Inside a Camera at 10,000fps - The Slow Mo Guy[s]

Inside a Camera at 10,000fps - The Slow Mo Guy[s]

And that's why you have a slowest "flash sync speed" - if you shoot at faster shutter speeds than the flash sync speed (typically 1/200s-1/250s), the whole sensor wouldn't be exposed at once, and the lower part of the frame would be dark.

This Is What You Look Like In Ultraviolet

jimnms says...

@moonsammy At 1:52 and 2:42 you can see it's just an off the shelf Canon DSLR. I'm assuming it has some sort of filter that only allows UV light through.

@jmd I don't think those are hot pixels. Notice the spots aren't always in the same place, and in some scenes aren't there at all. In the last scene the spot only shows up as the UV filter slides over, so it's possibly dust on the lens, filter or sensor.

Looks like a cheaper DSLR style camera. That's terrible terrible jello effect. And considering at the end I can see one guy with a Canon C100 and Rode VMP, I'd assume they had access to something a bit more modern than an old Nikon or Canon which had TERRIBLE jello effect. That C100 wouldn't exhibit anywhere near that amount of jello unless it was added in post for effect. (Seriously, the camera being used could be a C100 with the handle and mic port detached, but it's too grainy and motion blurred for me to see for sure.) No idea why they would do that either unless, like you stated, they really wanted to bring the quality down.

cool video, great concept. Terrible camera. It looks nice every time they set the camera down, but it looks terrible when in motion, and considering the amount of times it's actually moving, it brings the quality down quite a few notches.

Awesome story, but for crying out loud people the DSLR shallow DoF fad is getting old. Half the shots were out of focus and I'm pretty sure it was "artistic intent". Made it hard to pay attention to her story.

And note to self, if I see a girl upside down firing a bow and arrow with her feet . . . I should promptly hide as I'm pretty sure now she won't miss . . . . .

Just please wait for the chorus... It's totally worth it.

Vincent Laforet
"In 2008, Laforet directed "Reverie", the first widely available short film shot with the Canon 5D Mark II camera. The video has been cited by proposers of the use of DSLR cameras in digital cinematography[3] and has been heralded as one of the films that launched the HDSLR movement "

Digital Photography Gurus: I got Questions... (Engineering Talk Post)

notarobot says...

I guess it depends on what you are looking to accomplish. Webcam images will be small and not necessarily the highest resolution. If you need cheap, you probably know that already. I'm not sure that chasing a 35mm SLR lens will help you achieve "cheap." Some of the lenses alone for a dSLR like what Critical_d mentioned are (awesome! but) $400+ and only produce a 1:1 ratio image. There are plenty of actual microscopes on ebay under $100. Or you can even find digital "toy" microscopes that actually work pretty well new for not much more.

Is this the kind of thing you are thinking of building?

Digital Camera for SCIENCE! (Science Talk Post)

critical_d says...

I believe Sigma uses the Foveon chip. I got a Sigma lens when I bought my Nikon D7000 but I have not owned a Sigma camera. Would it not be cheaper to buy the sensor itself? I have never hacked a DSLR so it would be cool to hear what you find out there. Good Luck!!

World's first true HDR video using DSLRs

This is not a world first , UTTER BULLSHIT.
I know manny people have done this somethign i have contemplated doing over 2 years ago.

well the difference is that this is filmed in real time and not in some timelapse mode.
Though it's still not really HDR(the images doesn't differ enough), but rather just tone mapped which is normally mistaken for HDR.
And they really effed that one up too as they use way to much of it.
