Dorkly Bits: Double Dragon Girlfriend

Fighter Overestimates Himself and Pays For It

SFOGuy says...

Chin blow carries mechanical force from mandible directly to the skull with no soft tissue shock absorption along the way--and the direct mechanical force of the blow translates to fore-and-aft movement of the skull WITHOUT any rotation absorbing the energy---skull imparts blows force directly to soft tissue of the brain as the inertial mass of the brain leaves it standing in place, being sloshed through the normally cushioning layer of cerebral spinal fluid to make direct mechanical contact with the inside of the skull (albeit through the layers of the pia, mater and dura) ----forebrain and probably including midbrain structures---and then whipsaws backwards with a contra-coup impact on the back the brain as the head snaps back. (occiput/visual centers)

The mechanical impact of the brain tissue on the inside wall of the brain probably causes (now I'm guessing, but it's an informed guess) the neurons to respond to the blow with a mass ionic depolarization/electrical potential trigger---and concussion.

If he's only averagely unlucky, he'll also have a intra-cerebral/parenchymal micro bleeding---and if he's really unlucky, he'll keep getting in that ring and he'll end up like the NFL players with serial concussions or like Muhammed Ali. A demented, Parkinsonian cripple.

Don't get hit in the head.

America's 2nd Revolutionary War

Kofi says...

Nice thought. Only it is contra every recent instance of tyranny and makes no sense in a nation of 300+ million with a seemingly endless supply of those to the south of the border wanting entry and willing to literally work in the vegetable plantation.

But, whatever keeps the fear alive I guess. Terrorism has grown so passée.

What The Media Isn't Telling You About The Drug War

rich_magnet jokingly says...

So the government of the USA is covertly supporting the militant/murderous illegal para-government in a foreign country, which is financed by their supplying a drug market in the USA? If it's true, it's surely unprecedented. Absolutely no parallels to the Iran/Contra/cocaine debacle. Nor the Vietnam/opium war. Nothing like the Afghan/hash wars.

The Rumble 2012 - Jon Stewart vs. Bill O'Reilly

bareboards2 says...

Raising the age is fine if it is means tested.

Poorer people don't live as long. Poorer people tend to work at jobs that are much harder on their bodies. Adding years to when they are eligible to collect social security isn't right.

Can you imagine being a janitor at age 68? Dang.

Also --

Maybe I don't understand, but Jon said -- let's means test social security. Bill-o said no, then proceeded to say means testing for the rich. Am I missing something?

I also agree that capitalism is the problem with our discourse. It's not just the selling of hate, it is also the selling of fear and sex and cute kitten videos. When a news room has to make a profit, they are offering stories that pander to the lowest common denominator. Reagan's Iran contra mess, while well covered, was nothing compared to the coverage of Clinton and the stained dress and the cigar. Because sex sells.

>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:

I actually agreed with BillO on a few issues. I think raising the social security age and cutting rich people off from social security benefits is a reasonable idea. I also agree that people are being hired to spread hate... mainly by the FOX news network. He also admits Iraq was a bad idea/disaster.
Bill doesn't seem that extreme when compared to the Glenn Becks and Alex Jones of the world.

Dubstep On A Contra Bass Clarinet

Obama Vs Bush on Regulations

heropsycho says...

What the heck does spending tax money have to do with this?

Obama is utterly disregarding the Constitution? I'd assume you loved Reagan. Show me one thing Obama did that violates the Constitution more than the Iran-Contra Affair under Reagan.

>> ^quantumushroom:

It's never explained if Bush's 643 is over 8 years versus 613 for Odumbo's 3.5 years. We all know who spent more tax money (and uselessly).
Bush was a liberal (bailouts/scamulus) except on foreign policy. He spent like an amateur liberal, rubber-stamping everything that slipped onto his desk. We'll never know what he'd have done had there been no muslim attacks.
Really, how long is the left going to keep defending this inflamed appendix of a fraudsident? The Kenyawaiian's gift to all of us is a complete disregard for the Constitution. We are sitting out the reign of this dangerous, clueless and corrupt regime, then hopefully it's back to business.

I want you to know posts like this are not calculated to offend.
Rs aren't much better right now, but I am genuinely scared shirtless for this country with the current regime of lawless clowns at the helm.

Chomsky dispels 9/11 Conspiracies with Logic

I guess according to chompsky, Iran contra couldn't have happened either, because it would have been too vast a conspiracy. (Wait, that doesn't prove my point, ahh nevermind)

Well, here's the thing: There were lots of leaks about the Iran-Contras scandal. That's why it became a scandal. Chomsky's point holds here too, in that conspiracies are impossible to keep hidden.

Who needs evidence when we can ask our government what happen?

Or better yet, we could watch a bunch of videos made by disingenuous tin foil hat wearing mororns on the internet! That's the equivalent of science, right?

Someone made a really good point in the WTC 7 video the other day where they pointed out that just because they're scientists/experts doesn't mean they're immune to a good conspiracy. Surely it's not lost on you that you are taking their word for it and ignoring the "experts" who debunk it?

Funny, NIST asked structural engineers and architects too, and the ones they asked came up with the official story. What's more, thousands upon thousands of other scientists and professionals all accept the official collapse story. What do you believe, that all those thousands are in on the government conspiracy? Myself, I find the much more plausible explanation to be that there are a few gullible people in any profession, and the truthers found a few and put them on video.

@marbles

That's not what I said, and it's not what Chomsky said either. My point is that when they couldn't keep Iran-Contras leak free, there's no way that they could prevent a multitude of leaks about the much larger supposed 9/11 conspiracy. And we don't see that.

What we see, according to the truthers, are several unexplained phenomena about the collapse of the two largest office buildings in the world and one of their neighbours. Well, what a fucking surprise. It's not every day that giant skyscrapers get hit by planes and fall down. It's a damn complex event that we don't know everything about, especially not the truthers.

There are enough real problems and conspiracies in this world without people inventing new ones. Why not invest time and energy to solve for instance the AIDS problem in Africa? That would actually help real people. But it's much more comfortable to watch cleverly edited youtube videos at home. That way one doesn't have to think.

Oh, so conspiracies only exist when we know about them. Yeah, that makes sense.
