TDS: Minimum wage hike and the Pope denouncing Trickle Down

enoch says...

@Shepppard
ah...my young friend.
come over by the fire, your buddy enoch has some things to speak to you about.
are you comfy?
need a drink? beer? coffee?

then let us begin.

1.why do YOU care what another makes an hour?is it YOUR business?

but i understand the basic gist of your point:unskilled labor.

ok.thats a fair point.
but why is 15$ an hr too high?
what arbitrary scale are you comparing their hourly worth to?
walmart workers?

here is a facts that may give you some perspective:
a.if we take the minimum wage from 1978 and factor in inflation and worker productivity todays minimum should average 22$ an hour (yes...you read that right).
b.the workers in these unskilled jobs are in the high percentages in goverment subsidies.to the tune of 7 BILLION a year.so basically we ALL are subsidizing mcdonalds and walmart to pay their workers like shit.

so are you still against them getting a living wage? when you and i are subsidizing their income. the companies they work for get to pocket those profits, you and i get to help pay for their housing and food stamps.

walmart even helps ttheir employees sign up for food stamps! now isnt that adorable.

dont you think it a better idea that these companies pay their help at least enough where they dont need government susbizies? you know.like actually PAY them and not force us to?

2.if these corporations paid a minimum of 15$ an hr the projected hike in product prices will be......./drum roll.....
...........15 cents per item.........

3.how come it appears to be taboo to point to a CEO of a company who is making billions in bonuses while his/her workers are having to receive food stamps?
when did obscene gluttony and greed become something cool? even praiseworthy? while ridiculing those trying to survive and demanding a little bit of dignity as something to be chastised and cajoled for even having the impertinence to ask for a living wage.

the cognitive dissonance on display is on an epic scale.

who do YOU think you have more in common with?
the dude working at your local burger king?
or jamie dimon?

and dont even get me started on that condescending argument "get an education to get a better job".

i have been seeing many posts of late that reflect the very same flavor of yours @Shepppard and the one thing they all have in common is this judgemental value system that they just pulled out of their ass but in reality was given to them by the very people fucking them, and their children in the ass.

there will come a day when these people will realize they are slaves.
debt slaves.
wage slaves.
and while they were bickering the banksters and the corporate elite cleaned their clock.....
and they didnt notice until it was too late.

those elite fuckers.
they have a small club and you aint in it.
they dont like you.
they will never like you.
me?
im on your side man.

Alternative To Obamacare

Gluttons Before Punishment

artician says...

I was introduced to a government website in 2001 or so. The state of Texas made public all of it's executions along with the last-meals requested by each one.
80%-90% of them looked like the last one, and many many of them beat that easily. A lot of inmates requested meals that, even if you had a stomach the size of... ME, and you weight 500+ lbs, I could not see any human eating.
I learned later from a source "in the know" that most of the meals were (if at all) delivered in offensive ways, or were simply, drastically, sub-par to the original request (a Burger King meal instead of a McDonals, or 1 out of 12 requested items delivered at the whim of whoever did the food-run at the time).
Anyway, I was less surprised by this video than the state-reports. I wish I could still find the website today but I think the state took it down. Oh well.

Man of Steel - Official Nokia Exclusive Trailer

ChaosEngine says...

Yep, I've gone from "meh, superman" to "hey this actually looks cool".

But honestly, the marketing side is really starting to grate. I want to watch a friggin movie. I am NOT going to eat Burger Kings shitty food or buy a freakin' Nokia. And if Superman goes for a burger or talks about how awesome his phone is during the movie, I'm walking out of the theatre.

Wedding Fails Compilation 2012

A10anis jokingly says...

The reasons I DON'T do weddings:-
1. Compulsory jollity.
2. Crappy food prepared by the grooms brother who is a trainee burger king manager.
3. Crappy music from part time DJ, usually a relatives friend, who is cheap and an accountant.
4. Utter embarrassment at relatives attempting to dance. "c'mon granny" (see reason 1).
5. Utter embarrassment at relatives getting drunk and divulging family secrets.
6. Talking to complete strangers with whom you have nothing in common and, most likely, will never see until the next wedding, christening, or funeral.
7. Utter embarrassment at nervous/drunk best man, father of the bride, speeches.
8. The venue is too big for the number of people, cold, and like being in a barn.
9. Screaming kids running around whilst you're trying to pull a bridesmaid.
10. I'm a boring old fart.

Sarah Michelle Gellar: Burger King Commercial (1983 )

Yogi says...

>> ^VoodooV:

I still maintain that SMG was the least attractive, and least talented of the whole Buffy bunch.
Hannigan, Caulfield, Trachtenberg, Benson, Carpenter. All hotter/better

You're an idiot if you think she was the least talented. She had actual Acting chops that Joss and others gave her a lot of credit for way after Buffy. You think Hannigan was great at playing dorky and delivering her lines in a hesitating manner? Or that Trachtenberg reached new heights of annoyingly whiney Teenager? No SMG played her role of Lion Hearted Hero (which is really hard to play without being completely tiresome) to absolute perfection. I was annoyed with her at the right times, and right behind her at the right times. She's good, you just don't know dick about acting.

Nothing beats Caulfield though.

Aaron's Last Wish - A $500 Tip For Pizza

braschlosan says...

Tipping is technically optional (some places add it for large groups). Why don't you move to Australia where tipping isn't practiced? What you fail to realize is that some people make BELOW minimum wage and are expected to make up the difference in tips. I once had a job that payed 4$ under minimum wage legally.
>> ^Fade:

I think tipping is such bullshit. I don't give a fuck what you earn. if your job doesn't pay you enough that you have to effectively rely on charity then get another fucking job. Nobody tips the mcdonalds or burger king staff.

Why the hell should I have to pay over the odds for what was already a grossly overpriced meal? I don't earn a huge amount myself and the cultural pressure to tip makes me bloody angry. If anything a tip should be for exceptional service. A flat rate on top just means your prices are higher. Why not raise your prices and pay your fucking staff a decent wage?

That's cute. They work nowhere near as hard as a waitress or bartender. Fairly obvious that you're a disgruntled worker at Burger King who's mad about their situation. Thank you, come again...

Agree about raising prices and paying staff a decent wage. However, don't blame the server, blame the system. Minimum wage in Kentucky (Burger King) is $7.25. Minimum Wage for TIPPED staff is $2.13.

I'm not an American so I only presume I'm reading that right. So McDonalds staff might work as hard (or harder), but it's not for just as little.
