right before they bombard our planet with a human only killing gas bomb.

It's just a coincidence that we're reaching the age of serializing all humans and also destroying ourselves/our planet.

Is relevations specific to uniquely serializing people, or is it just "without the mark"... in which case you could interpret it in any day/age to be "some enabled group".

The human body is an expression of the planet. It is an insanely complex web of inter-relationship. All science applies - especially hydrodynamics. We're 70% water. The planet is 70% water.
and thanks for mistaking me as a physicist. that's high praise.
