trump supporters get violent with silent protesters

newtboy says...

Goons. Hired goons.
...but...
being police, they have a duty to enforce the law and protect citizens even when off the clock, so letting Big Hoss put the guy in a headlock, then just walk off is a dereliction of duty. If we had their names, they might lose their jobs over it, because many people would make formal complaints and end their careers...as I think they should if the cops don't do their jobs.

I don't get the rent-a-cop thing... in other similar videos where one or more folks are protesting silently or sitting in the audience with signs (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s2dm2AuUr0) uniformed police are asked by Trump to remove the trouble makers, or the disturbance is large enough that the police intervene and again, remove the troublemakers. Are these guys on the clock or are they off duty paid goons? The fat boy in the cowboy hat should have been arrested for his actions, no?

The brown shirt reference is well chosen. Don't know about others, but this is some scary shit, and the asshats that are following Chump have zero appreciation for both the freedom to vote and the responsibility to the country in doing so.

one of the many faces of racism in america

enoch says...

no mistaken assumption my friend.
just looking at the bigger picture is all.

was the "company" really disgusted by this mans behavior?
or were they performing damage control?
i suspect the latter.

which is why i brought up the PC police and the inherent dangers within.i even referenced a case in canada which had gone too far.(in my opinion).

does the company have a right to fire him? short answer? yes.
but nobody is asking about this mans rights, and if they are honest with themselves it is because he is a grotesque example of a human being.

so you try to further your point by doing a thought experiment, and i hate thought experiments, but ok..lets play:
what if he was advocating the legalization of sex with prepubescent children?

ah my friend.
this is easy.
the answer is arrest and convict.
but why you may ask?

here is where i think you may be misunderstanding my argument and your thought experiment reveals this quite plainly.

to YOU.this example of child sex and our racist turdnugget here are the same.

they are not.

because advocating to legalize child sex is an "intent to harm".the adovcating will result in actual harm of actual children.see:child pornography.

while turdnugget here has actually harmed no one.
nobody was actually harmed.
maybe disgusted.
maybe a feeling or two.

lets try another thought experiment.
what if this man was filmed not being an ugly racist but rather smoking weed with some buddies.

should he be fired?

another one:what if he is filmed at a sanders rally (unlikely) and the president of the company is a die-hard trump supporter?

should he be fired?

look,it is easy to view this man losing his job as some kind of justice, but we need to be honest why we are ok with THIS man getting fired and that reason is simply that he is grotesque and offensive.

but he did not actually HARM anyone.he was just offensive and IS offensive to our sensibilities.

i agree that there is an irony in this situation.the man verbally attacks a perceived threat to his livelihood, and then loses that livelihood.

it may have a certain poetry to it,but is that justice?
no.

the larger argument is this:when is it considered normal or acceptable to hold people to a company standard when they are:
not working.
not in uniform.
not representing the company in ANY way.
are not getting paid for this off time.
are engaging in activities which are harming no one but may be viewed as contrary to company standards?

where is the line drawn?
and who draws that line?
who enforces it?

while the company has a right to fire you for any reason it wishes, does it have a right to impose behavior, activities, personal life choices when you are not on the clock?

with the PC police engaging in ever more draconian and bullying tactics to impose their own sense of morality upon others, based on what THEY feel is righteous and morally correct.i feel this will get out of hand very quickly, and the canadian example i used is only one of many.

here is one thing i do not understand.
how come when the religious right uses tactics very similar to this,we all stand up and shout "fuck you buddy",but when the PC police behave in an almost identical fashion....people applaud.

that is just NOT a morally consistent stance.
it is hypocritical.

so maybe in the short run we can view this ugly example of a human being and think to ourselves that some form of justice was served, but that is a lie.it may make us feel good and tickle our moral compass as somehow being a righteous outcome to a reprehensible piece of shit, but it is no way justice.

in the larger context and taken to its logical conclusion:this moral calculus could be a future metric to impose obedience and compliance from, not just turdnugget, but EVERYBODY...and that includes you.

and THAT is something that i find extremely disturbing.

the PC police are having a real impact, with real consequences and even though they may have the best of intentions, the real result is social control, obedience and compliance.

i would rather i keep my liberty and freedoms to do as i wish.the PC police can suck a bag of dicks.

It seems you are under the mistaken assumption that they bowed to public pressure by PC warriors and fired him. Read the description, the company itself was disgusted, and has a policy of being intolerant of hate speech by their employees. Do you feel the company has no right to fire him for public statements and actions outside work that run 100% contrary to the company policy?
Where do you draw the line? What if he was advocating for the legalization of sex with prepubescent children? Should they still ignore it if he only does it outside work? If that line is up to the company to decide, what's the issue here?

Teenager wins $400,000 for video explaining Relativity

dannym3141 says...

This is an excellent explanation for someone of his age and his skill with video editing obviously helps a lot. It held my interest, the world needs more entertaining and educating videos like these.

My only criticism - and some youtubers have already pointed this out - is that the explanation of time dilation "..the same bodily change that happens on earth takes much longer to occur when you are moving so fast.." is wrong.

Signals sent within the body can be analogous to a clock - any fixed duration measured between two ~lightspeed reference frames will be different, including seconds measured by an atomic clock - but time dilation specifically has nothing to do with the mechanics behind how you measure the time or the time it takes a signal to travel. It's a property of the nature of spacetime. Time itself actually slows down. There's no 'trick' to understanding how or why, it's just a property that it has. We can forgive him because he'd already demonstrated that physics is the same in any inertial reference frame and there is no "preferential" reference frame; therefore the motion of the reference frame can't be responsible for the observed difference, so he obviously already really knew all this.

There's no shame in getting that wrong, because he'll be taught more and better about it as he progresses through school. Generally the arbitrary subjects are the hardest to live with because you just have to accept them as they are rather than 'understand'. Quantum mechanics is the same - you just have to accept the rules and apply the maths. Everyone struggles with it, even Feynman said "If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics."

Daylight Saving Time 101

Jesus, do I really have to explain this?

You advance your clock by an hour DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS.

DST is the *change* from your standard timezone. Otherwise you wouldn't touch the clocks all year. There's no "winter time". That's just the end of DST.

cryptoz said:

lol, ok dude you keep advancing your clock an hour and leave it at that.

What do you mean "one part"? There's only one part to DST.

"Daylight saving time (DST) or summer time is the practice of advancing clocks during summer months by one hour so that in the evening daylight is experienced an hour longer, while sacrificing normal sunrise times."

not sure what you mean "keep it all year" but I think it means you like one part but not the other so in the end your "meh"

Instead of changing the clocks, just change "normal" business hours back 1 hour and keep it there, so instead of 9-5, it's 8-4. One place I worked I had the hours of 7-3 and I loved it. I got off work and had plenty of daylight to get things done.

The Dukes of Stratosphear - 25 O'Clock

Man. I've had this song forever, labelled as a They Might Be Giants song. I got it from the age of mistitled Napster mp3's.

Edit: Oops -
"On the tribute album A Testimonial Dinner: The Songs of XTC, American alternative rock band They Might Be Giants contributed a cover version of "25 O'Clock"."

Arrogant ranting?? That hurt.
anyway... if you just google his dad, Muhammad Muhammad, I'm sure you will see he has a political agenda , ie : Islam acceptance.
Do you expect the whole thinking world to believe that the son of a Muslim activist whose whole agenda is to accept Islam , built a suitcase clock and took it to school and ignored his teachers advice (4 times)to get rid of it AND refused to explain to the authorities why he had done so. Do you expect us to believe this bullshit story?

I'm sorry, I don't know what to tell you. I asked for some further information about your other message, and got arrogant ranting in return. I do have access to the news. I'm especially interested in what you said about the dad and how he is supposed to figure into things.

My guess is it at least says his intentions were NOT to show off the engineering he had done by creating a clock...since he didn't create a clock.
If he wasn't proud of his engineering skills and showing them off (which he can't possibly have been doing if he just took the case off a clock, right?), what are we left with?
Again, I'll say I hope all the offers he's received dry up as/if it becomes evident what actually happened. It's certainly turning out different from the way the story was portrayed in the beginning, and daily is looking more like an intentional baiting incident rather than an instance of negative profiling.

It seemed to be made clear quite quickly that the clock parts were largely if not entirely stock, and from the look of it I would agree with that. That is mostly what's being seized on right now. I don't know what that means about his intentions, and really, from the guessing and assumptions one way or another, it does not seem that anyone else does either. I guess we'll find out.

Was he circuit bending? Was he simply putting an old clock in a new case? Did he fix it? Was he trying to provoke a reaction? Time will tell. I'll leave the speculation alone, because it's getting pretty ugly.

it is interesting to see how this is playing out.this poor kid is getting used to promote narratives for people who really do not care about this kid,and it appears..he may not even have invented anything.
https://youtu.be/CEmSwJTqpgY

he probably just did this to impress his teacher and..wow..did things get out of hand fast.

on the one hand you have an authoritarian state who is petrified of brown people pissing themselves, and on the other you have people using this for political expediency to further a narrative.

and all ahmed wanted to do was impress his engineering teacher.(my assumption)
