Burt Munro's World's Fastest Indian Bike Started Up!

newtboy says...

His story reminds me of my racing years....no team, no budget, only a deep desire to go fast. While I didn't come all the way across the Pacific, I did end up driving farther than that in a few years, easy when races are 4-500 miles away in the desert somewhere, then another 100-300 miles tearing through it before driving home. I was the only lone wolf in VORRA (Valley Off Road Racing Association) for a few years. Good times.

Old cartoons like this are to new cartoons....What Lone Wolf Mcquad was to "The Texas Ranger". The original went to war with the cartels, from great distances with his sniper rifle, to close up with his Mac-10's, to murderous hand to hand combat. "The Texas Ranger" and his side kick shot their guns out of their hands

Leftists Will Carry Out Targeted Killings Of Republicans

newtboy says...

I'll bet $100 that the first political murder we see this cycle will be a Trump nut killing someone they decide is a dangerous lefty....and another $100 the right will shrink from it by saying he's a lone wolf crazy person and not a real Republican following the talking points to their logical conclusions.....oh wait, that already happened in Charlottesville, where's my $200?

I guess they learned nothing from pizza gate, and why would they, it didn't hurt them a bit when one of their own attacked a pizza parlor full of kids with his rifle looking for Clinton to kill because they told him she was there selling child sex slaves.
Jubus Fucking Christ. They're actually trying to start a civil war spouting this bullshit to impressionable morons with guns and hatred, and they know it. If you're politically left of Reagan, buy some guns, you just might need them soon.
*promote exposing the thinly veiled call for civil war if Republicans lose control.

Little Girl Turns Up and Dabs to "Jesus Loves Me"

"The Political News Media Lost Its Mind"

RFlagg says...

Just remember... while there is a Congress that *might* temper some of his proposals... there's no Congress between him and the button (and the fact that he has said he would not rule out a first strike nuclear attack against somebody in the Middle East and Europe... and he also might not protect our European allies if attacked if they haven't paid). There's no Congress between him and him launching an initial retaliatory strike for making jestures... No matter how bad Hillary is, she isn't ready to destroy the world and start a nuclear holicast the way Trump is more than willing to do. Also, the lone wolf attacks we've seen the last year or so will only greatly increase under Trump as he and his ideals, implemented or not, incite futher self radicalization, by people who won't need contacts, they'll just be upset that the US is targeting Islam as a whole specifically, not just the jehadist... and remember, it looks like he'll win as he is winning in states like Florida and Ohio... When those nuclear missles rain into the United States, remember, those voiting for him, you specifically knew that would happen and you chose to destroy the world by voting for an egomaniac that has no clue how to be diplomatic, who has no clue how the real world works... who thinks the world opperates just like a boardroom... or one of his appartments where he kept black people out...

I'm Not Scared of Donald Trump

RFlagg says...

The problem remains the Supreme Court. Ginsburg is 83, Kennedy is 80, and Breyer is 78... So the next 4 years is likely to see up to 4 replacements in the court. While Scalia was a conservative, and a conservative replacement wouldn't be overly bad, Ginsburg and Breyer, were they to be replaced with a far right justice... and the Republicans would push as far right as they can, would bring about the end of most of the progress this nation has seen. We'd see them retake on abortion and rule it out, gar marriage illegal again... all this is not only possible, but most likely with any Republican in the Presidency... the Conservatives know this, in fact it is the main reason they are going out and voting this election, even if they hate Trump. They will not only hold onto the lead the Conservatives have in the court, they will be able to tilt it very far in a Conservative direction that will be that way for a very long time as they serve for life (or until they want to step down). Every President of late has done 2 appointments (Obama would have done 3 had Congress done it's job and moved on his nomination for Scalia's replacement), and the next likely has 3 to 4 in the next 4 years counting Scalia. This is the long term danger... beyond the rhetoric making it far more likely for lone wolf attacks, which I'd put up with if it meant a better turn in the Supreme Court.

I'm Not Scared of Donald Trump

RFlagg says...

Some good points... However... The Supreme Court. Yes, he'll replace a conservative with another conservative, so things might remain equal, however what if something happens to one or more of the liberal justices?

No, I don't expect Trump to get his wall. He probably won't do much to trade, and probably won't be able to withdraw from NATO the way he threatens. He however might be able to get Congress to go along with a temporary ban on Muslims... even if he doesn't the very fact he threatens it, and got voted in, makes lone wolf attacks far more likely. It's not Trump I'm scared of, it's more the attitude of the people of this nation that elected him that frightens me.

Also I think it will be easier to carry on the revolution inside a Clinton White House... she'll be stymied like Obama is by the Republicans blocking everything too, but the change in the Court alone is worth swallowing the bitter pill.

*promote for his thoughtfulness anyhow, and I generally enjoy his other videos too.

Seth Meyers: A Message to Bernie or Bust Die-Hards

RFlagg says...

Yeah, I don't think they get it. This isn't something you fix in four or eight years. There will be way too much damage from a Trump Presidency to fix.

"Oh, so he's going to replace a conservative judge with another conservative judge", but that assumes there will only be the one vacancy during his term... there is a high likelihood that some of the liberal justices will quit soon... or die...

He will push executive powers to a new level.

He will destroy our relationship with our allies in Europe, and put them in more danger as he removes the US from NATO support in order to boost his friends in the Kremlin.

His actions against ISIS is exactly what ISIS wants to happen, because it makes lone wolf attacks far more likely. He'll be putting American lives, in our borders in far more danger.

There is way too much at stake to allow Trump to win.

It is far easier to build Bernie's movement with Hillary in office than with Trump. If nothing else, that is the fact they should be taking away.

Fox News vs Harvard On ISIS Turns Into Ignorance Fest

RFlagg says...

Got to love the country singer's straw man about Hitler and Japan and ignoring the fundamental issue of US policy in the Middle East and acting to protect oil interests over letting them self rule and work out whatever issues they have to work out. I understand the need to try and contain the fallout from the wars between the various Islamic factions (mostly Shia and Sunni) from spilling over to neighboring nations, but the US policy has been overt in serving US interests over the long term interests of the region since the 50's. The US solid backing of Israel, even in cases where it is clearly in the wrong, adds fuel to the fire.

And I know those on the right complain how Obama has backed away from Israel, though the evidence clearly differs as the US still refuses to tell Israel, to the degree we should, to treat people within its occupied zones with proper respect... and the fact so many Americans feel the need to protect Israel and favor Israel over its occupied territories no matter what, again adds fuel to the fire and shows those in Islam how under attack their faith is, which makes them stronger in their faith and more sure that they are on the right path, since the devil is working harder to put their faith down than any other faith... of course I hear this exact same argument from Christians all the time, how the devil is trying to put Christianity down proves that Christianity must be true... amazing how a little empathy would probably help world peace, but neither faith seems to have any... though I've seen enough FB memes about how Christians are so depressed because they have so much empathy and I wonder where it is, as I've yet to see any empathy from Christians as a whole. All of which digresses from the original point...

US foreign policy is directly responsible for the rise of ISIS/ISIL, whatever you want to call it... now ISIS has risen itself up to be a rather large threat via its actions, which are deliberately provoking, as it's easier to radicalize people when the world starts turning against Islam as a whole, as those on the Right are apt to do, than turn against the small segment that aren't peace loving. Of course the Right's preferred response to those provocations are to do exactly what ISIS has publicly stated they want. They want a large war against them, they'd love it if Republicans banned them from coming to the US as it would make lone wolf attacks in the US by US citizens more prevalent, which like they did with Miami (the shooter himself pledged allegiance to ISIS, but he also pledged allegiance to Hezbollah, which is fighting against ISIS)... Republican policies, especially those of Trump and Cruz are so on point with ISIS desires, one has to wonder if they themselves are tied with ISIS interests, or if they are tied to military interests that profit off continuing the war and sacrificing American lives in the name of war profiteering... but Republican Jesus said "Blessed are the warmongers and the war profiteers and cursed be the peace makers"... It was there on the Sermon on the Mount when he also said, "Blessed be the rich employer who pays his employees poorly, and cursed be those employees who are poor and needy and needing assistance. Surely I say unto you, if you give tax breaks unto the rich and cut benefits for the needy and the poor, I shall bless your Nation... oh and forget the sick and dying, they got themselves into their mess, they are responsible for getting out, only the well to do shall have healthcare." Again I digress though...

Where the New Mad Max Movie Fits in the Mad Max Timeline

newtboy says...

There's a LOT of things ignored in his theory.
Most important to me is the ridiculous 'lone wolf=interceptor' theory. They are no where near the same thing, with no possibility of turning one into the other even if he found another totally undamaged interceptor body, which is another impossibility in the post apocalyptic wasteland, he had the LAST of the V-8 interceptors, more to scavenge from simply don't exist.

It's not the same Max, clearly. Just consider the flashbacks to his child being killed....not the same as what happened to Mel Gibson's family in the first movie at all.

The idea that Fury Road is an imaginary re-telling of a story of Max by a third party makes some sense, and would explain a lot of the inconsistencies, like the interceptor existing and Max looking 'wrong'. Really, to me, that's the only explanation for all the inconsistency issues....it's a poorly remembered, highly embellished, third party re-telling of a story about the real Max, nothing else makes any sense to me.

Rainbow six Siege gives me sexual feelings!

Chairman_woo says...

Speaking as someone who played since the original I completely get where you are coming from.

But, this is easily the most R6 a game has felt since raven shield and once you start to learn the maps and build up a team the planning stage kind of comes into it's own.

I know it's not the same as spending hours tweaking the plan alone (before watching your AI sqaud mess it up). But the tactical depth is very much still there.

Terrorist hunt on realistic difficulty is the equal of any challenge I had in the old R6's, more so really considering the destruction and tools available.

A game with a good team, scouting with drones and breach/sweeping together feels every bit as tense and cerebral as before IMHO.

The only big downside is you need other players, there is a lone wolf mode, but no AI teammates regrettably.

Grabbed this the other night before looking and was extremely bummed to find it was an online game. I miss the tactical planning and squad control of the old R6 games.

So, you liked Kill Bill?

9547bis says...

If you liked Suzuki's visuals and cinematography, I can only recommend Tokyo Drifter, a Yakuza movie that was a kind of pioneer in perverting the codes of the genre.

If you like 60s Japanese period flicks with a Sergio-Leonesque take on the Samurais genre, Suzuki also made a couple, but in that case do also have a look at Kenji Misumi's work, better known as the director of the original Zatoichi The Blind Swordsman, and of course as the main director of Lone Wolf And Cub, a.k.a Baby Kart. The two first movies were kind-of-butchered, re-cut and re-dubbed as "Shogun Assassin" in the USA; but the real thing is six movies long, and all of them are worth it in my opinion.

That was one of the most amazing pieces of film I've ever seen.

Mountain biking with no chain

newtboy says...

In off road racing (which I used to do), equipment failure was really usually more of an issue than driving speed. Something broke in almost every desert race I ran, it's not letting that stop you that the sport was all about, even more so when you are a lone wolf racing team (one man driver/owner/mechanic-no pit crew). I have to think the same goes in mountain biking.

Asmo said:

Where do you stop? Tyre goes flat half way down, re-run. Front fork breaks, re-run. Brake breaks, re-run.

Same with most race type disciplines (eg. rally cars), equipment failure is just part of the sport and everyone has to deal with it.
