Israel-Palestine: Russell Brand tears down Sean Hannity

dannym3141 says...

Hey look. "He's a comedian" should be the first thing you mentioned, because that's what he is. He's a clever and compassionate guy, but he's ultimately a comedian.

The guys he's referring to are supposed to work in news reporting.

You'll have to give him artistic license to use his skills to lampoon and lambaste their skills. He isn't going to professionally debate Hannity especially when the man can't even allow a debate to happen on a national news station. He is certainly capable of it, but don't expect him (a comedian) to take the high ground over a news anchor. If the anchor wants to act like a child and use silly methods to trick people, Brand is fully entitled to use his superior silly methods to highlight the truth.

Couple of points on his followup, none of which is intended to defend the unprofessional style of the Fox interviewer.

* Makes excuse for the Hamas charter stating "they're just really angry".
* Picks on pronunciation, while calling Hannity childish in the previous video.
* Points out that Fox making fun after discussing a very serious situation reduced it to entertainment, then thanked his panel of Jesus, flowers and Gandhi.

Yes, he's a comedian, but this is precisely why he shouldn't have made the last charge. There's nothing wrong with making light at the end of a serious topic, as long as you're not making light of the topic itself.

Russell provided a good deconstruction of Hannity's tactics to further Fox News' propaganda campaign. In the follow up in the sift's comments section, its ironic to learn that the Israel army has basically turned Gaza into a concentration camp for Palestinians.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Loved it. I wonder if Hannity will ever get axed? Jon Stewart did get that bowtie wearing Crossfire Schmuck dismissed IIRC.

even if Hannity's conspiracy theory about Jon and this Yusuf guy was true and even if Jon did support him and his views after the fact. It's still a desperate ploy at distraction.and shifting attention away from him and Bundy.

Hannity lionizing this redneck racist criminal doesn't magically become OK even if Jon did support this guy. It's another case of "look over there!" Pay no attention to my fucked up shit, look at THIS GUY'S fucked up shit.

yeah so?

I feel I do need to dial my earlier post back a bit. I feel as though I'm unfairly blaming all republicans for this sort of behavior.

The reality is that plenty of Republicans think this sort of thing is nonsense too. The problem is not the republicans, it's Fox News...they are the propaganda arm. It's not all Republicans, Its one group of republicans who are in control of a massively large media apparatus and they are using it to push a narrative. There was a TYT video about this situation too where Cenk blasted Hannity for constantly pushing the rancher to agree with him...instead of..you know..asking him questions and actually interviewing him? Hannity was trying to guide the discussion towards one path and the rancher resisted until Hannity pushed the same narrative for the 3rd time until the rancher gave in and just echoed him.

propaganda.

Not that many people actually agree with Hannity's/Fox's agenda, but they cloak it in the flag of faux patriotism and they know their demographic are poor, old, white scared people and it's so so very easy to pull those puppet strings.

I didn't enjoy this as much when I saw it. Stewart was in the right as he often is, but to enjoy it I felt I would just be serving catharsis, rather than media justice.

I did love the Ted Nugent bit, but ultimately this wasn't nearly as amazing as the Jim Cramer episode. That was something that every politician deserves to go through to this day; true, deserved defamation for hypocrisy and dishonesty.

Hannity just deserves to be ignored, because he's too small to be worth the trouble.

I get that Sean Hannity has to defend himself in some way and yeah Stewart can be annoying but he's obviously funny. If you don't think he's funny you don't know comedy. Why all the weird edits?

Also Hannity should be distancing himself from this guy pretty quick right about now.

Following quote from http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2014/04/cliven-bundy-wants-to-tell-you-all-about-the-negro/361152/

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids—and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch—they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

Hannity's ineptitude as a journalist aside, you say he is; "Entertaining with this boring crap?" Well, it may be "boring crap" to you, but to people who value their liberty, freedom and privacy, it means a hell of a lot more. When "they" are breaking down your door for posting stupid comments - which they have monitored and recorded - who/what will you turn to for justice?

Media Matters should stick to doing stuff like this. They're always accused of being biased but this stuff is pretty easily proven. It's the Daily Show tactic.

Also it's not surprising at all that this is how Hannity acts, I don't even think he's doing it on purpose, he just reacts to things. It's about entertainment and playing to his audience, the man is really good at being entertaining with this boring crap.

Bill Moyers - Inequality in America

Fletch says...

Straw man. Anyway, I bet he makes a lot less than O'Reilly, Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity.

Doesn't Moyers make one hell of a lot more than the cameraman?
How about we confiscate his bank account and divy it up between all of us?

The GOP's Cultivated Prejudices

Libs need to stop helping repugs understand why they got "shellacked". Let 'em die an ignoble death in ignorance, lest they all have sudden Hannity moments of "clarity" on just who they need to tailor their BS for.
