Did you play the expansion pack? I didn't bother with it cuz I heard I wouldn't be missing much. Did I? Didn't seem worth an additional $30 bucks for four more hours of gameplay and little plot development.

Karaidl, I couldn't agree more about FEAR's 'John Woo' style. Also, it's hard to find a game out even still today that can match just how fun the AI was, with their really smart tactics. But it's short-end, in my opinion, that it became too much of a pattern of the same two formulas. Like, there were two different games in one, one that was a smart tactical shooter, and one that was a ghost horror game. It got to the point where it was basically "Okay, this part is a shooter, so I can expect nothing scary to happen here", "This part is scary, so I don't have to expect any bad guys coming around to kill me anytime soon". Over and over, without mixing it up too much. Too formulaic.

Omnithrope, I asked the same question, and realized that Silent Hill being number one meant it's sequels as well. I think when it comes in terms of Resident Evil and Silent Hill, they're just picking the first one to represent the entire series.
Also, I never played AvP myself, but I showed the same doubts to a friend of mine. And all he had to say was "No man, it DEFINITELY deserves that spot." It wasn't the fact that you couldn't hear them. It was more or less the fact that the entire Marine campaign you were completely on edge about whether or not something was actually going to come after you. I heard that no other game has ever been able to create such a nerve-racking atmosphere.

F.E.A.R. was definitely creepy, but not as scary as the rest of these. Nothing in the game meant to be scary could actually kill you and the jolts were great but far between. The John Woo action style ROCKED, though.

John Woo?
Max Payne 2 Equilibrium Mod - Really Cool Gameplay
I was thinking of old John Woo's movies.
.and the award for realistic gunplay in a motion picture....
...a rope tied to a stunt man's waist perhaps, makes for a realistic attempt by the filmmakers, to mimic the effect of a shotgun blast at that range....would agree, that through that wall, even with both barrels pulled with slugs, it may not be as dramatic, But.....mr. simian, the FPS of what comes out the end of a 12-gauge boomstick at close range, would lift a person off their feet and then some, at close range, beg to differ-
Also gotta say, that what may have played a subconscious role inspiring this post and the john woo, were the days events at Virginia Tech....my heart goes out to the bereaved,...a tragic sign of the times in which we live....we will probably find out shortly, that the perpetrator was a social outsider, emotionally isolated and lonely, and that had a bat been his weapon of choice once he had made his mind up, that folks would have died as well, guns, their availability and calibre once again, not the culprit....
Face/Off (1997) - Action Classic
Great choice DD, John Woo knows how to do over-the-top.
Wild at Heart: Love Me Tender
That's a good way of putting it. Now, in John Woo, that's over the top, but here from the mind that brought you bleeding cornish game hens, it's just right.
