Sorry to dash your free market fantasies, buddy, but you should know that the banking industry would whole-heartedly agree with your call for less 'state interference'. They made a lot of money through predatory lending due to deregulation and a lack of 'state interference'. The public was much better off when it had more oversight and control over the banking industry. The 'free' market capitalist thinking that has influenced our leaders since Reagan has made things worse, not better.
Downvoted for calling the other protesters fascists. Nazi Germany was a capitalist society.

Yep he's a tea bagger, being British and all.

Brits can't be free market fundies, too?

Guy Fawkes - G20 Protester Theatrical & Well Spoken

blankfist says...

I never liked the Guy Fawkes mask at protests. Some Anarchists and Libertarians have been doing it for years, and it bothers me that they'd liken their cause to terrorism. I want a peaceful evolution, not a violent revolution.

That being said... The banking industry doesn't want free markets. I know this because investment bankers have said as much. What we have now is a nationalized pro-corporate marketplace. The regulations are everywhere, and they've choked out small business and emboldened large corporations and big bankers.

I doubt people like Jonas Salk would be able to research and put into the market the polio vaccine when facing a minimum of $4-5 million to pay for FDA approval today.

This is the Last Year I Trick-or-Treat in Australia (Blog Entry by dag)

spoco2 says...

It just really isn't a thing in Australia, you can't get shitty at Australia for not following another country's customs, no matter how hard the commercial businesses want us to.

I actually went trick or treating with my kids this year with a family who's mother is from the states, and it went quite well, lots of treats were handed out.

But....

I think it's far better to do Halloween parties in Australia rather than trying the whole trick or treat thing, it'll never be as big as the states, it's just the way it is here.

It'd be like an Englishman getting shitty at another country for not celebrating Guy Fawkes (cool holiday ), or me getting shitty at the US for not celebrating the Melbourne Cup.

As kids we had Halloween parties each year, and they're great. People here are more than happy to do the dress up thing and have spooky goings on, just don't expect people to be ready with lollies if you go out and about.

Truly outrageous and unacceptable. Armed gangs can roam a street and cause trouble? Will take months in court. They didn't even ask what they were doing, what if it was the Guy Fawkes club..

Like Deano, I've hardly heard any fireworks so far. It does seem that Halloween's out-competing Guy Fawkes.

It hasn't had much patriotic significance for a long time; mainly an excuse to get together and set things on fire, blow things up and maim the occasional child.

I have in previous years gone to a firework display but I feel I'm not the only one whose enthusiasm is waning. Normally you hear fireworks being launched from around October but it's been quieter this year. Near my office the only fireworks being left off are celebrating Divali. And in years past you would see children shouting "penny for the guy" - http://www.icons.org.uk/theicons/collection/
bonfire-night/features/a-penny-for-the-guy-in-progress.
No more. Halloween has definitely edged out Bonfire night. Bloody yanks, would you adam and eve it.

Couldn't agree more, Halloween definitely has taken off this year like no other. We're still doing a bonfire though and stuffing a guy to burn

Same with the fireworks, only the odd one or two leading up to tonight which is a lot less then previous years.
