Did you read it?

Winfrey said the vast majority of the absentee voting precincts in the city were less than three ballots off, plus or minus.
Of 503 absentee voting precincts in the city, there were 131 that were off by plus or minus one ballot without an explanation, according to information presented at the meeting. There were 85 off by two ballots without an explanation, 48 that were off by three, 26 off by four and 73 off by five ballots.

When it came to 503 Election Day voting precincts, 104 tallies were out of balance by at least one ballot, with the majority of them, 74, being off by plus or minus one, according to information presented at the Tuesday meeting.
A record 1.6 million people in Michigan voted by mail for the Aug. 4 primary, 2.5 million total.

So when the vast majority voted no reason absentee/vote by mail but those votes couldn't be counted until election day there were 1/3 as many issues with in person election day voting. Sounds like vote by mail was nearly as good despite it's workers having to work 20 hour days counting vs 8 for in person poll workers. The total number that were either an over or under count were .04%, not great, but not consequential.

President trump is raising concerns, yes, but not doing a thing to solve the problems h he's caused. His and his administration's actions have been blatantly harmful rather than helpful across the board, and he continues to insist he won't sign any funding bills for the election because he needs to suppress the vote as much as possibly among thinking people who believe the CDC is right and in person voting is a recipe for disaster or he's going to lose.

Also more mail in voting gone wrong in Detroit.

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2020/08/20/benson-asked-investigate-detroit-perfect-storm-voting-problems/5616629002/

Recorded ballot counts in 72% of Detroit's absentee voting precincts didn't match the number of ballots cast, spurring officials in Michigan's largest county to ask the state to investigate ahead of a pivotal presidential election.

Without an explanation from Detroit election workers for the mismatches, the Wayne County Board of Canvassers requested this week for Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's office to examine the "training and processes" used in Detroit's Aug. 4 primary, which one official described as a "perfect storm" of challenges. The board is charged with certifying election results.

In 46% of all Detroit's precincts — absentee and Election Day — vote counts were out of balance, according to information presented Tuesday to the Wayne County Board of Canvassers. Specifically, the number of ballots tracked in precinct poll books did not match the number of ballots counted.

The situation could amplify the spotlight on absentee ballots in Michigan ahead of an election for which record levels of mail-in voting are expected and President Donald Trump is already raising concerns about how votes will be handled.

Trump and Fox Struggle to Attack Sen. Kamala Harris

newtboy says...

You must be joking.
He may have more support among those still calling themselves Republicans, but there are insanely fewer of those today, #walkaway, and his approval among independents has tanked from it's low starting point, and among democrats it's non existent. Also, he's the incumbent, can't get none of that there reform when you're the incumbent, and that was his ONLY selling point. Also, you don't have Biden cheating the election process like Clinton, so fewer turning away from the Democrats.
All these anti Trump commercials are produced by Republicans, Bobby, not Democrats, not Russia, not China, Republicans. I've lost count of the number of anti Trump Republican groups they're popping up so fast.

Democrats fed up with Joe stuttering or flubbing words (but not concepts) will go with Trump, who lost his mental grip before 2016, and finger bangs his daughters, rapes women, cheats on every wife, has a child with his daughter, and has failed at every leadership metric?!? Wow. That will be a sight to see. If they do, we will get the president we deserve, and it will end this great experiment in democracy.

You know what you complain about ALL happened under Trump's leadership, not during Biden's. Same leadership in cities, the only change was Trump that made civility and law fall apart.
Covid is only a non issue to idiots who believe Trump over literally anyone else, no matter their credentials or evidence. Above 85 IQ people understand they live in the real world where 160000 are dead and likely 500000 permanently disabled.
>160000 dead, >5 times the rate of deaths and infections than the global average including third world nations, they aren't just elderly, they do include thousands of children dead and tens of thousands brain damaged. Republicans were prepared to shut down over Benghazzi, 4 deaths...but not over 160000, even knowing not shutting down will extend the pandemic, extend the shutdowns, extend the national isolation, extend the depression, and cost the U.S. trillions upon trillions more in excess costs and losses, all of which could have been avoided by shutting down two weeks earlier and mandating masks, but Trump didn't, so we are the worst effected nation on earth in nearly every way.

Why are you still getting information from the Don the con? He's steered you wrong at every single turn.

bobknight33 said:

OK

I'll say it.

Trump will win by a fucking landslide.

More supporters today than 2016. Democrats fed up with the far left of their party, not to mention Finger Banging JOE loosing his mental grip will push Trump to victory.

The fake news, BLM rioters, Democrat lead cities dumping on Blue lives, cutting funding. Crime spiking, looting, murder rates spiking will lead to total victory.

Covid is a non issue. People want to go tow work not be ordered by Democrat mayors, Governors to stay shut down.

Covid death rates are low % , except elderly, and not worth the economic damage to people, states, nation.

Failure

SFOGuy says...

The interesting question is: other than enraging the President from time to time, what is the Lincoln Project's goal? 85-90% of the Republican party is still behind Trump. I don't see them being swayed by Lincoln; Democrats already know what they are going to do in November--independents? Lincoln isn't doing mass TV buys---they just focus on markets where the President watches TV lol. So: bring to lay some claim to be conservatives who opposed the President to stake a role in the rebuilding of the Republican party after Trump? To claim a place at the table when Tucker Carlson becomes the 2024 Republican candidate?

What's their long-game goal?

Failure

newtboy says...

Based on?
Twisted Trump the Daughter Diddler is by far the worst "president" ever seen by any metric you want to choose. You can whine it might be worse with someone else, but no one with an IQ over 85 believes that....no matter how bad we think Clinton might have been.

Anyone who supports Pedo-Don is a willing facilitator of child rapists, and a willing dupe of a repeatedly convicted con man.

Trump's response ...'It's less dangerous than the flu, it will disappear by April, it's a hoax, no need for any action, don't wear an anti freedom mask because we're selling them to China and Russia, don't social distance, we have plenty of ventilators and ICU beds, just go back to work, it will never kill over 1000 Americans...10000 Americans....25000 Americans....50000 Americans...65000 Americans....80000 Americans....100000 Americans...125000 Americans, and now he says it won't kill over 160000 Americans, nothing to see here, perfect response, Clinton would have been worse.'

I defy you, Clinton COULD NOT be worse. She wouldn't have the house and Senate behind her every move, she wouldn't even start with her party in control of either. No matter what she tried to do, she would be blocked by the obstructionist party....so she couldn't have disbanded the international pandemic response teams, or the pandemic monitoring system named 'Predict', 2 moves that allowed a tiny outbreak in China to go unnoticed until it was a pandemic (and well after in the Whitehouse). She also wouldn't have ignored the well prepared pandemic response plan left by Obama and lied for months claiming it didn't exist.

*facepalm

Failure

Almost certainly, but that's likely true worldwide. People without symptoms usually don't get tested, and that's something like 85% of infected and infectious people.

I'm betting like the CDC says that the actual number of infections are FAR higher than actually reported. In Trumps deranged voice "We have the best testing bigly"... FFS, fire this guy or we are DOOMED...

Joe Biden response towards Tara Reade allegations

newtboy says...

People voted for Butigieg because he's intelligent, articulate, honest, thoughtful, tactful, smart, an honorable veteran, civic minded, faithful, patriotic, and a true leader.
Trumpublicans don't know a thing about any of those traits, they've had to forget about them in order to follow Trump.
The fact that he is openly gay was just a cherry on top, not a reason to vote for him but a Trumpian madness inducing bonus...like Obama being black. They aren't reasons for me to vote for them, but they are absolutely reasons your ilk never would....kind of like Trump being a repeatedly convicted con man, it's not why you voted for him but it's one inescapable reason people with IQs over 85 won't.

Tell me, what trait made you love Trump? He doesn't display a single positive trait Butigieg exemplified.

bobknight33 said:

Voting for a female for the sake of being a female is asinine.

It is the same for voting for mayor Pete just because he is gay.

Conservatives don't care what you are, its you leadership to put America first that matters.

I love all this stuff. I think she's brilliant.
I don't ever use this stuff, don't get me wrong. But there are more people than you think that is into all this stuff. They don't care that it's Psudo. Sex, Natural and just frame of mind. It's not available on Goop, they will buy it somewhere else. So why not make a few bucks. It's entertainment. It''s a growing sub-culture.

I can't take most of it seriously as if it's scientific, but let people who want this stuff be, and live in their own bubbles . live and let live. I'll bet 85% of the people know very well what they are getting is just novelty, but they are having fun, and enjoying their best lives .

Honest Government Ad | We're Fucked

newtboy says...

So, you're ignorant of the fact that most forests, approximately 60% in California, are national/federal forests under federal control, with only about 3% being state controlled? The rest are privately owned.
You're likely also ignorant of the fact that your messiah has cut the already wholly inadequate funding to manage them by around $2 billion per year nation wide, threatening to drop that to zero in California, all the while ignorantly claiming it's the state who is not managing it's responsibilities.
California, conversely, has budgeted >$2 billion to manage state run forest lands.
Requests to the national forestry department for better management of overgrown and unmanaged federal forests have been met with threats from Trump to remove all federal funding.

The nation's forest service is so poorly funded under Trump that they can't even afford a spokesperson to answer those accusations, there's just a recording saying there's no staff due to budget cuts.

So much for the promise to fix the nation's infrastructure.

Side note, Paradise Ca is in conservative Butte county....burned to nothing. ($16.5 billion and 85 deaths) That fire started on federal land.
Redding is in conservative Shasta county, badly damaged (>$21 billion with 8 deaths.) That fire also started on federal lands.
But keep blaming liberals, it's all you're good at. *facepalm

Multi-Agent Hide and Seek

Thanks for the link and the education, truly appreciated. I'm still stuck on "there has to be more to it" ... but I guess after 85 million games, the outcome is bound to be a winner. Same philosophy I have for the Leafs winning the Cup.

This isn't really true though and greatly understates how amazing this demo, and current AI actually is.

Saying the agents are obeying a set of human defined rules / freedoms / constraints and objective functions would lead one to imagine something more like video game AI.

Typically video game AI works on a set of weighted decisions and actions, where the weights, decisions and actions are defined by the developer; a more complex variation of:

if my health is low, move towards the health pack,
otherwise, move towards the opponent

In this demo, no such rules exist. It's not given any weights (health), rules (if health is low), nor any instructions (move towards health pack). I guess you could apply neural networks to traditional game AI to determine the weights for decision making (which are typically hard coded by the developer); but that would be far less interesting than what's actually happening here.

Instead, the agent is given a set of inputs, a set of available outputs, and a goal.

4 Inputs:
- Position of the agent itself
- Position and type (other agent, box, ramp) of objects within a limited forward facing conical view
- Position (but not type) of objects within a small radius around the agent
- Reward: Whether they are doing a good job or not

Note the agent is given no information about each type of object, or what they mean, or how they behave. You may as well call them A, B, C rather than agent, box, ramp.

3 Outputs:
- Move
- Grab
- Lock

Again, the agent knows nothing about what these mean, only that they can enable and disable each at any time. A good analogy is someone giving you a game controller for a game you've never played. The controller has a stick and two buttons and you figure out what they do by using them. It'd be accurate to call the outputs: stick, A, B rather than move, grab, lock.

Goal:
- Do a good job.

The goal is simply for the reward input to be maximised. A good analogy is saying 'good girl' or giving a treat to a dog that you are training when they do the right thing. It's up to the dog to figure out what it is that they're doing that's good.

The reward is entirely separate from the agent, and agent behaviour can be completely changed just by changing when the reward is given. The demo is about hide and seek, where the agents are rewarded for not being seen / seeing their opponent (and not leaving the play area). The agents also succeeded at other games, where the only difference to the agent was when the reward was given.

It isn't really different from physically building the same play space, dropping some rats in it, and rewarding them with cheese when they are hidden from their opponents - except rats are unlikely to figure out how to maximise their reward in such a 'complex' game.

Given this description of how the AI actually works, the fact they came up with complex strategies like blocking doors, ramp surfing, taking the ramp to stop their opponents from ramp surfing, and just the general cooperation with other agents, without any code describing any of those things - is pretty amazing.

You can find out more about how the agents were trained, and other exercises they performed here:

Could Earth's Heat Solve Our Energy Problems?

newtboy says...

Iceland uses this tech for 30% of their electricity and over 85% of their heating needs. It also heats public baths like the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa.
Unfortunately, East Oregon and Idaho where our best geothermal locations are are sparsely populated, so it's unlikely the U.S. will adopt it.
