I HATE PENNIES!!!! (Also Nickels.)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

You know you are spoiled when this is at the top of your list of concerns. As a fellow spoiled American, I completely agree. While we are on the subject of pocket change woes, I'd also love to see taxes and surcharges included on the price tag - so much time is wasted while cashiers and customers count out change. Instead of charging me 2.98 or 3.01, just make it an even $3 and be done with it.

Zero Punctuation: Red Dead Redemption

This sounds exactly like the kind of game that I hate playing: Shallow repetitive quests, bad story, time consuming. Red Dead is kind of like the anti-Portal.

Bad story? Did you get that from when he said the game was beautifully written? And I'd venture that almost no one who buys a $60 game wants it to last only 5 hours, as portal did. It's definitely not a casual or budget game. As for the MMOish quests, as he mentioned they're all optional.

I think you've completely misjudged something there - i'm willing to bet the majority of people who played portal would in retrospect pay $60 to have played portal. The fact that valve gave it away as a freebie as part of the orange box is one of the most amazing gifts to gaming.

The length of a game is irrelevant to me, if they had spread portal out over 30 hours and charged me for it i would have thought it was crap. Some of the best games i've ever played have been indie games costing a fraction of normal games, lasting a fraction of the duration too, but Braid was probably one of my favourite recent games since portal.

More often than not i'm disappointed by big titles. The only ones to never have let me down so far IS valve. Bioshock was a really great and fun game, i loved it, but if you said i could only play one and offered me bioshock or portal, i'd choose portal and give you $60 and a thank you.

The gaming market obviously goes in the direction that people like best. Whatever sells, sells. But i cannot get my head around people like you who think that the most important thing is that they give you 60 hours of gaming, WHATEVER the quality of that gaming is.

If a game lasted 30 minutes but it blew me away like no other game before, that'd be a good game. Hypothetically of course, because it's unlikely to be able to do that in 30 mins, but you get my point.

Lol if this happened to Me the Cops would have charged Me with animal cruelty. The end is funny as hell though. The same dog tries for the tire. I wonder if the Owner trained them to go for cars with lights on top

I'm glad they bailed out Wall Street, because otherwise WaMu wouldn't have gone under and Chase would've never acquired them and they'd never change my checking account to charge me $10/month service fees. Oh wait.

"Why Bank Of America Fired Me"

A friend told me this story a few months back. To the best of my recollection this is how it went.
Fri - He had an account balance of $100+
Fri - ATM deposit of a payroll check for $1200+.
Sat - 3 separate transaction all between $10-$25. Paid with his debit card.
Sat - 4th transaction was $150+. Also paid with debit card.
After receiving his monthly bank statement he noticed he was charged $25 overdraft fees for each of the above transactions. With a phone call and a visit to his bank he found out how they processed his transactions. Debits first, largest to smallest and then credits.
1. Original balance of $100+
2. $150+ (Above balance was applied to this debit leaving his balance at -$50ish (charged $25 overdraft fee)
3-5. $10-$25 (3 separate $25 overdraft charges)
6. Payroll check credited to his account.
He was told new banking rules allowed them to now process transactions this way. They did however refund his overdraft charges. Tell me that's not bullshit. I fucking hate banks.

Oh yes... my bank has tried pulling crap like this, and I believe there was/is a class action lawsuit against them for similar dishonest practices. I've unfortunately been with my particular shitty ass bank for over 10 yrs, and they've tried to slip in monthly checking charges under my nose, along with an annual credit card fee for a card that is not supposed to have any fees whatsoever as long as I use it a least once a year, and they have REALLY pissed me off when they tried to charge me for some bullshit "credit protection plan" that I never signed up for, and I had to yell at them to take those charges off, which they did. Don't even get me started on the BoA credit card I once had. I think I told the story on VS somewhere... I ripped them a new one when they tried to jack my rate up from zero percent to 29.9 because my mailed payment was somehow "lost." I'd never cursed over the phone so much, EVAR. Ah, good times. Dump your bank for a credit union!

If you think companies don't have power over your life or affect the quality of your life, you are not paying attention.

Please elaborate. I do not see how any company can possibly effect the quality of my life currently because I'm not in debt to them. They can't take my possessions. They can't charge me fees. They can't take my money. They can't take my car or my home. They can't force me to alter how I live or act. I'm not in a position where I have allowed myself to be vulnerable to such things.

Are you talking about the financial collapse? I've come through it totally uneffected. No brag. Just fact. I was smart. I didn't borrow money I didn't need. I didn't engage in risky investments. I didn't flip properties, buy cars I couldn't afford, or anything else. Because I played it smart, the crisis has gone by and it hasn't touched me.

I've always thought people should have at least one job in some kind of service industry, just to help them realize they shouldn't be pricks to these people when they grow up. But yeah, I don't really get the anti-tip sentiment as well; I understand the cultural differences between countries and wages, but people should respect whatever culture they are visiting, not impose their values (or tipping preferences) on the host country.

My first job was as a bus boy/dishwasher at a Western Steer restaurant in North Carolina. I hated it. I, too, tip at least 20% and typically more depending on what I order. It figures the ones everyone else would want to label as heartless libertarians would be the ones who tip the greatest.

I'm not sure why everyone else on that post hates tipping waitresses so much.

In reply to this comment by imstellar28:
My first job was as a bus boy/dishwasher, and the waitresses I worked with made $2.13 an hour - three dollars less than minimum wage at the time. Waitresses don't just keep their tips...they have to "tip out" other people like the bus boy, etc. So as a bus boy, sometimes I would bring home $50 a night in tips from what the waitresses would give me - outside of my regular wages which were above minimum wage.

To this day, as a rule I tip 25-30% on all bills, usually with a minimum of 20%. If the person gives really lousy service - aka - charges me for extra bread etc. I subtract that out of the tip sometimes; otherwise I always tip at least 20% even if they are mediocre. For really good service (especially on low-priced bills) sometimes I'll tip upwards of 50%.

Worst tip I ever gave was -$1.00 yes I actually subtracted money from the bill and signed it on a credit card. The restaurant had a deal "$5 pitchers for domestic drafts" and I had ordered Yuengling...ended up being charged like $9.50 a pitcher when there was a sign at the very bar "Yuengling...America's oldest brewery"

It should be noted that a lot of times people penalize the waitress for problems with the cook. If the food is bad, or wrong, or late - that could be the cook's fault; many times it has nothing to do with the waitress. And if its busy, and/or the restaurant is under-staffed, how is that her fault and why should she be penalized? If it takes one hour to get your food, eat somewhere else don't be a dick to the waitress.

Ron Paul "No One Has A Right To Medical Care"

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Ahh, Ron Paul, so many people think you're some kind of god... and yet you spew forth shit like this.
This bizarre notion that people who get health care are somehow depriving others of property or wealth is such a weird concept. This thing of 'What I make I own, f ck off everyone else' is SUCH a selfish enclosed view of the world popularized by those who have already made it, or those that are still under the dissolution that they can become rich if they just 'work hard enough'
To try to equate : Government that provides basic 'rights' like health care, education, basic essentials with an 'authoritarian unconcerned about the rights of the individual'. WHAT? What utter bullshit. Really... You're saying it's someone's RIGHT to die because they can't afford to buy healthcare as compared to being able to live. I would say it's a government that CARES about the individual's rights to provide these basic services.
Public provided healthcare FUCKING WORKS you dipshit. There are PLENTY of countries (mine included) that show this. PLENTY. How the F CK do people like Ron here just put on blinkers? How do they NOT SEE that it's a GOOD THING to not have to worry about cost if you or a loved one has to have life saving care? Why should it be even on the agenda for a necessary procedure? Elective... sure, pay through the bum... if you want a pair of big tits, go right ahead and pay that out of your own pocket. But to have heart surgery to prevent you from dying, you shouldn't only be able to get that if you, or your family have amassed enough wealth to cover the expense.
Government should get out of the way? Oh Fucking please... yeah, because private industry does the best job at providing healthcare. What a steaming load of shit. Healthcare should be about making sick people better and keeping healthy people healthy, it SHOULD NOT be about making profit. And that's what the private industry does. Somehow giving private industry FREE REIGN on healthcare is going to suddenly make it all cheap and quality? Buuuuuulllll shiiiit.
Bureaucrats shouldn't be allowed to get between doctor/patient relationship... um, what about the current private healthcare system you have at the moment which makes the provider STOP before providing care to QUESTION the bureaucrats at the insurance company as to whether you're covered for a given procedure... THAT is insane. Here I walk into the hospital, get the care for me or my child, and walk out. No one asks if I can afford it, no one charges me anything, I just get the care, and I go home...
WHAT? Is he seriously suggesting that LICENSING of medical practitioners be abolished? And is he actually trying to say that homeopathy be treated like real medicine? FUCK me he is more of a fucking tool than I ever thought. He has no idea what he is talking about. To say that there is room for other treatments other than just purely medicinal is ok, but you can't just let everything in. You can say that someone swaying a stone over your stomach to cure your ills should be covered, because there is nothing to ever say that it works... kinda like homeopathy.
I love seeing stuff like this, this is a 5 minute segment that I can always point to when anyone tries to say that Ron Paul is some soothsayer. I can point at this and say, "Nope, he doesn't know what he's talking about, he is a right wing, me me mine type of personality who believes EVERYTHING is solved through competition somehow". "Oh, and he thinks that homeopathy is real medicine... how cute"

I upvote, because I want more people to find out what a fool he really is and to stop treating him like some kind of capitalistic messiah

McDonald's (I'll Have One of Everything)

Sagemind says...

I hate french fries...
I always only order the burger - they always want to upsell me - EVERTIME.
A few times they didn't even ask, they just did it.
Which of course pisses me off, cause then they try to charge me.
Most of the time I don't even notice they charged me because I order for the whole family - using Interac

at the end when they are bringin' all the fries (always at the end), I start counting and they always have too many.

Then I have to begin the process of trying to get my money back (interac-ly) - what a nightmare.

In the end, they always let me keep the fries, no charge.
BUT I DON't WANT THE - THAT's WHY I DIDN'T ORDER THEM!!!!

OK, Vent finished!
thnx

Um, if you charge me $45 for a serving of something that's smaller than half my hand, then yes, you're pretentious.
