Rethinking Death: Exploring What Happens When We Die

Birds Aren’t Real On Fox News

luxintenebris jokingly says...

Am neutral on this issue of robotic crows & such -but someone mentioned starlings.

Starlings are not natural.

1) The iridescent color is an illusion
2) They can and have spoken in English & other tongues
3) A pair raised a brood in a tree next to the house & rarely made noise

None of this is normal bird behavior.

1) am told their plumage (notably the ' iridescence') has no true pigment but the structure of their feathers. Could be that it's a cloaking device since we don't always see them around.

2) if they can speak in captivity, they must while in the flock, if only to keep their English (et al) sharp. it's proof that they hear and understand us. handy for data gathering.

3) Since the pair near us have raised littles & they only 'buzz' when ma or pa show up with Grub Hub - it suggests they are covert creatures. a trait common in spies. [also, mysteriously two of the house cats have gone missing just before they moved in.]

not saying ALL birds are bots - but if there is a place to start an investigation - Starlings are the best bet.

How do we know that they weren't behind this obvious attempt at propaganda. as if falling in love is akin to being in a murmuration...

Biden Smiden - investigate Starlings.

holds water. at the time, thought with derisive cyniscism 'why is he doing this? maybe he wants to be sure the GOP has enough voters!'

held that thought privately until it became obvious.

yeah. most enlightened (the truly bright) find education a gift that all people should be given. ben franklin, Andrew Carnegie, et al knew the deep effect of education on a people/nation/society.

'sides, doesn't do the US well to have hungry air force personnel mistakenly launch missiles when they thought the button said 'lunch'.

I think this argument is invalid from the standpoint of what groups of people he is talking about. The people who tend to value free education by supplementing with tax dollars tend to vote democrat. People who want to keep education expensive and withhold tax aid tend to be republican. Particularly in these modern times: the exit polls show that the more educated you are, the more likely you were to vote democrat. The most educated people seem to be electing those who would like to make education low cost.

Given this, the argument that 'education is kept expensive to keep competition down' is unlikely (though not impossible) to come from an educated person...because the statistics show that this tends to not be the values of an educated person. The educated 'club' tends to value exactly the opposite, and wants everyone to be educated.

get the drift...sort like those folks who said wearing a cross is a bit like wearing a noose/electric chair/syringe pin or blind-folded man w/cigarette button.

rather it be the fish, dove, flame, lamb, star, or Chi-Rho. If one wanted to prompt angst in a fellow 'Christian' - a rainbow.

what is sorta cool is that minuscule sect of Christians that believe JC slipped and died in the shower. they use bathtub icons.

also kinda hard on boy scouts. the flag patch comes w/the uniform. tried to add some 'hip' to the shirt but the black flag patch wasn't appreciated.

do have veterans in the family, 7 yr - 33 yr, so am okay w/their lapel pins (et al).

Whenever I see this I instantly KNOW these are hypocritical people with “do as I say, not as I do” mentalities. Like those who drape themselves in the flag, it’s proof positive they don’t believe in or respect the religion, they only want to use their faux love for Christianity (or a country) as a club against those they dislike.

The Bible says clearly and unambiguously to never worship idols.

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."
The cross is an idol, a graven image of an execution device. Definitely a thing that is “in the earth”. Any Christian that wears (or even worships) the cross is violating their own religion in an effort to wear it on their sleeve as a badge of honor and/or shield.

Same goes for flags, wearing one as clothing is seriously disrespectful to the flag and the nation for which it stands….especially when it’s done to show how much more patriotic they are…it proves the exact opposite. People wear flag underwear to show their patriotism while literally wiping their ass with it and farting on it all day as they sit on the flag….real patriotic!

I don’t understand people who do that, it’s clear to me that those who wrap themselves in religion or patriotism really have neither.

I will not tolerate this.

Go back to your desk and bring it back when you're done and then I'll read it.

luxintenebris said:

Less well known [than other paradoxes] is the paradox of tolerance: Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.—In this formulation, I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be most unwise. But we should claim the right to suppress them if necessary even by force; for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive, and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols. We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant. We should claim that any movement preaching intolerance places itself outside the law and we should consider incitement to intolerance and persecution as criminal, in the same way as we should consider incitement to murder, or to kidnapping, or to the revival of the slave trade, as criminal.

After the recent IPCC climate report an old 'Newsroom' clip

newtboy says...

*doublepromote someone else finally telling the truth, even if it is just a fictional tv character. I’ve been saying the same thing since around 2000. If we went all in, halted all co2 emissions and all methane emissions 20 years ago, and invested in methods to catch and sequester what we already emitted, we might have avoided the tipping point where we are no longer in control….but instead we increased emissions every year, flooring it towards that cliff and hitting the nitrous button.
*quality if inconvenient truths

That tipping point was reached well over a decade ago when methane started to melt out of permafrost and the deep ocean where it has been frozen for eons. It’s capable of causing warming >80 times as much as co2 short term, >25 times as much long term, and is boiling out at rapidly increasing rates. Pre 2006 it’s estimated around .5 million tons per year…2006 it was measured at 3.8 million tons…by 2013 that was up to 17 million tons with the trend increasing. More recent estimates are hard to find, but it’s agreed that as temperatures climb not only are hydrates melting much more rapidly, bacteria are also accelerating decomposition in the thawed permafrost, and they emit methane. The Arctic is warming up to 5 times faster than the average global temperature. It’s likely over 50 million tons per year by now if not much higher.

Shakhova et al. (2008) estimate that not less than 1,400 gigatonnes (Gt=1 billion tons) of carbon is presently locked up as methane and methane hydrates under the Arctic submarine permafrost, and 5–10% of that area is subject to puncturing by open taliks. They conclude that "release of up to 50 Gt of predicted amount of hydrate storage [is] highly possible for abrupt release at any time". That would increase the methane content of the planet's atmosphere by a factor of twelve in one shot….game over.

Bear in mind, 1 cubic meter of hydrate contains >160 cubic meters of methane gas at atmospheric pressure.

The amount of increase from bacterial emissions in rotting permafrost is debatable, but even the lowest estimates are insurmountable.

This is only one of dozens of KNOWN feedback loops already in action, and there are definitely unknown feedback systems we can’t predict.

This does not mean there’s nothing to be done, we can still mitigate the damage somewhat, maybe slow the rate of change enough that some animals and plants more advanced than bacteria survive long term. It does mean a massive >99% culling of humanity, a total shift in civilization from a money based civilization to one focused on survival, and likely an unavoidable mass extinction rivaling any previous extinctions.

*sigh* small point (and pedantic af) but 'drinking the Kool-Aid' was a grim reference to the poisoning of Jim Jones' cult members. cyanide (et al) was mixed w/FLAVOR AID and they drank it (not all, willingly).

sure, might be a tiny detail but still...33 is likely unaware (again) and mistaken (again).

The official flower of the President-reject's administration: a pansy.

A yellow pansy.

Never accepted the last election? No. Never believed that the moron was acceptable. They knew he was president, but not a competent president. One can acknowledge a person's placement but not have to believe they deserve it.

If this is otherwise, then Fox News is going to have to be very, very, silent for the next four years. That's happening?

It was Mitch et al that never accepted that DJ was an abomination.

Just like W and the GOP's, "Why do you hate America?" when anyone called them out on their buggery.

Get hemmed in on an issue? Losing the debate? Being embarrassed by a logical penetrating question? Then go to the new standard deflection, "...never accepted the election".

Pansies. Yellow pansies.

So, yeah, the Dems can rightfully lecture DJ and the GOP on recognizing and ACCEPTING Americans' choice of a new president. Moscow Mitch will dutifully be quiet and kind, right?

Tesla China - Shanghai Gigafactory production line

wtfcaniuse says...

You're assuming the people calling you out on your BS are liberals. That is one of your mistakes.

I was trying to be nice. I actually appreciate you contributing something for once.

Tesla is not leading the EV market today and they will not be leading it in ten years. The biggest EV market is China and Tesla makes up maybe 1/5th. China and India are the biggest emerging EV markets and both have locally developed EVs.

Telsa is not 5 years ahead of Panasonic, LG, BYD, et al. The breakthroughs are coming from labs you've never heard of.

Don't put all your stocks in the one EV basket. As Stukafox mentioned Hydrogen is the future. Current EV's are a stopgap.
