"We won't let the terrorists change the way we live our lives." -- Almost every politician right after something happened.

"Here's the list of things you have to give up in order for us to be able to meet the new threat." -- Same people 24h later.

Case in point, David Cameron:
"In our country, do we want to allow a means of communication between people which […] we cannot read?"

Yes, Dave, we do. Now kindly sod off.

This is the only thing i look forward to about new years. Lol at max clifford "mimicking a human".

A-FUCKING-MAZING bit at the middle about non-linear rule based on confusion. God, god i wish everyone could get to grips with that. That's everything i ever wanted to say about politics.

It's even got a rap-off between david cameron and alex salmond.... we're not even done!

Steven Spielberg vs Alfred Hitchcock. Epic Rap Battles

Shepppard says...

I like the battle, but there's just so much wasted potential in this one. They should've used this as the finale for the season, and stretched it out a bit more.

No M. Night Shamalamalan, No James Cameron, Even George Lucas could've been in here.

Russell Brand debates Nigel Farage on immigration

billpayer says...

@A10anis you'd have to be ignorant, blind or worse to not understand the plain facts.
Immigration is not the problem. That has been the conclusion of every study into it. Immigrants add to the economy we need more.
The real answer is that the U.K. was raped by the city and dickheads like David Cameron. Sun and Mirror reading drones are why they might actually get away with it. It is the conservatives closing schools and hospitals not immigrants. It is the conservatives that refuse to invest in new homes or jobs.
Furthermore Brand is a comedian ! Just because he is the only person making sense does not mean he needs to run for office, which would likely kill his perspective as an outsider. Take that point up with Jon Stewart.

@dannym3141 Bravo mate !

I've read a lot of glowing reviews for Titanic, but this is probably the first time I've heard it freed someone from mental slavery.

Say what you will about the plot of Avatar, but James Cameron really knows how to make a movie.

Putin was interviewed by a German public broadcaster. A video of it can be found here, but it's in Russian/German, unsurprisingly. As of now, RT is the only source I found for a proper English translation of the entire interview.

Anyway, it is quite disturbing to once again see just how different it sounds from what is being reported about him. The press make him sound like a power-crazed looney, yet of all the heads of state, this old spook is just about the only stable, calm, composed and diplomatic entity in the entire discussion. They call him out for an apparent unwillingness to talk, yet there he is, offering one olive branch after another.

Poroshenko is talking about getting ready for total war, yet to the media, and to folks like Abbott and Cameron, everything bad about the situation can be traced back to Putin.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: the way the press and some state officials are pushing for an open conflict with Russia, a century after the start of the First World War, 75 years after the start of the Second World War, sends chills down my spine. It is pure madness on a scale I thought we had overcome by now.

Cameron's Conference Rap

arghness says...

Fair enough, I should have expected to be laid in to for expressing a political opinion. Fair play to you -- It is the internet, after all

I spend quite a bit of time in the north and like it there, but most of my time is in the midlands so I'm not going to pretend to know what it's like to live there permanently. The only 2 Scots (only 1 of which could vote due to living there) that I'm in touch with regularly both supported staying unified but are looking forward to the greater powers that Scotland deserve and will get.

The difference between the parties, at least in England, seems pretty minimal to me. Blair didn't seem any better (or worse really, other than ditching the gold reserves all in one go at a rather low price) than Cameron.

What sentiment? Cameron has hammered the poor and needy of this country, sold off the post office to his chummies at half price, raised tuition fees (thanks very much Clegg) and nearly ripped Great Britain apart. Fortunately he knew the right people to oil up and got major banks and businesses to pull out in the few days prior to the vote, scaring people into saying no.

Every single scot i've spoken to (and i speak to loads, my mum lives there) has said that they would let the north come with them if they could and they only want to leave because Westminster and the south are completely disconnected from the rest of the country. It's a different world, and the people running the system have absolutely no experience what life is like for the people that have to use it.

Even John Major came out and said that there are too many (something like 80%) rich background public schoolboys in government. Can you tell me with a straight face that you've been to places like Blackpool near where i live, had to use the buses or queue for unemployment, or had family members suffering with disabilities and/or cancer, and then tell me that you think people like Call-Me-Dave in any way represent their best interests or understand their problems, struggling day to day?

I don't want to sound aggressive, but i do have experience with things like that, and some people in this country are getting to the point of desperation but of course that kinda thing doesn't get on the national news and the majority remain oblivious. If we don't see significant democratic reform in this country, i predict a significant social uprising within a lifetime.

Left Behind - Nicolas Cage Official Trailer #1 (2014)

RFlagg says...

...So the Kirk Cameron series based off the same books wasn't enough they had to remake it? What, because Tim LaHaye, one of the original authors of the books, didn't make enough off the original series? The studio decides to remake it so he can get a better cut?

Of course when the movie is panned for Cage's bad acting or anything else, the Christian right will just point out it is the "liberal media" trying to put down the Christian message and not be an actual review of the film's merits.

I'm surrounded daily by people who believe this stuff. Who believe the election of Obama is a sign of the end of times. When climate change gets to the point even they can't deny it anymore, they'll still deny it is human activity and chalk it up to more proof that we're in the end times and it's just like the Bible said. That this nation (somehow the US is special) is being judged for abortion and homosexuality, the last just like Sodom... of course if you point out that the Bible says that the specific sin of Sodom was being a land of plenty and doing nothing to help the needy and the poor, they just change subjects.

Russell Brand debunks David Cameron's War Mongering

ChaosEngine says...

I tried, I really did, but I only got a minute or two into before I just wanted to punch him in the face.

I'll try again.....

nope, can't do it. He's just so fucking self-satisfied.

That doesn't mean I agree with David Cameron either (terrible excuse for a human that he is), simply that I wish we had someone better than Brand.

I've said before that he can be eloquent and impassioned when he's talking about something he has experience with, but he's just mugging it up here and I have no interest in it.
