Smilentology - Because Lord Xenu wants to blow up your teeth

ReverendTed says...

I'm a dentist, and our office occasionally gets these "newsletters" from a "Management Consulting" firm that sometimes has articles about L. Ron Hubbard and his "revolutionary" approach to management. A little research on the firm behind the newsletters revealed it to be a member of WISE. As it turns out, the Wikipedia page on WISE has an entire section devoted to Dentistry.

Hello, Scientology. We are Anonymous. (LULZ forthcoming)

fleetze says...

Whether you're right about L. Ron Hubbard's motives or not is irrelevant. Considering most religions are equally absurd, I find no special reason to force Scientology to pay taxes while exempting other religions.

I happen to be against tax exempt status for religions, as most of the major ones continue to dabble heavily in politics with contributions to politicians and business interests.

I will say though, that it is interesting that they claim to have helped all those people, the 911 workers etc... because up until now, I can't say I've ever heard of any of these initiatives (but then again I don't watch Oprah, or, ugh, Entertainment Tonight). I'd always thought of them as never giving back in anyway and I've kind of held that against them... also, I wonder how true any of these claims are... I DEMAND EVIDENCE!

I mean, how can I not? I just saw these people saluting a gigantic image of L. Ron Hubbard!

I'm a street sweeper, but I have less influence than a housewife? Who made that rule?

I guess they couldn't use acronyms for street sweeper, cause "SS" wouldn't have looked good in the L Ron Hubbard encyclopedia under "occupation".

It's a Privilege to Call Yourself a Scientologist

>> ^grubert:
SP = Suppressive Person: An enemy of the Scientology. As L. Ron Hubbard puts it, "SP Order. Fair game. May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed."
PTS is a "Potential Trouble Source", someone in contact with an SP. Maybe that's what Cruise is referring to when he mentions PTSP.

That's some scary shit... and you know what, all of us, everyone one of us who has commented on this vid, or voted for it, is now a Suppressive Person... get ready to hand over your property and be beaten by Scientologists... I, for one, am sure they can't wait to get their hands on all my comic books! Bastards!

Thanks for the link Trancecoach. To be fair to Cruise, he was probably bonkers before he joined the Scientology. Also celebrities who endorse the CoS don't get to see the sect-like side of the organization and receive proper psychological help if they need it, as they are extremely valuable to them.

Battlefield Earth - Travolta's career down the tubes

gorgonheap says...

*terrible because: Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000 is a 2000 film adaptation of the novel of the same name by L. Ron Hubbard. The film is produced by and stars John Travolta. It was a notorious commercial and critical disaster and has been widely criticized as one of the "worst films ever made"

Battlefield Earth - Travolta's career down the tubes

Cronyx says...

I thought it was alright. It doesn't have anything to do with Scientology though. The movie Battlefield Earth is based on some of L. Ron Hubbard's earlier works. Granted, Hubbard is also the founder of Scientology (which is just crazy), but the two have nothing to do with eachother. Being a scifi author, he wrote the stories that were the basis for Battlefield Earth well before Dianetics. So, what does Battlefield Earth and Scientology have to do with eachother? Except for the fact that they were authored by the same person, nothing.

Just to clarify:
Scientology is laughable.
L. Ron Hubbard was a conman (but a pretty good one considering how much money he made off lying to people).
I didn't think Battlefield Earth was such a bad movie.

Self-Induced Religious Fit

azorielios says...

"Atheism - A belief system that condemns all others as wrong and works fanatically to destroy those who oppose their beliefs even to the point of trying to pass legislation outlawing their constitutional right to free speech and constitutional right to freedom of religion."

Please. Your talk of persecution is the kind of thing said by someone who hasn't actually experienced it. No one is trying to outlaw Christianity, not in Europe or the Americas.

The only thing, in fact, that people are trying to do is maintain the seperation of church and state. I'm sorry you can't have the Ten Commandments in front of your school, courthouse, or other institution, but that's kinda how things were written to begin with. The US is not a Christian country, my friend - it is a country of multiple religions, and the only way you're getting your Ten Commandments is if others get their Wiccan Ried, or quotes from the Koran, or the words of the Torah, or even L. Ron Hubbard's words on Scientology up there as well.

I don't have a problem with Christianity. I have a problem with Fundamentalism, be it Christian, Islam, Buddhist or Shinto.

Hey! Did he just compare L Ron Hubbard to Buddha? That blew me away, buddha is jolly and happy drinking his tea, does hubbard have thousands of years of devotion from his followers? I heard they like to kill and harass people who oppose Scientology. I wonder if Buddhists would kill any one for opposing them. That would have made me walk out of this place.

Any one remember the episode of cowboy bebop with the cult that gains its followers through virtual reality? This reminds me of that a lot.

Dianetics! Cures cancer, lost senses, allows floatation...

bamdrew says...

Dianetics is, in short, the mental health ideas that Scientology was designed to support. Written by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard around the 1950's.

Was going to post a scarier clip, but this one is interesting... mostly since its, you-know, a book,... and possibly also the act of being 'audited' by some random jag-off.
