In a sign of increasing frustration on the Canadian side, the normally cheery Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned Thursday that not signing CETA would issue a “deplorable” message that Europe is heading towards an “unproductive path” post-Brexit.

The fact that power over trade — one of the EU’s core negotiating competences — has shifted to Europe’s 38 national and regional parliaments is a major embarrassment for Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. In July, he was pushed by French and German Socialists into designating CETA as a “mixed agreement” requiring ratification in national and regional assemblies.

A gesture of political goodwill. Or as we call it: a Hail-Mary attempt at keeping it alive, because both the French and the German government are facing serious domestic pressure on this issue. If they hadn't acknowledged parliament's vote on this, CETA might have been taken out back and shot in the head already, like it fucking should be.

Hah! Well, I would definitely have a difficult time being as eloquent as Trudeau, here. She thinks she knows what's best and is a bit too smug about it, so I could definitely see myself getting frustrated in his shoes. He handles it well, though, and I wonder if we might see a statement in the future from her that she thinks it was the right thing after Canada legalizes marijuana.

Nahh... we surely wanted a minority government but Trudeau getting a majority isn't horrible. It means they have a chance to fix a lot of what the Conservatives have done to this country without having to worry as much about interference from the Conservatives.

Mainly, for the people who voted strategically for ABC (anyone but Conservative) like myself, it means the Liberals get a good chance at electoral reform without the Conservatives interfering. Anything is better than that 'Canadian twat' (Hear hear! and Harper, I'm referring to Harper here, even though @eric3579 left his implication open to interpretation... ) and four years of a Liberal majority will be better for Canada than anything Harper could have given us.

Really shitty, to be quite honest. Minority governments get more done that are closer to what Canadians want. Majority Canadian governments are like one of y'alls parties having a President AND a Congress majority. Shit happens that truly stinks.

The best summary I can think of is, when Marlon Brando went to Ottawa to see if he could get funding from the Canadian gov't, for a movie about Native Americans. Trudeau said, "The only difference between your aboriginal peoples and our aboriginals peoples is, you shot and burned yours, we poisoned and starved ours."
