here's more detailed information about industry in California specifically, looks like it's been growing steady for a while.

Also, note the sharp uptick in government spending starting ~2014 -current numbers late 2018

That spending doesn't account for all of the growth, but there's a parallel growth happening in the "All industry total" category, defined as - "The All industry total includes all Private industries and Government."

So much of this is simply factually incorrect or misleading.
I'll link sources above my information

First of all, in 1910, the school year was only 99 days in length. Only half of eligible students attended, and only 8% graduated from high school.

Furthermore, in 1910, only 35% of 17 year olds were in high school.

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2013/08/12/ready-or-not-77-million-kids-and-adults-heading-back-to-school-soon/
Compare that to today, where nearly 100% of young people attend high school and OF COURSE it's going to cost more. DURR!

http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/education_spending
Meanwhile, even though spending has gone up by an absolute number, the percentage of GDP from the federal and state governments has remained steady at 2% or LESS, with rising costs from local spending, in part, because of an increased privatization of schools.

Oi vey, and they rallying against FLUORIDE??? Seriously?
http://www.tampabay.com/news/localgovernment/dewitt-more-ferocious-fallacies-about-fluoride/2139759
"high rates of exposure were very high indeed — up to 11.5 parts per million. And many of the other highly exposed groups were drinking water with more than 3 parts per million of fluoride.

That's more than four times the concentration used to protect teeth: 0.7 parts per million.

And that, by the way, is the same or lower than the level in the water supply of some "low exposure" groups in the studies. In other words, the standard fluoridation level in this country was presented in some of these studies as an amount that allowed kids' IQs to flourish."

Stop fear mongering. Get some science.

Make people despise you: Judge children by their names

cluhlenbrauck says...

actually there is some science to this. Obviously not ALWAYS is it a clear indication of one's intelligence. A name could explain a background, social class, area they were born and over all intelligence of the parents.

Yeah judging people is bad hurr derp durr.

Wow, what a bitch. I guess a child's name can indicate that parents aren't too clever though... anyone whose child's name rhymes with aden/aiden (Aiden, Jaden, Kaden, Maden, Raden, etc..) for example. Or parents who deliberately spell their child's name differently (e.g. Jackson vs Jaxon vs Jaqson) so that they'll be "unique". Doesn't make the kid dumb...

@CaptainPlanet @Jinx

Sorry to interrupt you both, but why don't you just assume that they're both stationary and then work out how fast and how far they each start travelling backwards at different times using their difference in velocity; you're ignoring friction anyway so they're both inertial reference frames and may be treated as such. It'll make it a lot easier, conceptually, to find out how far apart they will be IF he reacts that quickly. I'm not gonna do it because it's already turned into a pile of shit pseudo intellectual argument, but i'm just saying.

Also, try to have discussions about maths/science in a nice and friendly way, because otherwise you just look like a youtube idiot who knows nothing about the subject. The last thing i want to see on the sift over crap like that is "hurr durr" comments.

Anyway, this is a bit of a stupid idea. To be fair they're only going between 55-60 mph which i suppose isn't motorway speeds, it's more like dual carrageway speeds. If he was on the motorway i'd say he had a death wish. As it is i'd say he's pretty desperate to be paralysed and have half of his skin grated away by the road surface.

Killing Us Softly: Advertising's Image of Women

dystopianfuturetoday says...

In the parlance of our times: hurr durr

>> ^Winstonfield_Pennypacker:

Seriously, didn't we leave this kind of sexism behind in the 80s?
The point is that it ISN'T sexism. It is the refutation of a patently insulting and illogical argument that demeans human beings far more than the so-called 'evil' it decries. This woman's argument goes much further down the road of dehumanizing people than any of the ads she whines about. The only differences is that she is hiding her argument, and advertising isn't. I respect a good ad 100X more than this fool and her fear driven lies.
white males
And you're doubling down on it by being a racist. How do you even know if anyone here is white? Between her insulting mysoginy, her evil misandry, and your stereotypical racism we've got a real intolerance trifecta going on here.
Advertising is sleazy. It preys upon our fears and insecurities.
So is this woman, and her stupid arguments. Regardless, advertising does one thing and one thing only... It creates product awareness. When you march into a retail store to purchase deodorant, you don't buy Axe Body Spray because you actually believe women are going to chase you down. You buy it because you saw the ad, thought it was funny, and decided to give it a shot. And in doing so you decided that you LIKED it. I bought a can of Axe (Sharp Focus) because I saw the black can in the aisle and liked the scent - not because I thought some woman in a schoolgirl skirt was going to maul me. The argument that people are puppets of "sleazy" ads is complete bunk. Ads create awareness. Awareness leads to trial. Trial leads to consumption. It's that simple.
Those who don't get it should keep watching it in a continuous loop until your consciousness evolves to a higher level
That happened a long time ago - and without any assistance from this woman and her abbevillian stupidity. And my higher, evolved consciousness tells me that this woman - and her clearly prejudice hate of men and women - can go cram it sideways with walnuts.
68 yr-old woman it's surprising that she has not a single gray hair.
Because quite clearly this hypocrite buys into the "evil" advertising image that grey hair is bad. Oh - but I'm SURE when this dingus walks into the salon to get her hair done she doesn't feel for one second that she's a stinking, slimy, self-righteous hypocrite for dying her hair with one of those hair care products all those "evil" advertisement pimp in their demeaning, insulting, culturally poisonous advertisement. :eyeroll: What a piece of work that pathetic specimen is.

Possible Redesign on Recharge Points. (Magic Talk Post)

GDGD says...

Oh, right, durr. My brain lapsed while writing that, and I was still using the 'if you have points when recharge hits they are wasted' mentality.

>> ^xxovercastxx:

>> ^GDGD:
I fully support this. Would the recharge timer then pause if you earned powerpoints for something else, and then resume when you reached zero again?

Actually, her proposal states that the countdown begins when you hit zero and is not interrupted. If you gain points through other means in the meantime, you still get your recharge points at the same time you would have had you stayed at zero.
I think either method would be fine, though bb's proposal sounds easier to program to me.
