Thanks for these, I'm glad you like the idea, I'll have more info about it posted in documentary talk soon.

Cheers

Anyone else think it was cool that Feynman was credited as a drummer?

In the video, the narrator mentions There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom, the talk in which Feynman asks "Why cannot we write the entire 24 volumes of the Encyclopedia Brittanica on the head of a pin?" You can find the transcript of that talk here: http://www.zyvex.com/nanotech/feynman.html

In addition, there's some extra information and a long list of recommended books, cds, video clips, etc. here: http://amasci.com/feynman.html

I *really* like this idea.

Feynman and Nanotechnology

drattus says...

I don't think I'll try to compete but the timing is interesting. CRN (Center for Responsible Nanotechnology) is having their first conference right now. Runs Sep 9-13. Might be worth seeing if anything interesting comes out of that.

Web page itself is here with info on them, the conference, and whatever else. Pretty speculative stuff in a lot of respects but interesting.

fullerenedream says...

"The fullerenes... are a family of carbon allotropes named after Richard Buckminster Fuller and are sometimes called buckyballs." (wikipedia)
Fullerenedream is a bit of a tribute to Tangerine Dream and Tryptamine Dream. It also vaguely refers to dreams of technology: cylindrical fullerenes are carbon nanotubes. "The strength and flexibility of carbon nanotubes makes them of potential use in controlling other nanoscale structures, which suggests they will have an important role in nanotechnology engineering." (wikipedia again)

In the end... I just thought it sounded cool.

really idealist though. gonna take a while before you can convince people that stem cells != human beings and that nanotechnology wont result in grey goo situation and that strong AI won't result in a skynet situation (if thinking of the transhumanist route). i'd give it over 100+ years

Eye-Opening Stats: The Global Economy and Computers

djsunkid says...

Space exploration will be much easier once we master nanotechnology, and can upload ourselves into computers the size of dust motes. When we're that size, it will be much more economical to send ourselves into space.
