The helicopter was hovering at about 25 feet above them when pyrotechnic explosions damaged it and caused it to crash on top of them, killing all three instantly.[3] Morrow and Le were both decapitated and mauled by the helicopter's top rotor blades, and Chen was crushed to death by the helicopter's skid.

Passer-by Pushes Suicidal Man From Bridge (no one dies)

BEIJING (May 23) - Chen Fuchao, a man heavily in debt, had been contemplating suicide on a bridge in southern China for hours when a passer-by came up, shook his hand — and pushed him off the ledge.

Chen fell 26 feet onto a partially inflated emergency air cushion laid out by authorities and survived, suffering spine and elbow injuries, the official Xinhua News Agency said Saturday.

The passer-by, 66-year-old Lai Jiansheng, had been fed up with what he called Chen's "selfish activity," Xinhua said.

Traffic around the Haizhu bridge in the city of Guangzhou had been backed up for five hours and police had cordoned off the area.

"I pushed him off because jumpers like Chen are very selfish. Their action violates a lot of public interest," Lai was quoted as saying by Xinhua. "They do not really dare to kill themselves. Instead, they just want to raise the relevant government authorities' attention to their appeals."

Xinhua said Lai was "taken away by police" but did not elaborate.

A police officer who answered the telephone Saturday at a station close to the bridge confirmed the incident and said it was under investigation. He refused to give any other details and hung up.

According to Xinhua, Chen wanted to kill himself because he had accrued $290,000 in debt from a failed construction project.

On Thursday, he made his way to the Haizhu bridge, where 11 other people have tried to take their lives since April.

Lai volunteered to talk Chen down but was turned away by police, Xinhua said. Lai then broke through the cordon, climbed to where Chen sat, greeted him with a handshake, then pushed.

Photos in the Beijing Morning Post showed Lai, shoeless and in a T-shirt, saluting after Chen fell.

The paper said Lai was released on bail Friday but did not give any details. It said he had been on medication for "a mental illness" for decades and had been on his way to a hospital for his pills.

Chen was recovering in the hospital, Xinhua said.

Former POW Says McCain Is "Not Cut Out To Be President"

Trancecoach says...

Dr. Butler was shot down over North Vietnam in April, 1965 and was brought to the Hanoi Hilton prison, two and a half years prior to McCain's arrival. He spent eight years in captivity. Butler is critical of McCain's habitual use of his P.O.W. story to advance his presidential campaign. "John has allowed I think the media to make him out to be the P.O.W., the hero, and in fact there were over 600 just like him who performed just as well." Echoing a similar assertion from General Wesley Clark two months ago, Butler continues, "I think I can say with authority that the Prisoner Of War experience is not a good prerequisite for President of the United States."

Having lived across the hall from John McCain at the U.S. Naval Academy prior to combat, Butler was a close witness to McCain's famously volatile temperament. "He was very sensitive and touchy and just easy to anger," says Dr. Butler. "John McCain is not somebody I would like to see with his finger near the red button." Butler continues, "John McCain's temperament makes it clear that he is not cut out to be President of the United States."

Butler points to the health risks faced by former Prisoners Of War as another cause for concern about a McCain presidency - a concern publicly heightened in recent days by McCain's selection of a political novice as a running mate. "The data show that the Prisoner Of War group are dying at an earlier age and that we suffer lots of residual things that non-P.O.W. group really doesn't have to deal with. And it's imperative that we have someone who is healthy and can stand the rigors of that job."

Other military veterans agree with Butler's criticism of McCain's exploitation of his P.O.W. story. Writes Brandon Friedman, a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan and author of 'The War I Always Wanted': "To see McCain resort to playing the POW card when answering legitimate questions, in my mind, cheapens that experience. And by cheapening his own experience in war, he degrades all of our experiences in war. He turns the horrific incidents we've all seen, touched, smelled, and felt into a lame excuse to earn political points. And it dishonors us all."

From YT: We are sure this video will draw an onslaught of right-wing attacks, but we bring it to you because it is our job to continue to convey the truth together and give these issues national attention. As Dr. Butler has said, McCain does not have the temperament to have his finger near the red button. Get this video to everyone you know—friends, family members, coworkers, and especially those who don't share your political views. The video is designed to reach them. Get it on your social networking sites like Digg. And get it to every blog, newspaper, and TV station that has ever overplayed McCain's POW story. It is time to fight back with truth!

The mainstream press has already begun to call out McCain for overusing his POW story. And it's cut across all political persuasions. * "Whether he's deflecting criticism over his health-care plan or mocking a tribute to the Woodstock music festival, Senator John McCain has a trump card: the Hanoi Hilton. — Edwin Chen, Bloomberg * "Noun, Verb, POW" — Andrew Sullivan, The Atlantic Monthly * "The McCain campaign's constant invocation of the candidate's POW past is weird bordering on irrational..." — Ana Marie Cox, TIME * "I think they are going to it way too many times." — Howard Fineman, Newsweek

Remember how Joe Biden got the press to refer to Rudy Giuliani as "A noun, a verb, and 9/11"? Well, let's actually take Andrew Sullivan's lead here and get the media to boil McCain down to a similar phrase: "A noun, a verb, and POW." Considering how often the McCain campaign invokes his POW story, isn't that what they're already doing?

First video on Youtube EVER!!!

Surprise! There's a Third YouTube Co-Founder

Before there was YouTube, there was ... a dating site called Tune In Hook Up?! Yes, that was the first version of YouTube that completely failed (Source: article by Jim Hopkins at USA Today, from where I shamelessly, um, co-opted the heading).

The YouTube we all know and love got started when former Paypal employees Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim wanted to share some videos from a dinner party only to realize that the video clip was too huge for email. Posting the video online wasn't easy either - since video websites back then accept some but not all video clip formats.

So the trio went to create YouTube in 2005 - and a little over a year later, the website streamed 100 million videos per day and got 70,000 videos uploaded per day (roughly 1 per second). It was the fastest growing website in the history of the Internet. It was estimated that in 2007, YouTube consumed as much bandwidth as the entire Internet in 2000!

Hurley and Chen sold the company to Google for a cool $1.65 billion ... so what happened to Jawed? He left active role at the company to be a graduate student in computer science before it was sold (but he didn't leave empty handed - Jawed got about $64 million in stocks when YouTube was acquired by Google).

Oh, and of course: the first video clip on YouTube was uploaded at 8:27 pm on Saturday April 23rd, 2005. It was of Jawed himself (shot by Yakov Lapitsky) at the San Diego Zoo.

Can a sex scandal still ruin a star's career?

HaricotVert says...

For those that don't know who Edison Chen is, we can create a fictional Western scenario of equivalent magnitude:

Justin Timberlake takes in his computer to have it repaired. The people repairing it start snooping around and find 1300 compromising photos of him with 7 female celebrities performing various sexual acts. These celebrities include:

Jennifer Garner
Jessica Alba
Kristin Kreuk
Hillary Duff
Lindsay Lohan
Keira Knightley
Natalie Portman

As such, all of the celebrities are dropped from practically all of their current and/or scheduled endorsements, movies, concerts, and divorced/separated from their current significant other/husband/fiancee.

That's pretty much what happened in Hong Kong.

The CRAZIEST low pass ever by a HELICOPTER

supersparky says...

I think Vic Marrow, Myca Dinh Le, and Renee Shin-Yi Chen would take issue with the title "The CRAZIEST low pass ever by a HELICOPTER" and say "No, a crazy low pass by a helicopter, but not THE craziest" Oh, wait, they're dead now because of being involved with THE craziest low pass ever by a helicopter.

Maneuvers like this don't express skill. They just show how stupid some people will go to impress people.

Chen style, dunno if I would call it "Shaolin" per se. Whenever I think of tai chi, I think more of old men in the park than of traditional uniforms and exhibitions.

Bruce Lee Interview, his opinion of kung-fu

NordlichReiter says...

He is fast, but i wonder if his speed would hit with force. In kung fu it is said that speed is every thing, it is not. Tai Chi does requite speed to throw an opponent, speed is not everything. Presence of mind, calmness of mind, and many more concentrative ideals are needed to practice and use Martial Arts.

I would argue that Kung Fu (kung fu meaning great skill or great art, or even great work) is not the best martial art, but coupled with grappling and boxing skills it would be great. There is no one martial artist who does not know how to adapt other styles to his skills. Kung Fu by meaning is not an style, there are so many styles, Chen Tai Chi, Wu Tai Chi, Mok Gar, Shaolin, Wushu, Wing Chun, Hsing I Chaun, Ba Kua (ba Qua). When kung fu is mentioned it usually means Chinese Martial Arts and only chinese martial arts, but with the true meaning of the words Great Skill (Kung Fu) it encompaces all things.

"In knowing one thing, Know all things."
Myomato Mushashi -Book of Five Rings

I prize any video with martial arts in it, because it gives me a chance to see different forms!
