Bill Nye: Creationism Is Not Appropriate For Children

qfan says...

A common condescending view many evolutionists seem to be taking over creationists these days. I guess my first question to Bill would be, who are you to tell people how to raise their children, if what they are doing is fine by the law? The second question would be, do you have any proof that believing in creation always leads people not to think innovatively?

Wernher von Braun was a Biblical creationist and one of the original rocket scientists, even working [edit: chief architect] on the Saturn V which took the recently deceased Neil Armstrong to the moon. A single example and there are many others.

Seems like he might not be abiding by the empirical method.

Death / Science Neil Armstrong
Posted by Paul Constant on Sat, Aug 25, 2012 at 12:14 PM

NBC is reporting that the first man to walk on the moon has died at age 82. He had heart surgery earlier this month.

Between this news and Sally Ride's death last month, it certainly feels as though we're passing from one generation of space exploration to another.

Lance Armstrong might be able to make it down the block.

This could be like a Rube Goldberg of grocery shopping.

"Need bread from corner store. Must build human powered helicopter to get there."

Guild Wars 2 - What A Wonderful World

berticus says...

If our characters still exist in the next BWE, you should look out for me and @my15minutes. One of my character's names is "General Discomfort" and his is "Phaedrus Silverwood". Come hit things with us!

I believe @JiggaJonson might also be a player?? Hell, we should probably just have a videosift guild, now that we can be members of multiple guilds!

[quoting got all messed up.. sorry]

That is Kenny G's "What a wonderful world". I feel Rick Rolled in the most horrible way.

Fixed tags and description... I thought the sax sounded out of place from what I remembered of the song, but it was clearly Louis Armstrong's voice so I went with it.

>> ^berticus:
i just played almost non-stop all weekend for the 2nd beta weekend event. the game is just incredible.

I played far more this weekend than I did last BWE... and thanks to work, I barely played the stress test at all. But yes, the game is amazing. My blog has nearly become a "let's praise GW2" blog. I really think they should stop with the gameplay beta tests and move to more optimization test, especially GPU optimization. One or two of those tests and I think they could be ready to announce a release date... The one test every 4 to 5 weeks isn't easy...

Oh man, I just saw an upskirt and I was not prepared.

LOL. I had to re-watch the video again a couple times to see what you were talking about then I caught it... at least she had long pants on under her skirt, though they were semi-flesh colored. I made a "Let's Play" video myself and was a good 4 minutes in before I noticed my character had been flashing her panties while running up ramps or stairs, or if I moved the camera down to look up at the higher areas of Divinities Reach... she changed from her town clothes to her armor set then.

I'm gonna bet Billie Joe Armstrong was an English teacher for kids overseas of the most awesome kind.

But lost his teacher edge with "Now go fucking hang out with your fuckin' friends out there."

Mitchell and Webb - What If The Germans Won The War?

jmzero says...

This is peep show, not mitchell and webb. Unless they wrote a bit for a mitchell and webb episode. But they don't write peep show iirc.

I was curious about this, as I'd always assumed Peep Show was written by Mitchell (it just smelled like his writing I guess). Wikipedia says:

The television programme is written by Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, with additional material by Mitchell and Webb themselves, amongst others

Intelligent Penn State Student Surrounded by Idiots

residue says...

@chilaxe I understand your sentiment, but it's just a form of entertainment. You could make the same argument about cinema. Professional sports also bring in a tremendous amount of revenue for the state. It's up to the consumer to decide if their money is worth attendance or not and at that level it's no different than choosing to buy a movie ticket or pay for cable TV.

I'm not defending rabid fans at all, but sport in general as a means of entertainment, particularly if you're involved, isn't any worse than other forms of entertainment. What would you propose as an alternative that wouldn't carry the same generalization of "a more intellectual venture?" We can't spend ALL our time thinking.. How is watching cat or moose videos on videosift a better use of time than watching, or better yet engaging, in some form of sport?

I'm just playing devil's advocate over here, your caveman example is amusing, but why are you assuming that just because you like one team more than another you're unintelligent? I think Chris Sharma (http://youtu.be/ulepAmX2tTw) is incredible and so if I were to watch him in a competition, I want him to do well. I don't see what's wrong with being inspired by an athlete and wanting them to succeed. Watching an athlete overcome adversity like Lance Armstrong can be inspiring too.
