What is the Second Civil War

shinyblurry says...

Please don't count my lack of condemnation in this instance as an endorsement. I am sure there is plenty to call Jim Bakker on. I know he did some very despicable (and illegal) things in the 80s and 90s. He supposedly repented of them but I haven't investigated to see whether that is true or not. I definitely wouldn't trust his theology after watching this video.

The disturbing nature of the video is a phenomenon we in the church call "Charismania". It comes from the charismatic church, which has largely become apostate from biblical Christianity by embracing experience over truth. Many of them do nothing else but follow around people like Rick Joyner to hear tell of some new vision or to have a supernatural experience in one of his meetings. I know you don't believe in the supernatural, but they are having a supernatural experience when you see them flop all over the place and jerk spasmodically. It's a real experience but it isn't from God.

I would never recommend anyone listen to anything like this. Instead, people need to systematically learn the bible for themselves so they can evaluate these sorts of claims and recognize them for what they are.

You're going to have to explain how you think Christian teachers should be evaluated by scripture, yet you don't condemn Jim Baker. He has been a charlatan his entire career, swindling mostly the elderly to make his fortune and live the high life.

So much for keeping temperature rise below 2 degrees above preindustrial averages (or even the Paris 1.5 degree goal) being "safe". We're at 1.2 degrees and rising last year, and it seems like Ragnarok is upon us.
This is pretty good evidence that the anthropogenic extinction event is well under way, not something to fear might happen in a dystopian future. Both the natural food web and agriculture are dependent on insects. A 3/4 reduction is probably at or beyond the tipping point.
This business is going to get out of control, and we'll be lucky to live through it.
Fuck. We all better call up Jim Bakker for some apocalypse food buckets quick.

Rest Now, My Warrior (Doctor Who)

Actually, it's today's so-called "Doctor Who" and the whole point of using a barrel with a plumber's helper was to save money. I don't know what Jim Bakker has to do with it, though. I suppose you just forgot to check the sarcasm box.

It hasn't been much of a show since Jim Bakker. Whenever they left using one's imagination for computer enchanced effects, the whole idea of Dr. Who was violated and demeaned. The whole point of using a barrel with a plumber's helper, and all that, was to engage the viewer's imagination; not the pablum and puerility of today's so-called "Dr. Who".

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Glenn Beck is not losing his sanity. It may seem like it because he's a miserable actor, but he's just playing to the idiots in his audience. His "crying" was the absolute worst display of crocodile tears since Jim Bakker apologized for getting caught paying off that gal he raped. Someone should tell him if he's going to act like a bitch on TV, the least he could do is learn to act convincingly.

The Wikipedia has track of him till 2003...

In January 2003, Bakker began broadcasting the New Jim Bakker Show at Studio City Cafe in Branson, Missouri, with his second wife, Lori Graham Bakker, whom he married in 1998. He denounces his past teachings on prosperity, saying they were wrong. In I Was Wrong, he reveals that the first time he read the Bible all the way through was in prison, and that it made him realize he had taken certain passages out of context--passages which he had used as "proof texts" to back up his prosperity theology teachings.
