An Autistic Woman "Speaks" Her Language, Then Ours

messenger says...

Having a long explanation does not make something geeky. Where did you get that definition? This can't be reduced to an explanation anyway; it's a call for understanding; a presentation of a philosophy of communication.

"Geek" is a term, usually a missive, reserved for people obsessed with things that are totally useless to the rest of the world (really dancing to DDR), obsessed with things that are mostly impractical to the rest of the world (building Stone Henge by yourself), or cool scientific stuff (http://www.videosift.com/video/Mythbusters-Breaking-Glass-With-Unaltered-Human-Voice">breaking glass with the human voice). These are geeky things. I can't think of anything less geeky than someone educating people on how to understand her.

Expert playing guitar hero II - Free Bird

My kids are in band and love DDR and Guitar Hero. I really think it helps their playing and marching abilities...dexterity, and such.

Though one time we had 10 kids taking turns at DDR in an upstairs den, thought the ceiling would come down!

Probably the Worst Gaming Peripheral Ever

firefly says...

I agree pickleking, though the DDR games should do well for exercise. My kids and I play it a lot at home (I need the "easy" setting for my uncoordinated butt!)
and I don't know deathcow, I can't see the button on the video either...strange

Fantasy In D Minor Composed by Mozart - Played by 10 Year Old

Why assume that all talented kids are forced to practice?

If you really like something and want to get good at it nobody has to impose it on you.

And while you say this is more "worthwhile" than DDR, this game (and the sort like: Beatmania, DJMAX, O2Jam, etc) exercises your rythm, coordination, reflexes, concentration and flexibility similar to piano, and kids aren't forced to play them (quite the opposite sometimes) because they are fun!

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

Maybe not more intellectual westy, but I think this has to be a more worthwhile practice than DDR. I agree though that getting little minds to bend into a shape that can produce this kind feat is not a good thing to do.

Its funny how manny people might percive this kid as being more interlectual than a kid that is pro at a game ddr, deathmatch, pong

in the end if sumone has an incaling of ability at something and then has the motivation ( ore parents) to make them practise then thay will most likely get good at it.

It impresses me when children show creative ability say she writes and played her own song then i wud be impressed. i guess u can argue the vairations on how u play a peace of music show creativity. anny way stop posting clips of kids that are better at things than me

Weirdest competition ever - DDR danceoff set to Teriyaki Boyz song

Krupo says...

My preliminary thought is that whether sifters will love or ignore this clip may boil down to how far this infatuation with bizarre clips associated with Japan extends to the spectacle of a DDR danceoff.

I mean, no one gets ejected by a rocket out of a toilet (sorry), but perhaps there are some other cliches here that I haven't considered.

Also, I partly posted this b/c of this quote on the YouTube post (which includes lyrics, in case you're so inclined): "stupid americans ..... they shudnt even try to ddr against asaian chicks"
