A Brief History of Piracy

chop lifter

newtboy says...

Yep, Lode Runner is another game I had on the apple2.
Yeah, far too much of my childhood was spent in arcades so I have seen and played it, but I preferred scramble for side scrolling helicopter-like games, so chop lifter didn't eat too much of my money.
I think a friend also had the colecovision port that I've played.

Yeah, those jets were hard and annoying. I didn't get far. Didn't those hostages remind you of Lode Runner? Did you play the arcade port? That was cool.

WOW! Me too! This was one of the better games I had on my brother's old apple2+ (heavily modified). It didn't play that smoothly on it, and I also never got far. Maybe level 3? I recall that jet killing me as I tried to land full of passengers over and over and over and over....
Whoever's playing in the vid sure knows how to do it.
Oddly, I never got this for my original sega.

the last starfighter updated trailer

RFlagg says...

I'm surprised there hasn't been an updated/reboot of the movie.

While you probably wouldn't use an arcade machine, an online PC game that uses a HOTAS... and perhaps Oculus Rift could be the testing ground. Say something like Elite: Dangerous or Star Citizen. You don't have the kid get into a stranger's car, did Alex never learn "stranger danger" lol. It could actually build into a franchise if you handle it properly...

Aussies Win 2X Jackpot At Japanese Slot Machine

speechless says...

You can't leave with the coins either (legally). You basically have three options. Play until you bust, give the coins away to other players, or check them in with the arcade and they'll be available to you when you visit again (but they charge a "storage fee" for that).

My thoughts on both counts.
I wonder if there's an ebay market for the tokens. Then they could get something out of them.

They won exactly zero money, unfortunately. The only thing those coins are good for is more play in the arcade. They can't be traded in for prizes or anything of value, or even any "side" payouts like with pachinko.
They had fun though, and that's what the arcade is about!

This is why I have mame with all the arcades downloaded..I love to just browse through games by release date and experience the changes in audio and video from the beginning to modern day 2d.

A walk inside one of the surviving pinball factories

newtboy says...

I did too, so I bought a 'Black Knight' years back, one of the first talking pinball games.
It's also a great reason for a trip to Portland, there's an arcade there with room after room of 80's video games and pinballs.
