The Man Who Accidentally Killed The Most People In History

luxintenebris says...

kinda makes a body wonder doesn't it?

how much lead could have lead to one's suppressed mental functions?

what could have been?

am no velvet tam wearer, but certainly not red mad hatter material.* maybe should be proud of what little there was to work with. a little less embarrassed about what didn't go right either.

maybe if this was known, would have given license to beg off father's "WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!"

"Sorry Pops. All that lawn mowing must have affected your son too much."

But then...WTF is the excuse for Twitter?

*mad as a hatter. mercury nitrate.

My first job was when I was 14 at the town newspaper at the end of my street. They had a machine called a Linotype. (line of type)

It made type ingots from lead which would print text after being inked up and then pressed onto paper. Sometimes my job was to clean the ink off them and put them into buckets so they could be melted down and used again. My hands would be coated with lead.

I also handled lead type in high school for two years.

Guess I should get tested eh?

When it comes to memory issues, I've had a bad memory for as long as I can remember.

You can see the lead bar hanging on the machine.

You don't know 'You'

I think “there’s a show called “you” on Netflix WAS informing her the title of the show was “you”, and she knows damn well her show is not on Netflix.

The problem is they’re not JUST idiots (proven time and time again, not just here) they’re insanely narcissistic, so even when you say “not you, a show called “you” on a network you aren’t on” they think “he’s talking about me and my show”.

Kinda a Q: “who’s on first”…A: ”so Laura Ingraham is on first?”

This has to be a bit. He could have easily informed her that the title of the show was "you". I think many of us just love the idea that everyone at Fox is an idiot.

TLDW after 8 min. So what you're trying to say is cut off 20%. Did he really need to explain how to do the math? I was hoping for the physics of why 20% is the number. Seems more like a guesstimate that kinda works, most of the time.

Jordan Klepper Takes On Canadian Truckers | The Daily Show

bcglorf says...

@newtboy,

??? How exactly do you figure cancellation of a billion dollar project is no where near the economic cost of blocking a border crossing for awhile at similar cost???

I'll tell you what the difference in Canada is, the dollars lost from the pipeline were being lost in Alberta, the dollars lost from the convoy were in Ontario. In Canada we've got a pretty sad history of if it happens to western provinces, it doesn't matter. Much like the urban/rural divide in the US. The response is pretty similar as well, the urban side just laughs at the loss of the stupid backwards country folk. When the same thing hits them though it's a national emergency.

I've tried pointing out costs and your just rejecting them out of hand , while whole hog accepting the highest estimates for the convoy cost as gospel truth. Like the literally a company walking from a multi-billion dollar project and you insist that's nothing and the days the border was blockaded clearly must have cost more...

For years now I've insisted that illegal blockades of worksites, job sites or trade routes should be met with prompt arrests and re-opening of the route/site.

Until January of this year, the entirety of the Liberal minded half of my country(Ottawa centric) called that authoritarian, repressive and were against the notion. Now I find myself in a weird spot, as suddenly that same crowd DOES want that action and more to be taken promptly. And the conservative crowd that agreed with me before is now kinda walking things back.

Texas Cop Vapes Confiscated Weed on Cruiser Camera

newtboy says...

Case and point,
If you haven’t seen it yet, this fresh on the job good cop got strangled for stopping her sergeant from pepper spraying a handcuffed suspect already in the cop car….as she was instructed to do.
He’s finally on vacation as of late January (the event happened on November 19, and his supervisory duties were temporarily suspended) and his union is standing by him 100%, as is the police commissioner, whining that the mayor called the sergeant’s actions disgusting, outrageous because he’s not convicted of a crime, and in the same breath whining “ The fact that was a 911 call came over of a piece of shit beating up somebody, and then this is how it all started. That’s the sad part about this. It got thrown onto this and spun in a way so ridiculous right now, it is like beyond,”.
It’s the third official report of his being unnecessarily violent.
Right, ridiculous to investigate a cop on videos committing felony assaults.

Kinda odd they aren’t standing with the cop that stopped a violent abuse of power, and instead back the out of control violent cop that attacked her on camera.

Here's an example that if the world operated the way Bob suggested I think this trans athlete would demolish the ladies if forced to play in the league for the gender on their birth certificate.

So what he's really tryin to say is that trans athletes shouldn't be allowed to compete at all because they are unworthy of any kind of human dignity.

He's also assuming that testosterone = winning

Most People Don't Know How Bikes Work

fuzzyundies says...

In my M1 (motorcycle endorsement) class, we learned this as "breaking the plane". There's a lot more force involved so you kinda have to consciously do it above a certain speed. Knock the front wheel in the "wrong" direction so that the bike falls into the turn in the direction you want.

Blooper in 2 I LOVE LUCY Eps. That U Probably Never Noticed

lucky760 says...

I mean... yeah, the ledges are different, but kinda... "so what" is how it strikes me.

Major blooper? Huge error?

Nah, not really. They just adjusted the set to match the story they'd written instead of adjusting the story for the sake of continuity to match an episode from several years earlier.

In any case, I'm happy to see people talking about I Love Lucy.

The Big Misconception About Electricity

bcglorf says...

This is also a trick question, and in a way that I kinda dislike because it additionally confuses matters by the setup.

Specifically, any change to the electrical field in the wire triggered by something like flipping the switch IS always limited to propagating at the speed of light, and as such WILL take 1s to travel the ~300,000km through the wire.

There's a bait and switch here though, were if the wires are close enough, and the power on the wire is high enough, there is a strong enough magnetic field in the wire to reach across the 1m distance to the end of the wire by the light bulb. That magnetic field will induce a very small electric field on the wire as well. Calling that 'lighting' the bulb though is 100% a trick question though as no existing light bulbs are sensitive enough to light up from that little current unless the 'live' side of the wire is both in very close proximity and running very high voltage.

The part I dislike, is too many people believe that electricity running in a cable is 'faster' than light, and the trick here kinda re-inforces that rather than helping to clear that up for people.
