The Dance Off: Stephen Colbert Battles Rain

What is your favorite genre of game to play? (Videogames Talk Post)

JAPR says...

I'm a huge fan of fighters, RPGs, and DDR.

Favorite games:

Chrono Trigger
FF VI
DDR Extreme 2
Smash Brothers
Smash Bros. Brawl
Marvel vs. Capcom
Pokemon Yellow (lol)

Guitar Hero with Real Guitars

BoneyD says...

This looks like an interesting game, hopefully where people who've had an introduction on Guitar Hero will head next.

I think the resentment towards the latter is a little unfounded, however. The game introduces people to the instrument, who would probably have never picked one up on their own. I don't see how this is a negative thing. Do people who play DDR not count as dancers in some form because they're following prompts and not designing their own moves? To be good at all of Guitar Hero, you need to develop something of a musical sense, to play the difficult sequences with the correct cadence or syncopation.

Tycho at Penny-Arcade made a post on the subject recently which enunciates this perspective far better than I have. I guess my point is if you can play genuine guitars, then great. Perhaps Guitar Hero is just not for you. Let people enjoy their escapist glory before an imaginary audience. That is, after all, why we play games.

Little 5-yr. old kid dominates "Dance Dance Revolution" game

JAPR says...

If I could kick the shit out of Mario at five, I'm not surprised that this kid can do this. Besides, I'm WAY better at DDR than he is, Standard is for chumps.

Copied for Qruel: Crysis: How to Activate DX10 Feature in XP (Videogames Talk Post)

karaidl says...

Sigh... I'm still rocking a 2.0 ghz single core processor with only 1 gig of DDR ram and a 40 GB hard drive. Don't know how fast it is, but it's probably only 4200 rpm. Then I have my 7800 GS (which is an AGP card) and my vastly outdated Audigy Value sound card.

I use msconfig to shut literally almost everything down on XP, leaving only Plug and Play and Windows Audio. Even still, I can't keep up with a lot of new stuff, and as a life-long PC gamer (started when I was 3 - fond memories of Doom and Wolfenstein 3D), with no game consoles, I'm in pain.

At least HL2 will run for me.

Got the Bioshock demo to run alright, but haven't bought the full game.

Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance

JAPR says...

This is the worst song on DDR Supernova. Not a fan of the song, or the group at all. I've no problem with mediocre pop rock, but the airwaves and MTV are flooded with stuff mediocrity, while all sorts of great bands are totally ignored.

Omni-directional treadmill lets you walk in any direction

shatterdrose says...

I just watched a show the other day, no clue what it was, but one of the hosts was showing a "new" interactive game that uses a real life person to interact with the characters on screen. I can easily see these two technologies being easily merged and having a truly, 360 (minus up OR down ) where you can walk, punch, kick and everything else in the game environment. And to think, Florida schools bought DDR to get their kids to exercise . . . .
